Playoff Format

  • Of course it is way to early to be talking playoffs......and that is not what I am really doing here.

    I am talking Playoff format....

    7 teams in each Conference will make it.     So....4 Division winners and 3  Wildcards.  And extra WC this year.

    Only the #1 seed gets a playoff bye, instead of the Top 2 seeds.

    So, in the first round, the  Division winners  below the Top seed,   seeds  2, 3, 4   will have  home games against the WCs:

    So   2 vs.   7;

     3 vs. 6;

    and 4 vs.  5.

    After the first round, there will be 4 teams left.    The #1 seed will play the lowest seed, and then the other two will play

    So....now, unless you are the #1 seed,   any team will have to win 4 postseason games to win the Super Bowl.    The 2 #1 seeds will have to win just 3.

  • In this regard   since 1980,    176 teams have begun a season at 0-3.    And only 6  have made the playoffs in that time......or  3. 4 percent.   So, any of the teams that are  now 0-3.....and those are now:  Jets, Texans, Broncos, Giants, Vikings, Falcon......are pretty much toast.

    I don't know about an 0-2-1 team....like the Bengals and Eagles now.

    The Only teams to make the playoffs after going 0-3 to begin a season are:  2018 Texans, 1998 Bills, 1995 Lions, 1997 Chargers, 1982 Bucs, and 1981 Jets.

    This year, with an extra playoff team added, maybe it will be easier to go from 0-3 to playoffs.

  • Speaking of Playoffs.    Just FYI,  the Indians will play the NY Yankees in a best of 3 playoff series.  All games to be in Progressive Field in Cleveland.  Not sure why if the Browns could have some fans in attendance that the Indians could not as well for this.
