Burrows injury at OSU set him back in that competition

Is he going to be injury prone his whole career?   I don't know why, but he seems frail.

Many of us on this same forum were down on his prospects of Burrow staying healthy during the year (because of their line) and also because the Bengals decided that running the ball was optional this year.

He needs a blind side protector and a running game.  He should be fine.

Penei Sewell out of Oregon is the top rated OT....supposed to go Top 5.  OT seems their primary need.   He could be on their radar,  though, they being currently in the #5 slot could miss out.

Yep he’s a good one.  I think they need a coach too.

  • PIttsburgh's starter next year?

He’d have to grow up quickly.

Can you imagine his first Steeler win taking selfies with fans and missing a kneel down play?

They are already dealing with JuJu tik tok BEFORE the game.

  • Possible future teams for Haskins do not include PTG... They've gotten rid of problem children a helluva lot more talented that Haskins., e.g., Brown and Bell.... although Bell was as much a $$$ issue as anything.

Best problem kid teams are probably LV, NE and SEA... and pretty much in that order.

Of these LV would make the most sense, if Gruden/Mayock liked anything he saw of Haskins in going thru the draft process.

If they bring him in in a pure backup/grooming roll and deal either Carr or Mariotta in the off-season... maybe as early as the draft.

Denver maybe?  They need a QB.  Lions may be looking if they lose Stafford.

Need some clarification of Stafford's status.  Saw some indication he may be a FA, but not sure.

Maybe Tampa could be looking for a backup.  Maybe they could see something in Haskins which they did not see in  Winston.   They seem like similar kind of guys.

    Carolina?

Of course, some of these teams may also be looking at the current OSU guy for the draft.

I think he could fit well with a team that has an older established vet probably a year or two still away from needing to find a guy.

Atlanta...Detroit...Pitt...NE (once they find their new guy)

Haskins needs to sit...learn how to play at this level...and learn how to act outside of the playing field.

Only because of the personnel fit...    Colts.

  • Update...

Haskins cleared waivers... so at lest no one wanted him on his rookie deal.

    He's now an UFA.

Can you get anyone any cheaper than what they get on their rookie deal?

It was a fluke injury Gipper. Brady came back from an ACL- though it's been rumored Joe's injury was more extensive.

I get plenty of Bungle news 50 miles north of Paul Brown. Upgrading the OL is Job #1 for the Queen City Kitties to keep Burrow in one piece. Hate to say it, but from what I've seen Joe is the Real Deal. They do have Jonah Williams their former first round pick OT- but he's on IR- again.  Not out of the question they'd draft Sewell and slide Williams over to RT.

As far as a low round pick on a rookie deal, the answer is no. Then vet minimum comes into play.  It's around $500k with one year of experience. But our pal Marvin Hall is scheduled to make "Only" $195k.  🙂

Yup.... Haskins was due to be paid $4.25mm next year on his rookie deal.

One thing with OSU, as they switched from the QB running spread to a more passing based spread, is that they scheme to get great separation. Add on to the fact that their WRs all run 4.3s, and you're throwing to guys with yards of separation. That limits the need to make any real reads.

It was brought up with Tua too. "NFL Open" and "Bama Open" are two different things.

Well, I think that is a thing with every college QB.  Generally DBs in the NFL are going to be much better, and have much tighter coverage than college DBs.  It just depends on how well someone adjusts to that in the pros.  Haskins clearly has the skills.....he just has to develop the proper aptitude. He needs to mature, and get better at the mental game.

One thing though that  Ohio State QBs  do....or should have the advantage in, is that every day in practice they face the best college DBs that the college game produces.  OSU  currently has  8....that's 8  DBs active in the NFL that were taken in the first round of the draft.    They don't have that many first rounders in the league at all other positions combined:

1 QB  counting Haskins...though he is one day inactive!   1 RB  Zeke  2 OL,    and 3 DEs:   Heyward and the Bosas.

OSU non-DB first-rounders since 2010 -- Add DE Chase Young 2020, LB Darron Lee [jets] 2016, LB Ryan Shazier [steelers] 2014.

Of course those two LB's aren't active any more. And we could throw in 2009 Beanie Wells [Cards] who lasted all of 3 years before turf toe and achilles injuries retired him.  Beanie is, naturally, a morning talk radio host on 97.1 in my hometown of Columbus now.

2008 saw the ballad of DE Vernon Gholston, 2007 was dual WR's of Ted Ginn [Dolphins] and Anthony Gonzalez [Colts].  2006 was fun with 4 first-round non-DB OSU players: LB AJ Hawk [Packers], LB Bobby Carpenter [Cowboys], WR Santonio Holmes [Steelers], C Nick Mangold [Jets]

Talking about Haskins is disappointing - Watching people choose not to achieve their actual potential is sad. Or maybe that's just my optimism about humanity showing!  I'll have to holster that for some threads on this forum..
