Former Cleveland Browns head coach joins college football program
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens will join the coaching staff at the University of South Carolina this season.
Kitchens will serve as a senior football analyst for the Gamecocks.
In a release from the university, head coach Shane Beamer said, “I worked with Freddie Kitchens previously at Mississippi State and have known him for close to 20 years. He’s a fantastic coach with head coaching experience and coordinator experience. He’s a long-time NFL coach who will be a great asset and resource for our program and will help us in so many ways.”
Kitchens has coached in the NFL since 2006 with four different teams. He was most recently with the New York Giants, serving as a senior offensive assistant last season.
Kitchens was the head coach in Cleveland for one season. He led the Browns to a 6-10 overall record in 2019.

Maybe a good guy but thrust into a tough situation the Cleveland BROWNS in the midst of a coaching and quarterback changing nightmare......which is kind of in a limbo now.
Marty one of those good even great backup guys but maybe just not quite NFL head coaching material.
I remember him at Alabama the rather chunky quarterback under a coach and guy I've always liked Gene Stallings.
Hopefully happy in his new endeavor.
....Freddie Kitchens was a quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 1993 to 1998, during which time he threw for 4,668 passing yards and 30 touchdowns. In his three seasons as a starter, Alabama won the 1995 Citrus Bowl, and the 1997 Outback Bowl.[1]
At the time of his departure, he ranked third in the school's history in career passing attempts, fourth in career passing yards, and fifth in career completions.[2]
During his time at Alabama, Kitchens was given the nickname Thick by offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.
