CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey had a misdemeanor assault charge against him dropped in Texas after he completed a pretrial diversion program.

According to Harris County Court documents, Winfrey’s case was dismissed on June 9.

The 22-year-old Winfrey was arrested in April after he allegedly caused “bodily injury” during an argument with a woman he was dating.

Winfrey has had a turbulent tenure with Cleveland since the Browns drafted him in the fourth round in 2022 out of Oklahoma. He was disciplined by the team as a rookie last season on at least two occasions, and Winfrey acknowledged he needed to mature as a professional.

Last week, Winfrey and cornerback Greg Newsome II were robbed at gunpoint by six masked men in downtown Cleveland outside a nightclub. Neither player was hurt in the incident, which remains under investigation.

Winfrey remained inside the team’s facility last week for two days while the Browns practiced outdoors during minicamp. Coach Kevin Stefanski declined to say if Winfrey was being disciplined. He rejoined his teammates on the third day.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Winfrey is expected to be with the team at training camp next month. The Browns will practice the first week in West Virginia.

The Browns are hoping that Winfrey, who showed signs of being a productive player in 13 games last season, can be part of their defensive line rotation this season.

What about the other four knucleheads that got themselves robbed at three in the morning. Distractions all over the place, hope this isn't an indication on how the season will go.

OK..Now.... We're all guilty of assaulting our younger brothers & sisters 😉

@ballpeen or any member with any law background..

Like most ?.. I've never heard of *

upon "*completion of a pretrial conversion program*", according to court documents in Harris County, Texas. His next court date was dropped for July 11th.

Perrion Winfrey was arrested in Texas on a misdemeanor assault charge earlier this week for allegedly causing bodily harm to a woman he was dating.

According to Harris County court records, Winfrey was arrested at 7 p.m. Monday and charged with one count of assault. He was freed on $1,000 bond and told not to have contact with the complainant.

The official complaint said that Winfrey “unlawfully, intentionally and knowingly” caused bodily injury to the woman by grabbing and pulling her with his hand. Due to the relationship, the charge was classified as an “assault of a family member.”

    A) How does "a women he was dating". Turn into an "assault of a family member"?

Fiance's in Texas, considered as Family?

Good grief..Was he dating his Aunt/ or his niece ? 😮 Somethings not jiving on the complainant's side?.. Or... the written conclusion of the story?

He sure is unfortunately!  He's the Dumb Jock version of Good Will Hunting.  He needs a Therapist like the one Robin Williams played in the movie.

I am glad to hear it as well.  I don't know if I like the guy so much, but my liking him doesn't matter.  I think he can be a pretty good player, BUT, he has to grow up and quit being an egghead.  His actions have him in a position where he isn't a 100% lock to make the team.  In years past he was a 100% lock.  It's pretty rare, for any team to cut a fairly high draft choice after 1 year.  That could happen to the guy this year.

He doesn't need to give the staff an extra reason to drop him.  He is already in a position where the coaches are going to be debating "do we keep this guy or that guy".  He best do what Schwartz and his defensive line coach want him to do without constant "playground" distractions.

The line between "tough love" and "screw you" can be pretty thin.
