This is a 4 part mini series on HBO Max. It’s based on a DC comic series by the same name, but l’d never previously heard of the comic.

Interesting setting for the show, it’s a near future post apocalyptic setting where America has a Civil War, and one side owns New York and Philadelphia and presumably other states, and the other side owns New Jersey and and probably more, but for whatever reason neither side had the gumption to take the island of Manhattan, so it became a Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ.

Rosario Dawson plays the main character, Alma Ortega, and she’s a medic who was from Manhattan and tried to evacuate with her tween son eight years ago when the war happened, but she got separated from her son in the process so he got left behind.

She finally finds a way to get in to the DMZ only to discover that a couple people she knew back in the day are gunning to be the main warlords of the DMZ, and that causes some twists and turns in the series.

It’s only 4 episodes but it wasn’t a quick watch for me. It starts off a little slow but gets better as it goes, and then it’s over before you know it.

I give it a C. It was a neat concept for a show, and Dawson is a great choice for the role, but it’s mixed reviews on the supporting cast and the show dragged at times. It does have solid action scenes.
