I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about or where Matt Leinart comes into this conversation.

I was 16 when he was drafted, still playing high school ball.  These are insane ramblings and connected to nothing, you're welcome to those ramblings.

But if I see more of this ...

  • Bucky Irving is out for an extended period with a significant ankle injury. Fantasy players take note - unless they are playing me. lol

Can Baker Mayfield, also banged up, lead the Bucs to another win?

    https://www.totalprosports.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers-insider-injury-update-bucky-irving-not-looking-good/

"According to Greg Auman of Fox Sports, Bucky Irving had crutches and a walking boot on his left foot during Wednesday’s walkthrough practice. Auman notred the “focus” is on backup RBs Rachaad White and Sean Tucker for the Week 5 road tilt against the Seattle Seahawks."

"The Bucs are still without star wide receiver Mike Evans for multiple weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 against the New York Jets. All-Pro offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs (knee) and star wideout Chris Godwin (ankle) made their season debuts against Philly."

    "

There’s no replacing the talents of a borderline top-10 running back like Irving, but the Buccaneers are fortunate to have one of the league’s deepest RB rooms.

In his one season as Tampa’s full-time starting running back (2023), Rachaad White logged 990 rushing yards, 1,539 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns. Though Irving took over as the RB1 last year, White still had 1,006 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

As Tampa’s No. 3 running back last year, Sean Tucker was no slouch with 308 rushing yards, two touchdowns and 417 yards of offense. Tucker and White are more than capable of keeping the ground game going if Irving is out for an extended period."

  • At the final score. And you could probably look up Mayfield's nearly successful come back Drive. Of course that would take some of the glow off the Eagles victory, you still have Haslam Watson deepesta yada yada yada. You go girl.

The Bucs are now 0-4 in the last 2 years without Mike Evans.   Evans won a Super Bowl when he had a better QB.

This makes it sound like things were going good before that INT.

Baker missed big on his first 2 3rd down conversions that brought up old ghosts - checking into boundary throws and missing open receivers elsewhere to keep the chains moving.   I mentioned this very thing as far back at Nov 2021 here...  3rd line down.

Motion to quads and Philly was short a DB to this side.  Pitch and catch...

This is Godwin on a follow concept. Something I ripped Jaxson Dart for missing this past weekend. It's a high percentage throw...

    Screenshot_20251002_122656_NFL2.thumb.jpg.146c9110c9c7a1f0e7122d540a5a735d.jpg

This is a habit he's had since he has been in the league. Only he lacked the physical dominance of Mike Evans to turn these into catches this game.

Baker was leading the entire NFL in turnover worthy throws before playing Philly.    You saw the bomb to E double, the only *should* I saw this game was that *should* have been another INT.   But that's Baker in a nutshell.  He'll rip it and you'll live with the consequences, be it good or bad.   Sometimes it's great, other times he digs an early hole and fights to get out, or makes the hole even deeper.

This game actually *should* have been a blowout. But PHI built a lead and patiently sat on the ball.

3 of the next 4 games Baker has a favorable schedule defensively.   This Saturday against SEA might get dicey.    Per the usual, wait for the market to overcorrect and the hype train to start again, then you can look at TB to not cover.

Saw the busted play to Bucky and it was nasty. Really well done buying time off script.

But I mentioned the throw to EE.  Baker was incredibly fortunate that wasnt his 2nd int.  And his first one was REALLY bad.

Well aware. He plays in a high volume offense.  With that volume comes serious, Farve-esque downside that shows its head at some awful times. A trend Mayfield has yet to break.    Much like Brett, nobody gets in Bakers way like Baker.

These are fair takes.   Darnold is mediocre enough to be held in check.  Part of me wants to hold my nose and play the under. I have no confidence in either offense.

Yeah, I think he already won it unless he gets hurt -or- Jaxson Dart's team in a bigger market goes to the playoffs with him as the starting QB.

I say that because Baker got screwed when they handed that award to Saquon Barkley. While 1307 yards rushing & 15 TDs is very impressive - the Giants only improved from 3-13 to 5-11 that rookie year.   Let's pretend he went to Cleveland and did that; and Baker went to the Giants but they were sporting the situation he had in Cleveland I'm about to refresh our memory with.  There's no way Barkley would have won that award IMO

Baker went to an 0-16 team that began his rookie year 0-1-1 plus a 14 point deficit the very 1st time he took the field in a regular season game as an NFL QB. If I include Cleveland's record of 1-15 the year before they went 0-16 - the math tells me the Browns were 1-32-1 full of red hot mess.  Next thing I know, a new QB on a team without a pulse erases the deficit and leads Cleveland to a comeback win.  Key word in that sentence is win. They went on to win 6 more games and finished with 7-8-1 record.  Understanding Baker didn't take the field until about the middle of the 2nd quarter vrs the Jets, here's what he accomplished in the 13.5 games he played in:
