My best friend in heaven was always a Vikings fan.  But he always supported my Browns.  The last game we saw together was the last time they played in Europe.  Tour sent me a souvenir from that game...and now he's in heaven too.

Anyway, it seems that the best way to attack the Vikings is to sack 'em!

On D they're good against the pass.  Shouldn't be a problem.  We're sending in a rookie QB for his 1st NFL start.  What could go wrong?

Another way would be to attack their 24th ranked run D....except that we're ranked 30th in rushing.

Bottom line, they're a team that we can beat.  It's an opportunity for Gabriel to start his career off with a win.  He's started a ton of college games.  He claims he's been ready.  The HC claims that he's ready.  So, ready or not, here comes Angel Gabriel to save us.  Good luck Dillon.  Write us a storybook worth reading and rereading.

Minnesota DC Brian Flores loves to blitz; and the 11 sacks they produced shows it's effective.  Game planning around our Matadors on the edges of pass protection will be the key to our success on offense.  Doesn't sound easy but our FO did zero pre-planning for a LT position that's landed on IR all 3 of the last 3 seasons.  Apparently they need a strike 4 since strike 3 won't get them to admit they were wrong so they're already planning on a healthy return for Dawand Jones.  If they ever looked at film, they'd also see their 6'8" guy can't bend which is pretty much a forfeit in pass pro; and reason the reality of Jones at LT is far worse than their idea (I confess I once thought might be a good idea - I'm wrong a lot).  That said, apparently Ohio State knew what they were doing on offense keeping him t RT?

I get the feeling Judkins will help the Browns improve their 30th rank at running the football; but that will be contingent on the help of the passing game to extend drives when necessary. The pass will have to move the sticks as well.  Screen passes could be effective unless they take too long to set-up while inviting/recruiting quicker pursuit from the D.  That said, short passes to hook zones & flats vacated by blitzing LBers could make the Vikes pay for the blitz.

No matter what happens, this version of Flacco wasn't winning and he's 40 years old.  Time to find out why "This is why we draft all these QBs"  in a similar tone Parcells told his OL "This is why you lift all them weights."

Last time the Brownies were over there, our dearly departed @tour2ma mailed me a pendant from the game.

We'll be thinking of him this weekend as, Just like 2017, we start a rookie QB and a banged up Oline.

And Bruce loved OL play. He would be decrying the botched job this FO has done since the end of last season with refurbishing the OL. Or should I say the non-refurbishing of the OL.

Yes he did.  And this matchup would have plenty to critique.  The Vikings have given up 18 sacks in 4 games.  Take a look at this 'excerpt' from an injury report:

    Vikings Injury Report

    • OL Christian Darrisaw - Rest - DNP
    • OL Donovan Jackson - Wrist - DNP
    • OL Michael Jurges - Hamstring - DNP
    • OL Ryan Kelly - Concussion - DNP
    • OL Brian O’Neill - Knee - DNP

Here's their depth chart for OL: (from ESPN)

LT Christian Darrisaw    Justin Skule    -    -
LG Donovan Jackson O    Joe Huber    -    -
C  Ryan Kelly Q    Michael Jurgens Q    Blake Brandel    Zeke Correll IR
RG Will Fries    Blake Brandel    -    -
RT Brian O'Neill O    Walter Rouse    Matt Nelson IR

ESPN lists the LG & RT as Out.   And the LT is resting up for a busy day against Myles.

This is a game that we have to win because our DL has an opportunity to dominate an OL that's beat to $#!+.   We don't want to put any extra pressure on a rookie QB starting his first NFL game, but sorry Dillon, we gotta win this game.  🙂

Getting in a kickass frame of mind, how about that research above? All we need is the help of hope to instill the will.

Yes, yes he would be taking great issue with the state of OL play.

I still use his own developed systems to get a better handle on Oline grades.

It’s a nationally televised game this week. You might even say it’s internationally televised. You gotta have the NFL Network though.

It’s a work day for me so l won’t get to watch. But it’s also my birthday, one of the ones that ends in a zero so that’s personally exciting. Except it’s also a work day.

I sure miss our telephone conversations. And I have to hope that some of those which concerned mortality once he knew where it was all headed were of some help to him. ??
