Tale of the Tape - Browns @ Steelers

Gabriel was drafted to be a backup QB. A left handed Colt McCoy. He is who he is. Not that he can't improve as time goes on, but he's limited and the Browns knew that. So is Shedeur.
Can we draft a QB with high potential AND develop that QB? That's what Stefanski can't do, IMO. You could give him the best QB prospect in years and I have zero confidence that Stefanski could develop him and our passing attack. You need a QB and a passing game in today's NFL, you can't win shit without one.

Stefanski has done some good things, in 2020 & 2023. 2023 might have been his best coaching, winning with 5 QBs.
Now, it seems like he's afraid of his own woeful offensive line. Virtually nothing down field in the passing game.
Or is it that he doesn't trust his rookie QB?
Bottom line is this isn't a pro offense. They can't string 2 first downs together; in contrast look at this Sunday night game, chunk plays all over.
The one thing that Stefanski hasn't cleaned up are the ridiculous amount of penalties. They should have benched Jeudy after his personal foul, and just like last week, we had a huge play called back because of an illegal formation.
We've all watched some bad football over the years, but this undisciplined BS is harder to watch than the Pat Shurmer crap.
Stefanski, cmon. Channel your inner Ditka and bench these guys who hurt your team weekly.
I had the displeasure of listening to it on the radio while driving. Andrew Siciliano also needs work as a play-by-play guy.
Go Browns.

I've been saying that for years. I've used Joe Banner's statement, "Today's NFL is pass and rush the passer."
If you can't pass the ball, then most decent teams can load up and stop the run, thus leaving you dead in the water. Now, I think that Judkins is a good RB. He's powerfull, runs freakin' hard, isn't slow...he's a good back. But he only got 36 yards rushing today. The Steelers loaded up to stop the run and dared us to beat them with the pass...which, of course, we could not.

Does anyone believe that the Squealers, Bucs, Pats, Eagles, anyone else, can play good football with the Browns offensive line?
My guess is, Stupanski seems to call plays that whap right into the defense that knows pretty much what he is going to call. I know, but it seems that way.
First play by the Squealers? Big Washington runs up through the line, no one catches on, and he lumbers with a caught pass. Stupanski never surprises anyone, and doesn't inspire anyone.

It’s not good when the sideline reporter is taller then your QB
She must be tall, because during last week's game Gabriel was listed at 6'0 and from Oregon. ?

Sounds like a good idea!
The Browns offense will look no better after that

Going back to 2024:
The Browns have scored 17 points or fewer in 11 straight games.
The Browns have scored 17 points or fewer in 19 out of 23 games.
How did we get caught with our pants down on offensive line and wide receiver this year? After last year, they knew those positions had to be addressed and did nothing. I guess the counterargument is we had so many positions of need that it was just best available, but this is just deja vu to 2024. No QB, no o-line, Jeudy is more like a number 2 WR - he ain't no #1.

I like how you asked pointed questions and then gave counterarguments.
It seems that we go into every season with a position group where 'we think' (they think) that the players that we have for the position are going to be good...like it's their 2nd or 3rd year and they're going to play like the vets they are. And then we get into the season and it becomes clear that the guys we have are not that good. Then it's a fire drill. We've seen this with the interior defensive line, the WR's (still the WR's) and now (and last year) the OL. Obviously, thinking that Dewand Jones was an answer is not going to be true.

Or Cedric Tillman at WR apparently.
The thing that sucks about Tillman and Jones is that they showed when healthy they have talent. We know a healthy Jones is a starting caliber right tackle. Guy on one leg owned TJ Watt. Tillman prior to the concussion was coming on...

Yup...but that and a quarter gets ya a gumball. And we're not even certain about Tillman. He hasn't really progressed beyond a 1 or 2 catch per game receiver for us (although a good run support guy). In theory, Tillman might be back to play in some of the season but he'll be so far out of the groove that in reality he's pushed back to next season to show off his blossoming...should there be any blossoming to happen.
Priority #1 for the offseason is ALWAYS going to be QB...until we have a good one in place. Priority #2 is our OL. It is the Higgs Boson Field of the offense. (it gives the skilled players mass ... or the ability to utilize the skilled players' talents) Butch Davis (whom I didn't like) put it best, "Until we fix the OL, nothing will change."

There's quite a few QBs that will declare for the draft, but there aren't many that seem even close to worth the Browns top pick.

Which is pretty much contrary to the thinking of last year (regarding this year's crop). We have two 1st round picks. If we don't use both on a QB (of which current thinking is we won't have to) then one of them had better be for an offensive tackle able to step in and play. And THEN, we'll need a Guard that can step in and play. And perhaps before the end of the draft one more of each. Of course there's still the hypothetical that we won't need a QB at all, in which case we can work a WR in there somewhere.
Maan, I hate talking draft in October...again.

We need to get rid of the ivy league nerd hive mind on this team.. Data points are killing us!

OL was not good. Neither HC, Gabriel, nor Judkins could make up for the OL Tackle play. It was ugly.
Not aiming this at you - it's just an ideal place to post this. 100% neglect at OT - and I'm not accepting how much more important it was to draft a 2nd RB this year or a 2nd QB (with 0 intentions on playing him and half/most of the guys in the draft room not wanting him). Can't have it like it's okay we didn't draft any OTs this year because we like our draft. THIS was the time to try to solidify at least 1 of our broken edges - no more pretending. And we want a franchise QB to be protected with 2 broken edges? Good luck getting any top QB prospect interested in wanting him some Cleveland Browns with this situation; or what got them to this situation overall.
As fate would have it, in round 5 the Giants drafted Purdue OT Marcus MBow with intentions to play him. What they didn't realize while their LT Andrew Thomas was injured during the first few weeks - a guy that only played RT (and some OG earlier on) in college could start at LT be be efficient enough for acknowledgement and praise from a former NFL Lineman like Brian Baldinger. Did the Browns even know he existed? Here's a video in the link below narrated by Baldy.

Well said, but the part I bolded was before the 1st of 3 consecutive IR visits. Now, it's "can't bend, barely moves but willing to hold to save his QB in danger again." In other words, he's a good kid though...
