Browns WR David Bell Retires

The Browns Board

  • David Bell was another WR drafted by Andrew Berry that just didn't pan out. A third rounder out of Purdue, he was a productive possession player who racked up over 230 receptions in three years for the Boilermakers. In the three seasons he played for the Browns, he had 41 receptions for 408 yards and three touchdowns.

  • So long David, we barely knew ya.

I imagine there’s a fair amount of players who simply conclude football is more hassle than it’s worth. Watching last weekend’s game where the Brown’s offense was firing on one and a half cylinders, the only passes available to them were intermediate over the middle routes where the receiver is going to get leveled. That has to get old after a while, and if it’s at the point where you never get to play because of injury, l get the decision to hang it up. The guy ain’t getting any younger. Godspeed David.

He played college at Purdue, not Indiana

Both things are true. He was born in Indiana.

  • Sorry to hear this.  Be well David Bell.

Oh yes ? I'll edit that...

I watched a Todd McShay/Steve Meunch video tonight regarding last weekend college football happenings and a big chunk revolved around Indiana football, so it must have been on my mind.

  • Another example of poor decision making by a general manager. This front office has no idea how to evaluate talent. How many pro bowl players has this team drafted?

  • Sorry to hear.  I hope David does well.

As far as the browns go, this is of very little impact.

Remember this WR Andrew Berry drafted?

The Browns selected wide receiver Anthony Schwartz, one of the fastest wide receivers of the NFL draft class, with the 91st overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft - per the Browns website at the time (they were not responsible for the picture however)

Telepathic Interception - Yes Woody, I made sure everyone knows it's not Braylon Edwards

  •  Sucks. I liked his game coming out of Purdue.  Not 3rd round so much, but still liked it.

Injury is a hell of a thing.  As much as we love this game, it just isn't worth losing a leg for.

I thought that was a good pick at the time. Here's a fond memory - the video still works if you click on the link on the last line where it says Watch on YouTube :

  • Doesn't say what his injury was, but sometimes, players need to

give football up to keep their quality of life.

Browns wide receiver David Bell, 24, retires after being ‘blindsided’ by off-field injury

'I accept that continuing to play football would literally risk life and limb,' Bell said

Turns out he was allergic to pork, particular the kind that came as a pigskin.?
