Cribbs on block??

The Browns Board

  • Cribbs' value to this team goes beyond returning punts/kicks. He's a force on coverage units. He has a 31 yard run from scrimmage. He's a hedge should we look to include WildDawg packages. Finally, and maybe most valuable, is he's a consummate professional. I think that last point is highly valued by EM.

I've told the stories before, but here's two on Cribbs that make me a fan for life:

    - Cribbs was the marquee player to come to the autograph tent at training camp 2 years ago when I had my kids with me. At the time they were 4, 6, and 8. Josh greeted each kid personally with a "Hey little man" or "Hi sweetie" (sons and daughter). Looked them in the eye, and signed their minature footballs. Cribbs just oozed "real".

    - Mike and Mike had Speilman on their show after the Brandon Marshall drama broke. Speilman had been vocal about how offended he was by Marshall's antics. On Mike and Mike he said somthing to the effect of (paraphrased): "There's a way to go about maximizing your contract and Marshall is not doing it. Look at a guy like Joshua Cribbs in Cleveland. Here's a guy who is clearly underpaid and yet he goes to work every day, plays hard, is an example for his teammates and negotiates in private with the ball club."

    Cribbs is a keeper.

  • The Dolphins just drafted Pat White in the SECOND ROUND - 44th overall.

They aren't trading for Cribbs... squintz

    ***************************************

THANK YOU. I was going to say just that.

Pat White is the kind of player drafted because other teams saw what Josh Cribbs means to the Browns.

    A very important talented playmaker.

I would love to see him play safety a little...

Dolphins showing interest in Browns’ Cribbs

    By Carlos "Big C" Holmes | Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 09:34 PM

Miami’s “WildDawg” formation might be about to get a little bit wilder.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Dolphins are showing interest in trading for Cleveland Browns receiver/kick returner Joshua Cribbs.

The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 20 and Cribbs’ representatives have been seeking a new deal for their client since the offseason.

I’m told that negotiations on a new contract for Cribbs are at a stalemate and not to rule out a trade. It was not made clear whether or not the Browns would entertain offers for Cribbs, so a call was placed to Browns headquarters but GM George Kokinis was unavailable for comment.

Cribbs has three years remaining on a six-year, $6.7 million contract he signed in 2006, but is vastly undervalued with the current deal. The former Pro Bowler is scheduled to make $720,000 this season and $735,000, $750,000, $890,000 over the next three years.

In my opinion, the Browns are getting Cribbs on the cheap when you compare those numbers to his performance.

Cribbs brings a lot to the table, both on and off the field, and the Browns could do a lot worse with their money. With the trade deadline looming, it will be interesting to see if talks heat up. If not, this may give representatives for Cribbs leverage to demand a trade if the organization fails to negotiate.

Can things get any worse in Cleveland?

This Browns team is reminding me more and more like the Indians!! Man, if Lebron leaves the Cavs they might as well shutdown the City of Cleveland as far as Professional Sports go. Cleveland fans don't deserve the BS that these sorry ass owners and M's are doing to these teams!!

There is NOTHING that the Miami Dolphins can offer for us to give him up in a trade to them! Cribbs is the best player on this team and to not pay him would be a mistake! Just ridiculous!! The ONLY way I trade him is for a starting QB straight up and no one will do that!

  • Guys don't buy into this, I live in Dayton and Carlos "Big C" Holmes is a xxxxing moron! If this thing had any legs whatsoever we would hear about it from more reputable sources than this douche bag! No way after Mangini trading away every weapon this team has will they trade our last, aint happening. Dont worry this guy has written shit like this before that never came to fruition, he's a xxxxing idiot with no sources whos trying to get people to read his column!

  • Someone earlier in this thread said a 2nd rounder and a 2011 1st rounder for Cribbs.

You guys will be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him IMO. MAYBE a team is silly enough and gives up a 3rd rounder.

I like Cribbs and he's one of the best return men in the game right now....but no one is going to give up as much as you guys probably think he's worth.

  • They will not trade Josh Cribbs.

    That is all...

  • I'll believe it when I see it. Cribbs is a guy who works and fits the Mangini mold. I think he gets a new (fair) contract at the end of the season.

  • down here in Miami the feeling is they won't do it.

the radio guys think the only way it happens is for a 4th or 5th rounder....like the Browns would take that.

  • I never trust anything written by a writer called "Big" anything....

A "source with knowledge of the situation"?? Why on earth would Mangini get rid of arguably his BEST player? You still need to return kicks. I compare Cribbs to Leon Washington for the NYJ. Mangini LOVED what that guy brought to the table.

Stalemate? If he's worth it...the Browns will pay him.

  • I say pay Cribbs & put him at running back where he would be a definite triple threat.

I doubt that they trade him, but if I were GM & they WERE considering a trade, that would cost the Dolphins Ginn & a 2nd. What the hey...if they want him, make them pay! None of this "conditional" garbage either.

    Mike

  • Ain't gettin a 2nd rounder for a guy that just returns kicks.

This is another example of Browns fans overrating a player

Cribbs is a specials team player with at best 3 years left the way he plays the game

People here call him a playmaker and the best player on the team, the guy was terrible as a wide receiver and yes he is a great kick returner but no team would give you a 2nd rounder for a guy who returns kicks and is a gunner on the coverage units.

This tells you everything about the Browns when your supposed best player is a kick returner

I am so tired of people saying Cribbs can do this and that and put him in the WildDawg, Cribbs is only good in space and on gimmick plays, when he is in the backfield the plays don't work because the defense knows what plays he is running from the shotgun, Cribbs is a guy you can use 4-5 times per game in specialty packages, this is not a guy you give up a 1st or 2nd round pick for, maybe a team looking for that last piece might offer a 3rd round pick.

Tell me the last kick returner traded for a 1st or 2nd round pick, this is the NFL not fantasy football people

  • More info from Rotoworld, other teams interested, if the offer is good why not take it. It takes more then one guy to have a winning team. At the same time Cribbs does rock and i would hate to see him go.

(Rotoworld) Along with Miami, the Chiefs, Raiders, and Colts have also reportedly shown interest in trading for Browns KR/WR Josh Cribbs. Analysis: The Browns don't seem interested in restructuring Cribbs' contract, and they're not going to be competitive any time soon. A Pro Bowl special teamer may be a luxury they can't afford, so it's worth see what kind of draft-pick package they can get in return. Cribbs would likely require a new contract wherever he winds up.

Sony, how dare you break down and destroy this forums fantasies. You should do no such thing. It is like telling the Quinnbots that Brady is a bad QB. No such things exist. Love your posts. You wade through the crap the Shepites post on how great this guy is, or that guy. Not enough of that on this site.

FWIW, if somebody offered a 2 for Cribbs, he would be packing his bag quickly.

  • Cribbs and our special teams won our only game of the season. If we let him go, we can expect years of pain from management trying to save a buck. Fans will sniff this out and attendance will decline at very rapid rate. This would be the dumbest move by the Browns since expansion. Unless, somehow, they find a way to win without him.

No, it doesn't tell you all you need to know beause Cribbs isn't the "best" player on the team. He could be the most explosive or even the most athletic, but he isn't the best.

The Browns two best players are guys that play in the trenches - Rogers and Thomas-- not Cribbs. Cribbs is a very important piece to the puzzle but not the best player on the team.

  • If they trade Cribbs I would like a Ricky Williams and a 1st round pick.

    otherwise No Deal.

  • I hear Miami is out but the Colts and the Raiders are interested. I can see indi. he can really help them be a more effective special teams unit... but the Raiders.. Yeah right...he's the one who will put them over the top hahaha. ..

I like cribbs..but being that he is a special teams guy and we are still 2-3 years away from fielding a legit team.... I think we should see what we can get.. Look to the future.. In 2-3 years when we have had time to build a team.(if all goes well). cribbs will be past his prime as a special teamer.. of course it depends on what we get..But if it's a 3rd rounder..i say go for it.. we got him for no pick at all
