BQ already better win % than DA

The Browns Board

  • Have to say that I am not surprised to not see much BQ bashing. But to act like he played great is kind of interesting. DA has lead the Browns several times to get them in position to win a game. It took horrible play by Edwards, a missed FG and a great FG to win this game. I can give BQ a pass because of the conditions but to say he played great with that stat line is rather funny. And remember, this is the same coaching staff that was calling plays for DA also..and the same BE that dropped passes that DA threw. I seem to recall seeing some people say that BE would stop dropping the ball when BQ was throwing to him.

Anyways, I can understand giving BQ a pass but to pat him on the back after a game like this..well that is more biased than Lum is for DA.

I dont think anyone is patting him on the back, but, he did NOT look rattled and had to face some relentless blitzing that we never adjusted to. He did not, for the SECOND straight game, turn the ball over. Yup, he got lucky on a couple, one that was not his fault, one that was. That said, it is refreshing to know we have a QB who is not going to make TO after TO after TO like that clown did last year against Cincy. I looked at his stats - DA threw 41 interceptions his last 2 years at Oregon State... 41!!!!

  • BQ's QB rating = 80 after tonight. Just under Kerry Collins and just above Big Ben.

The biggest stat is no interceptions.

And BQ holds the ND record for fewest.

  • And he gets a win with defenders in his face all night. How much does this line lose without Tucker? I never say guys coming clean without even being touched beating him up and he stood in there, took the hits and did a good job.

I thought the play calling sucked. If they are continually rushing/blitzing you up the middle why not throw a screen or roll the QB out more?

He didn't play great. He played well. If you break down his passes, he had very, VERY few bad ones. He had 14 completions, 6 that were dropped or could have been caught, and at least 8-10 that qualify as throwaways (including the one where Braylon was doubled in the end zone). We had 339 yards of offense, 0 turnovers, and won the TOP war again... on the road in tough weather.

It's a successful second start and a road win for Quinn. Not great... but successful.

I totally agree. To lead this team to a FG with a little over a minute was really good. He handle the pressure very well. Although he did make some bad throw but what do you except with only 2 games under his belt.

  • But let's not underestimate the environment. Quinn's second primetime audiance in a row. That's 2 out of 2 NFL starts. The game is away, against a top ten defense, with their backs against the wall. The crowd was loud.

Quinn had zero interecptions, a 94 yard drive, and got Phil close enough to win in the end. Managed the game well and didn't waste any timeouts. No fumbles, had a ton of pressure (tell me any of us woulnd't let loose in our drawers the way the linebacker was coming up the middle). Yes BE dropeed a few, but so did the Bills DB's, so lets call those a wash.

And came out with a win. Not a great performance, but fairly impressive.

No, he doesn't hold the record for fewest picks.

And yes, you are gay for presuming that.

    Yes, he does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Quinn

Lowest INT ratio. Of course there are those who have fewer picks, but they took about 2 snaps. Most don't need the explaination, Cliff Clavin.

This is great. Quinn had an average statistical game, and he is getting a ton of praise. Go check the Pluto article.

No, Buffalo isn't a top ten defense.

The fake stats are coming out of the woodwork.

legendary thread. hope ya didn't lose too much sleep giggling yourself to sleep.

great....he's beat 2 shitty teams. thats a fantastic feat.....we're set for life.

    /duh

  • As opposed to the alternative, we are set at least for now. I suppose you'd rather have the Anderson who played against Baltimore twice or Washington or Cincy this year right? Throwing the ball all over the place, mostly to the other team? That's a lot better because every once in a while the stars are gonna align properly and he'll play a great game (vs. the Giants).

It wasn't pretty last night...but it was a win.

  • All i know is i feel more comfortble about bq on the field even as a newbie than i did da always wondering which da was going to show up 2 games in and bq looks poised already so win or lose the kid does not make game costing mistakes and can hustle to avoid the sack he has a rifle for an arm and he is only gonna get better rather lums likes it or not...

Chud and tucker suck as bad as crennel i hope lerner relieves them all of their undeserved positions...

  • I agree with Pluto:

by Terry Pluto Tuesday November 18, 2008, 12:20 AM

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Who knows if Brady Quinn will develop into a Pro Bowl quarterback, but aren't you impressed by his poise? Don't you want to see more of him? Aren't you glad that at least Quinn gives you a reason to watch the last six games of this otherwise discouraging Browns season?

That all came to mind while watching Quinn and the Browns on this frigid night in a 29-27 victory over Buffalo. The wind was whipping hard enough to make teeth chatter and the goal posts shiver.

Yet Quinn stayed out of big trouble with no silly interceptions, few ill-advised decisions. He didn't waste timeouts because he couldn't hear the play call in the radio helmet. Or because he wasn't sure how the team was supposed to line up. Both had been problems earlier in the season.

Quinn looked as if he has been through this before. He was not bothered by the noise from a hostile crowd, or by a variety of Buffalo stampedes and blitzes. He was often knocked down after making throws, but stayed away from costly sacks. He also refused to give the defense the pleasure of knowing that they had caused him some pain -- and believe me, some of those direct hits had to hurt.

Brady Quinn (left), Josh Cribbs and Darnell Dinkins enjoyed Cribbs' TD run in the second quarter Monday night. The score gave the Browns an early 13-0 lead over the Bills at Orchard Park, N.Y.Yes, there was a close call in the middle of the fourth quarter when an interception was over-ruled by a challenge from Romeo Crennel. But then Quinn bounced back by delivering a sharp first-down pass to Kellen Winslow.

Quinn also showed excellent mobility. He ran twice for a total of 20 yards. He made some nice throws on the move, and he needed to be nimble in the pocket because he teammates had a dismal night picking up the blitz -- especially those coming right up the middle.

This was Quinn's second pro start. It came under the national television spotlight of Monday night and it was against a Buffalo team that came into the evening on a 3-game losing streak, but with a 5-4 record and playoff dreams still dancing in their helmets.

As for the Browns, it was a 3-game losing streak, a 3-6 record, and defense near collapse.

A tough setting for any quarterback, yet Quinn passed the test -- especially when compared to the Bills' Trent Edwards. Edwards was playing at home. The crowd noise was not a factor -- yet he threw three interceptions in the first quarter!

Too bad the Browns couldn't do more than turn it into nine points. Keep in mind, Quinn was not perfect. And it sure would have been nice to see Jerome Harrison on the field for more than three plays in the first half.

    But overall, Quinn was solid.

It's very possible Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis was right to insist Quinn has the right stuff for the NFL because he played under such pressure in South Bend. Weis meant the attention and media scrutiny that comes from playing at such a famed program.

Another factor may be that at Notre Dame, Quinn often faced teams with more talent than his Irish. He is not intimidated by facing teams that are better. Or playing in front of huge, screaming crowds on the road. In fact, nothing about the job seems to knock Quinn off his confidence.

Granted, it's only two games. But even watching him in the preseason, he gives off the impression of knowing what he's doing. None of this guarantees stardom. Opposing teams will study his game films, chart his tendencies, try to take away his favorite throws and force him to make plays that are out of his comfort zone.

Quinn threw a few balls down field, none for big gains. But at least he forced the defense to think he could throw long. After catching only one pass in Quinn's first start in the 34-30 loss to Denver, Braylon Edwards was Quinn's favorite receiver on this night with eight catches.

Quinn was14-of-36 for 185 yards. Not great, but not bad. They have scored 59 points in his first two starts.

The Browns defense could have made Quinn's life a little easier with some solid tackling. Instead, it was often shaky. One of the reason the Browns tackling is so miserable is the linebackers aren't just slow, they are forever two steps behind and then making hapless and hopeless lunges to catch the ballcarrier.

But in the end, Quinn did more than win his first game as a Brown. He took another step to claiming to quarterback job for next season.

    ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

I give BQ credit in that the OL couldn't pick up the blitz to save their life and BQ was not intercepted. Yes, there were 2 possiblities but they were balls that even the "old" BE wouldn't have caught. DA would have had as many INTs as Edwards with the kind of pressure BQ was experiencing last night. And unlike DA, BQ never came off the field with a DumbAss grin on his face. Granted, last night was an UGLY win, but it, IMO would have been a loss ad DA been under center. And again I say...

It is definitely time for ALL of us to simply stop acknowledging/replying to Lumfukc! He is a waste of time and is OBVIOUSLY NOT A BROWNS FAN! We MUST perform the excorcism!!!
