I was just about to ask this question. I always see rumblings about Brent Grimes, but ever since we signed two bad TEs, I haven't heard anything on Fred Davis. I hope we're still in the runnings. Him and Cameron would be a nice duo of TEs to have here. Both big and athletic with good hands.
Signed with Redskins. Browns didn't want him: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000155236/article/fred-davis-signs-contract-with-washington-redskins
Note that Sharp, Schlereth, Nalen, and Davis were all part of the Broncos back to back Super Bowls in the late 90s.
Great stuff Gip, thanks for putting this together and sharing. Does anyone know who the Broncos GM was at the time during those picks?
For the same reason we didn't keep Harrison, which is because he can't block. I would expect the Browns to not throw a ton of money or a high draft pick at another RB, sure we will most likely be getting one in the 4th or later rounds like calfoxwc mentions or a cheap signing but we have Hillis and Montario Hardesty.
After tonights game, gimme Cameron Heyward. Arkansas couldn't do anything to stop him. Trade down and get this guy!
6'4" and 254?!?! Jesus, how fast does he run the 40?
Although his position in college was DE, he would probably be like a Wimbley OLB/DE pass rusher project. From what I remember he was a pass rusher in college, didn't he get into some trouble and get suspended this year? I don't know why everyone keeps rating him so high? Having not played an entire season, I would expect his stock to fall a bit.
Shaun Rogers was inexcusably awful this year, with a whopping 16 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The only aspect of our defense that looks promising is the secondary. For a 3-5 weeks, Haden, Ward, and Elam really played shutdown defense... then it all went downhill.
This draft is loaded with D-lineman too. Not to base everything off of ESPN's Scout Inc. but the top 10 players are a good example of the amount of talent at the D-line position in this draft. 6 of the top 10 are D-lineman and only one is under 280lbs:
2. Da'Quan Bowers
Position: DE School: Clemson Grade:97 Height: 6'4'' Weight: 280lbs
3. Nick Fairley
Position: DT School: Auburn Grade: 97 Height: 6'5'' Weight: 298lbs
6. Robert Quinn
Position: DE School: N. Carolina Grade: 96 Height: 6'4'' Weight: 254lbs
8. Marcell Dareus
Position: DT School: Alabama Grade: 96 Height: 6'2'' Weight: 303lbs
9. Adrian Clayborn
Position: DE School: Iowa Grade: 95 Height: 6'3'' Weight: 285lbs
10. Stephen Paea
Position: DT School: Oregon State Grade: 95 Height: 6'1'' Weight: 304lbs
The 6th pick is too high for Julio Jones
Agreed, however there's a lot of time ahead and combine might improve his rating and/or another WR.
To be honest, I would rather go for a D-lineman and try to pick up a great WR via free agency, trade or maybe in the later rounds of the draft. We have a solid core of possession WR's but we don't have that speedster/ #1 WR. If we can get a #1 WR via free agency, than I believe it would improve the game of all our possession receiver's (Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie, Chaunci Stuckey, Josh Cribbs) by opening up the field for them.
Man, I hope we don't trade way down to get a left guard or deep snapper. We need a serious impact player, preferably A.J. Green. My gut says Holmgren fires Mangini Monday or soon, moves down the sideline, gives Colt McCoy a full year as a starter, and gives him weapons who can actually get open.
Out of curiosity, how do 1st round WR's usually fair in their first NFL season? I don't mean to be a downer, but I have a feeling we will lose A.J. Green to Cinci at #3, but if we were to get him, would he be able to make a impact from the get go?

Houston just about has it's game won with 3 minutes left! Dallas is losing right now, but they are only down by a touchdown.
Whoa! Was anyone watching the Cowboys Eagles game? That was awesome. INT to seal it, Browns get the 6th pick baby!
My bad, thanks for the link! So it looks like as of right now we are going to get the 1st round pick of anywhere from the 6th to the 8th.
If Dallas and Houston both win we get the 6th.
If just Dallas or just Houston wins we get the 7th.
And if both Dallas and Houston loses we get the 8th.
Even though we will know by tomorrow around 4pm, I was just wondering what position everyone thinks the Browns will receive for the 1st round of the 2011 NFL draft?
I'm pretty optimistic, I'm going to go with 5th pick with the following happening:
-Denver loses San Diego.
-San Fransisco loses to Arizona.
-Buffalo wins/loses doesn't matter for us, either way they will pick before us.
-Cleveland loses to Pittsburgh.
-Houston loses to Jacksonville.
-Cincinnati wins against Baltimore (going out on the limb here, but they did it before).
-Arizona wins against San Fransisco.
-Dallas wins against Philadelphia.
-Detroit keeps the streak alive and wins against Minnesota.
