First let me state, just how awesome it is to finally not get the referee's scorn aimed our way. Second, I would like to state how awful NFL refereeing is in regards to bias. It was clear, the refs got the memo that the Lions are the "better team" and will get the benefit of the whistles, it sucks they do this. As a Lions fan who has seen "the process" take away a Calvin Johnson game winning TD and then later in the year see the exact same play called differently, we understand the NFL's MO, and it sucks. As a Lions fan who has seen the refs i na typical game against GB, call holding or a phantom chop block on our first 3 drives, BUT ONLY AFTER WE CROSS THE 50 seemingly to assure GB the first score, we understand what bias is.
Yesterday was a clear "we are going to make Cleveland earn everything" before we let them sport a winning record. It won't get better this year, sadly. Believe me, on Detroit's first TD drive, we took no joy out of the horrible PI call on Joe Haden, setting up our first TD. That was a FG drive, that is what we earned. The personal foul on the alleged roughing of Matt Stafford on a crucial 3rd down in the 2nd half, was likewise, pure NFL stupidity. I had no doubt Greg Little's sideline catch was going to be called incomplete and put the burden of proof on the Browns to prove it was a catch as opposed to having the burden on the Lions to prove it wasn't a catch. That is how the NFL rolls, and it needs to stop. Call a straight game.
But yeah, Detroit is further along in the teams development, but I thought trading Richardson was genius, he clearly was not electric, so things are definitely looking up for Cleveland in the next few years. Haden, TJ Ward, Josh Gordon, Joe Thomas (who was excellent yesterday) are all the real deal. Get a QB, get some calls to go your way, and things will be turning around.
Enjoy the 4 TD victory we put up against Cincy next week gang.
