***Official Browns @ Dolphins Game Day ThreadAnyone have a link for the game. I can't bring myself to watch this one in public,.
-
***Official Browns @ Buccaneers Preseason Game Night Thread***That glimmer is gonna be unfounded. Very little talent plus horrible horton scheme = one of the worst defenses in the nfl.
-
***Official Browns @ Buccaneers Preseason Game Night Thread***Ray hortons zone blitz scheme is garbage. There is a siv down the middle of the field. I was mad when he was hired watching these preseason games i am pissed.

Carl NassibAlso, did you not read the presser? jackson said they drafted him to play defensive end.
-
Carl NassibGoing to go ahead and save these posts. Your choice of words and terminology leads me to believe you were first introduced to football via Madden.
So let's just re-visit this topic in six months. If Nassib gets any interior play it will be one gap assignments or a glarring lack of depth. It'll be fun coming back to this.

Dont even have the time to go into my football knowledge here with u. But im down for that bet. 6 months whomeever is right gets to pick the others avatar. Deal?

Carl NassibAgree... if he adds through maturation, fine, but don't pack it on and lose his burst.
Any thought on Zettel? When I watched Carl's tapes, I found myself being distracted by Zettel fairly often. Actually ended up feeling that he had more value potential in a 3-4 than Nassib did.
Also i dont see him playing in our 4 man front nickel packages that will be an olb on each side and most likely two defensive tackles in the middle. Maybe in a few yrs hed play in those fronts in the middle but doubtful. Hes a defensive end for our 3-4 base packages.
-
Carl NassibI wouldn't put any additional weight on Carl. His game is what the tape shows a LE in a four man front which we'll play plenty of. He'll give a tackle fits here and there, he'll probably be great for your linebackers to that side and string out any stretch plays or curb them back into pursuit. Trying to do to much to this kid is exactly why I hated what Pettine did with my boy Billy Winn.
Hes 6 ft 7 and not playing olb. They will surely have him put on weight at his position. Im not sure what you were watching but this guys game is not finesse or speed its shear relentless power. Which it will continue to be as he gets bigger and stronger. The frame is there to build on.
-
Carl NassibSure... if you add about 40 pounds.
Bryant is 6 foot 6 310 pnds. I can guarantee you he wasnt 310 coming out of harvard. Nassib is 6 foot 7 280 pnds. So hes almost there. Im sure by the start of the season he will be close to 300 pnds for his playing weight. This guys game isnt his speed or finesse its his power and motor so more weight and strength wont halter that. Perfect fit for hortons 3-4 DE position.

Carl NassibHue has said Nassib is slated to play defensive end In hortons 3-4. He reminds me of Desmond bryant body wise.

Browns Hire Horton For D CHorton said the first time we hired him it would be a hybrid multiple front attacking defense. He specifically said there would be 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, 4-4 looks depending on the situation.
How much of that happened in 2013? I'm not sure and I probably couldn't find data on it anywhere.
I dont recal us ever running a 4-3 our base package was 3-4 under him and i do remember us running the 5-2 as well with a sibgle high safety. Good to stop the run but you get torched on screens and play action. The closest thing he ran to a 4-3 was a nickel defense with a 4 man front ran by pretty much every nfl team

Browns Hire Horton For D CTampa 2....no
We'd have to find the next Urlacher if we wanted to have any success with that. IE A guy who can attack the LOS and also drop back 30 yards into coverage like a safety.
Tampa 2, to me, basically means on passing up great talent because it isn't the right talent.
Lovies defenses have always been solid. Id take the tampa 2 over that crud horton runs any day. You dont get beat deep like we did under horton or oneil and as it does have its disadvantages you dont need a hall of fame mlb for it to be successful.
-
Browns Hire Horton For D CGuess we'll see but im super bummed about this hire. Would of rather landed lovie smith or leslie frazier. Weve seen hortons defenses get lit up. When he coached us and when we had the biggest come from behind road victory in the nfl with hoyer at the helm vs his putrid scheme.
-
Browns Hire Horton For D CThe dline coach was with the giants since 2010 and their 4-3 scheme is similar to the bengals. I would assume someone who has coached as long as horton has can run a more basic 4-3 defense. The only difference from that and most nickle packages are just swapping out a linebacker for a nickel corner. That is where player personnel comes into play seattle scheme is very basic but the guys in it are so fast and good at what they do it doesnt matter. Same with the bengals to a lesser degree and thos giants teams of the past that won superbowls.
-
Browns Hire Horton For D CI'll only say this- to make the 3-4 work, you need great linebackers. Anyone consider our linebackers "great"?
Hue may tell Horton maximize the talent you have, and scheme around it.
Im hoping thats why we hired the dline coach from the giants because horton is going to employ an attacking 4-3 defense rather than this 3-4 zone blitz lebeau scheme that just doesnt work anymore.
-
Browns Hire Horton For D CThose of you saying horton is even a mediocre dc are wrong. Horton is an awful hire. Yards pergame is a stupid stat that does not tell the whole story. The 3-4 ryan/petine run and the one lebeau/horton run is not effective anymore. The biggest problem this team had last yr was the defense. That will only continue with this hiring!
In 2015, the Browns ranked 29th in points allowed (27) and 27th in total defense (379.2), 22nd against the pass (250.8) and 30th against the run (128.4).
During Hortons brief stint with the Browns, they ranked 23rd in points allowed (25.4) and ninth in total defense (332.4). They finished 18th against the run (111.3) and tied for eighth against the pass (221.1).
The defense also tied for 29th in the red zone (allowing touchdowns 64 percent of the time) and ranked 31st on third down (allowing opponents to convert 44.7 percent) in 2013. Hortons men struggled mightily at the end of the second and fourth quarters, blowing several leads. They allowed a league-high 145 points in the final quarter. In a three-game stretch, the Browns surrendered four touchdowns during the final 2:17 in losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears.
23rd in points per game, 30th in redzone allowed and 31st in first down pecentage.you dont need as many yards if you can score at will. 32nd in points allowed in the 4th quarter.
Yds per game is not the end all stat and does not make a defense good.

Aj MccaronWhy do some of you even think hes a good backup. I watched just about every game he started. Dude is awful. Johnny looks like tom brady compared to aj. I would trade a 2nd rnder for his smokin hot wife though.

Hue Trageting Ray Horton For Dc Lol!Really ray horton? If this is hues idea of turning around the browns it must start with the defense our worst problem. Ray horton is awful!
