So you think that this team is better or worse than last years team? if you say worse, because of record, you are OUT of your mind. Eric Mangini said something when he was the head coach here, that blew my mind. He said its possible that you played better football, and had a worse record.

All you have to do is compare schedules to understand why we are struggling this season.
The first four games, every single team we have played, has one loss. they have a combined 9-4 record.
last year, we opened with the bengals, (9-7 and playoff team)
the colts first pick in the draft,
the dolphins 8th pick in the draft
and tennessee, who finished 9-7
only one team out of our first six games made the playoffs last year, and that was the cincy bengals.
we also last year had more of a veteran team. we had chris gocong on defense at lb, we had colt mccoy, we had peyton hillis. had tony pashos.
Now you are expecting to win, with our schedule being the 3rd hardest going into the season and looking to be every bit as tough and having 9 drafted rookies and 6 UDFA make the team, that this team was going to be better?
I understand it is frustrating. But you have to look at his from a really distant mindset.
Jimmy Haslam is going to bring in something we havent had since the browns came back. An owner who gives a crap, and already is surrounding himself with people who know how to build a franchise from the ground up in Joe Banner.
A lot of the pieces that are here right now, will be a part of that future.
Joe Thomas, Brandon Weeden, TRich, Jordan Cameron, Sheard, Taylor, Robertson, Ward, Haden, Mack, Rubin, Billy Winn schwartz.
And all of the second and first year players are gaining a crap ton of experience this year.
With all of the uncertainty dropped on the players with the ownership change, people were expecting some miracle that just wasnt the reality of the situation. I predicted 3 wins at the beginning of the season. And thats fine with me. Youth does not get served at the NFL level. But we are coming. And finally, when we do get there this time, it looks like we are going to stay a while, not have the flash in the pan seasons like 2002 and 2007. this thing is built for the long haul.
I think people are wanting the wrong Gruden.. I would steal Jay away from the Bungles, he has previous HC experience and winning experience at that. Plus it would hurt a division rival. If Haslem wants to hire a young HC to keep around for a while he fits the bill..

Who ever is the head coach, needs to keep jauron at this point. They have been drafting for two years for the 4-3 and found some really nice pieces in sheard, and taylor, along with rubin.
If they keep shurmur, considering that haslam said he values consistency i wouldnt be upset. i think though he should have to give up his play calling.
The guy above makes a good point and one I believe as well: Weeden throwing 40-50 times a game is great! He needs as much practice as he can get and Trent saves his bum knee for next year when we need him 100%. Trent is learning, too, but doesn't need 25+ carries to gain that experience. He's learning, otho, to block well and get out into the flat and catch screens. His all-purpose yards are just as valuable as his rushing.

I know he's a rookie. He's a 28 year old rookie and that matters, he has less time to learn than a 21 or 22 year old rookie, less room for error etc.
He's gonna have to learn a new offense next year, it's obvious. Things aren't gonna be easy for him, ever. We had no business drafting a 28 year old QB, when we're nowhere near talented enough as a team to get to the playoffs. Our defense has plenty of average players but only 1 or 2 game-changing players, one who is suspended.
Thats where i completely disagree. i honestly believe that with the experience he is getting this year, and some upgrades at receiver, that he is going to be fully capable next year of helping this team to the playoffs. The defense is already there. The offense has got to do their part, and that would go a long way with the receivers catching the darn ball. We could be 2-2 right now, if we just caught the dang ball.

OK start your own team and trade for McCoy and have at it. I can't tell you if Weeden will be a franchise QB or an elite QB, but I can tell you, he is and always will be a better QB than Colt McCoy. Why some of you can't accept the obvious is mind boggling.

Will get better with more weapons around him, he is going to get even better. People just need to have patience and realize that its a tough spot right now. Hes gonna make mistakes. People think because hes 28 that hes not a rookie. He is. Hes going to make mistakes, and learn from them. I love the foundation of this team.

because mccoy sucks. he doesnt have an nfl arm, gets more scared than a kitty in a dog pound at any sign of pressure. he throws late, he struggles with 20 yard passes that weeden can make from his knees......

Colt McCoy's contract would've been up and we could have moved on with a Matt Barkley or Geno Smith without any question. Now people will ask whether we should move on with Weeden. We could've spent a 1st rounder on a guy like DeCastro or Zeitler and refined our O-line even more.

Sure, I'm a know it all. Or maybe I've sat back and watched this team replace QB after QB without success. Maybe if we actually built teams around these QB's we'd of made the playoffs one of these years. Our experts have been shitting the bed for about 13 years, so if you want to blindly trust them go ahead. If you're content with a 28 year old QB who probably won't get much better then be content. But I get pissed when my team sucks, I want us to be good and with some gunslinging below-average QB we're not close.

if he feels any pressure he breaks down, stops looking down field and then gets crushed. hes small, he has a even smaller arm, and does the one thing you cant do, break down when the protection does. All things that brandon weeden isnt, and doesnt do.....he had pressure on him all day long against the ravens. and even his pick six wasnt a PRESSURE oh god and chuck it, he threw to the wrong spot. it should of been more towards the sideline.
Sure the talent needs upgrading around weeden. mainly at receiver, and guard. But this whole team is learning together.

When you have the change that the BROWNS made, transferring over from MANGINI, to Shurmur, you had an entire CHANGE, meaning the offensive philo changed, as did the defensive PHILO AND SCHEME.
It takes time. And with new ownership coming in, and going to fire holmgren and shurmur, there is no doubt about that, its going to change again, but they arent going to be changing personnel. not like the last guys did.
Who is left on the offense from mangini? Joe? Alex? Ben? mo? thats 7 new guys in 2 years.
And on defense? Rubin? dq? so nine. meanwhile, the 49ers brought back all 11 starters on defense, and added ONE NEW GUY ON OFFENSE. randy moss.....

When you are a young inexperienced team, opening up with a schedule like that, with BAD COACHING on top of it. Things are going to be bad. They will be MUCH better next year. Reguardless of who is the coach. The experience weeden, trich, schwartz, gordon, benjamin, are all getting this year, is going to be INVALUABLE come next season.
there is no point in bitching. we were effed for the season anyway once we decided to go young. Doubly fucked when we announced an owner ship change right before the start of the season, and triple fucked when we decided we were going so young.

Passing yards don't mean crap. Weeden is on pace for about 12 TD's and 28 INT's. But apparently he's the answer cause he can throw for 300 yards and Colt can't. The WCO is all about YAC, well, at least it's supposed to be.
Lol, last year we were one TD a game away from being 9-6-1. Colt had us in a lot of games, it's not like we were getting blown out, it's that our defense always got gassed in the 4th quarter and we had no one on offense to make a play consistently. But twice we saw Colt throw to the end zone last year, from 30+ yards out for late TD's to Cribbs and Mo Mass. Colt is a playmaker the way he extends plays and can pick up a 1st down with his feet. He doesn't have a cannon but the WCO doesn't call for one.
With Colt fully healthy and on a contract year, plus our team being a mess, replacing the QB made no sense. You can't justify it.
You should go look at peyton mannings stats from his first year. I dont want to say anymore, i wouldnt want to overload you.....
im loving this play calling for one simple reason. They are limiting the abuse trich is taking, and getting weeden ready for his second season by throwing everything at him.

yes we are stupid. stupid because a guy who has as many drops as catches, celebrates every catch like hes the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game.
Our QB gave the other team 6 points by underthrowing a 5 yard out.
Our QB was still very inaccurate, throwing balls in the dirt and behind receivers.
The drops were definitely a factor, but so many people act like Weeden is some victim and he didn't make mistakes.
for every bad pass he threw, which we will say was what 5? we had two drops making 10. hes a rookie qb, playing on the road, being told to throw the ball 52 times by his lame duck dead man walking coach, who then takes out his best offensive weapon out on third downs.

yes, every qb, especially in the rain, is going to make a bad pass or two.
Flacco made several of them that we didnt make him pay for.
so the moral of the story is.....yes, weeden through some bad passes.
But, Little dropped three very catchable balls including a GREAT pass down the middle of the field that should of been a touch down, norwood dropped a very crucial third down pass.
Far too many drops for professional receivers. bad passes by a rookie qb learning on the job is to be expected.
I can not, accept excuses. Wide Receivers have one job to do. CATCH THE FOOTBALL. if they arent doing that, then why should they get time. Id rather see gordon struggle reading coverages, in the hope that the one time he gets it right, at least he will CATCH THE BALL.
