That's a bit of an overreaction to what I stated.
It's blatantly obvious Pettine has made mistakes. As I have said in the past, I hope he can learn from them. But I am a Browns fan, not a Pettine fan. Right now, it looks like he is not ready for the big time head coaching position.
If he learns and leads us to success, which I hope he does, I'll be the first to congratulate him. But so far, and it has been early, I'm seeing too many rookie mistakes.
And it's not so much playcalling as it is the other stuff. Team does not look prepared. The Offensive line performance has been offensive. The whole QB situation and the way that has been handled through the media has been neophyptic. The defense has not lived up to expectations. Yes, it's just preseason, and I certainly expect a big fat steaming turd in the 4th preseason game.
We'll have to see what happens in the regular season, but I hope there is improvement shown.

Yes, Manziel looked better. He was also given several high percentage throws and didn't quite bail after his first read. I"m a bit shocked myself on the TD scramble because the Rams sent zero pressure.
However his internal clock is going to take some time. He rushes himself when there isn't heat and doesn't sense is when its coming. As evidenced from the Sam sack. He's got a long way to go in feeling the pocket which, aside from accuracy might be the most important trait in a QB.
Sam wasn't even blocked on that play.
Without better line play, no QB is going to succeed.
Imagine if we had Peyton Manning. He wouldn't last a week.
I've never been a Shanahan fan. That being said, fixing the offensive line would go a long way to cure the offense. That should be #1 priority. #2 priority would be getting better receivers. Ones that can catch and run decent routes.
Pettine continues to make rookie mistakes. He's a good coach, and this is just part of the learning process. I have confidence he will get it eventually.

Really eye-opening to see the veteran Hoyer struggle like that. Manziel needs time and probably should have stayed in school another year.
The offensive line didn't seem to play well at all, which helped neither QB.
Recievers did not look good overall.
Defense looks good, but not great.
Best thing would probably be start Hoyer and see how it goes. Get Manziel in if its a blowout game (which I dont expect).
If it's not going well, perhaps make a QB change during the bye week IF you think Mamziel is progressing satisfactorily. Otherwise, sit him until needed. Because if the Oline doesnt start playing better, he and perhaps Grossman will be needed.
I expect Shaw to be on the scout team.
Don't know about all that. I do know a running QB has never won the Super Bowl. Stauback and Young were not running quarterbacks by the time they won the Super Bowl. Hoyer gives the Browns the best chance to win right now.
