I've been a Cowboys fan since 1972 and have seen them through a lot of ups and downs. Lately they've been down, but they do have some talent and actually do have a shot at taking the NFC East. I normally post on a Cowboys board, obviously, but thought I would say hello here. There aren't any Cowboys fans on my regular board who take the Browns lightly, despite you guys not having a good record. There are plenty of reasons why you guys have a chance to win. Joshua Cribbs is amazing and could be a game changer. The Browns also seem good at creating turnovers. The Cowboys have a hugely improved defense over last year with a quality pass rush and a very good defensive backfield. Beware of Brandon Carr. However, the Cowboys O-line is a scrub line that poorly protects Romo. We're starting our third different center in Berneau tomorrow because of injury. He's playing center for the first time in the NFL. He's been on the line, just not at that position, but he hasn't played well. However, Tony Romo is an extremely elusive QB and has quality weapons to go to. Jason Witten is always dangerous, as is Miles Austin. Dez Bryant is a case of hot and cold, but when he gets hot he can make amazing catches.
The Cowboys have an explosive running back that reminds me of Emmitt Smith, but unfortunately Demarco Murray will be sitting on the bench due to injury. The team has shown some sporadic ability to run without him with Felix Jones and rookie Lance Dunbar.
For kicking, the team has Dan Bailey who's been very good, but has missed a few. Special teams has screwed up some, allowing a blocked punt verses Seattle. Last week, however, against the Eagles, Dwyayne Harris returned a punt for a TD. That was great to see since the Cowboys hadn't done that in a while.
All in all, the Cowboys are a 4 and 5 team trying to get to .500 and are 1 game behind the Giants in the NFC East. They've had some good games and they've had some major screwups in turnovers in some games. In other games they haven't turned it over and have played well. They came within inches of beating the Falcons. They beat the Giants once and came within inches of beating them in the next game. IMO if the Browns find a way to exploit the Cowboys' weak o-line and create turnovers, they'll likely win. I'm hoping for my team to have one of their non-turnover games.
This game could go either way. If any Cowboys player doesn't take the Browns seriously, I'm going to be pissed.
I've always felt somewhat indebted to the Browns for developing Bernie Kosar and then letting him go. He was the Cowboys backup QB when they won Super Bowl 28. He wasn't just a clipboard guy that year; he was instrumental in getting the team to the Super Bowl. In the NFC Championship, Aikman got knocked out of the game with a concussion and Kosar came in and lead the team to victory over the 49ers. As bizarre as it was Kosar got a Super Bowl ring before John Elway.
Obviously, I won't be rooting for your team tomorrow, but I will be when you play other NFC East teams.
cheers,
Reverend Conehead
