Indy finally learned they needed to protect their #1 QB with good blocking and a running game.
Houston will be an easy out for years to come if they don't do the same, except they'll need an even better RB ( ala Elliott-type) bc Watson is closer to Prescott than he is to Luck in terms of talent...
That first rounder for A.Cooper seems to be paying off for Dallas... surprisingly... probably won't be great for them long-term but it sure changed the dynamic of their offense this year.
Seattle still hasn't realized that R.Wilson needs a great running game beside him to be truly effective.
1) i didnt just use tot d, i also talked about pass and rush D. U can only put so much "context" into yds given up on the ground and in the air. Over the course of 16 games total def is the final word.
2) what metric would u use then? Perhaps how many mean looks or insults were given to the qb across the line pre snap?
DVOA is a much better stat for measuring the overall effectiveness of a defense.
The Browns D finished with a -2.5%, good for 12th in the NFL. In 2017, they ranked 17th.
On the flip side, our O finished ranked 18th, up from dead last in 2017.

The Bills at home...? The Broncos at home...? The Steelers...? Who looked like CRAP on Sunday Night Football?
And don't forget, they got beat pretty bad at Cincy in Week 2.
I'm not saying it's a given we win, but you are seriously giving the Ravens too much credit IMHO. If we can do what the Bengals did then we should win the game.
Compared with Cincy, our offenses are close in yards, we are the better running team, they have scored more points but remember 2 1/2 of our games were with T.Taylor at QB. Baker is averaging over 10 points per quarter since he took over. Also, our D ranks better than Cincy in almost every category. My point is, if they beat them, no reason we can't.
I think our D can force Flacco into making mistakes, much like they did with Ben in week 1. I think our offense can score on them. Much like the last 4 weeks it is just about who makes less mistakes and who can make more plays.

But we are in every game... and we beat the Chiefs Week 9 at home.
Most of us this offseason were just hoping for a competitive team, and thus far that is what we have gotten.

I hate to be premature, but I think we finally found our Franchise QB... now its time for the rest of the team to step up and start believing in themselves. Gotta expect to win games!!
Rules are rules, and it is all about the QB in the NFL. Does anybody really want to watch 2 backups going head-to-head in a primetime late season matchup because the starters got injured?... NO!
These guys are professionals and need to adapt instead of cry.
Do I agree with all of the rules...? No. Do I like all of them?... No. But all 32 teams have to deal with it, so deal with it!
I've gotten tired of all the crying. Especially Clay Matthews, and I respect the kid, but that last penalty he went too high... it was not good form, which led to the penalty.
I don't want my QB to get hurt, so these guys just need to suck it up and play by the rules...
Complaining about CTE, wanting lifelong health benefits, bitching about short careers, and suing the league all while not wanting to play by rules designed to protect themselves is rather hypocritical on the part of the players... just sayin'
So the majority of the ugly is on Tyrod and Zane. Guess that’s why they both won’t play anymore.
QB play, slow starts, and very poor STs. If these 3 are improved, which hopefully Baker (and our new K) can accomplish, then we should see far more Ws than we have been accustomed to seeing.
Hopefully will also help with TOP, which will help the 2nd half D.
Surprisingly, doing ok with penalties and scoring in the red zone.
Getting Ogbah and Kirksey back should really help, and hopefully help our red zone D - which really needs to tighten up...

The unsung hero... Orson Charles (#82) has become the Browns's H-back (TE/FB combo) over the past 2 weeks, especially against the Jets where he played 21 offensive snaps, mostly at FB, and clearly provided Hyde with a boost.
The former 4th round pick out of Georgia by the Bengals in 2012 was converted to FB by none other than... Hue Jackson. After 2 yrs, he got in some trouble, bounced around teams for a couple years and ended up getting signed by the Chiefs in 2017 by none other than... John Dorsey.
He made the roster over Cajuste because of his versatility and Vitale's being sent to IR. So far this year, he has been on the field for more snaps than Duke Johnson and has become a solid ST player.
He will continue to be useful as the season rolls on...
Callaway is listed 2nd, but I'm not sure they trust him with punt returns, especially in the situation we were in last week
Todd Bowles... New York Jets
23-31 in his 4th year. Gave the Browns their first win in almost 2 seasons. That doesn't sit well with New York fans.
He might be done after week 10 when they go into the bye. They got a tough schedule and could realistically be 3-7 at that point, if not worse.
He has to turn it around quick...
If you're not excited about, at least, our defense then you need to reconsider your expectations.
The yardage stats aren't great #21 in tot yds, #22 pass D, #20 run D. However, we are #12 in PPG, #1 in TOs and #1 in TO differential.
Add the context, Saints and Steelers in 2017 were #4 and #8 respectively in PPG and #2 and #3 in total yards, and #9 and #11 in fewest giveaways.
If this D can keep up their performance thus far, and we can get our offense going AT ALL... we are going to be a tough team to beat.
I like our chances tomorrow, but I have a rule against picking the Browns to win, so I will just sit back and hopefully enjoy a good game.
