  • Matt Dumb-as$ Flus... that's why you don't give up 5 yard cushions , to setup 2nd & 2's straight down the field... (my head explodes)

I just saw Sendejo out there…be nervous about that number

Unless Lamar turns into Peyton Fucking Manning, I'm not too worried.    Their offense seems more obsessed with getting that rushing mark, plus they're having trouble slowing down the Colts front.

Annnddd the Ratbirds 100 yard rushing streak  ends. Colts play the "prevent victory" defense.

  • BAL 31-25 Indianapolis just blew it.

It isn't "prevent" it was a very generous cover 2.

Prevent doesn't exist.  That word doesn't exist in a defensive call the way people think.

Even the reliable Nathan Crosby, whom I watched in HS here, fell completely apart on Sunday, until he redeemed himself with the game winner.

  • It appears the Browns aren't going to get help upending the Ravens this season, with the Chiefs and Colts blowing leads to them.

They are going to have to beat them on their own. Hopefully the Browns can be relatively healthy when they meet.

  • The good news the Rats are the most vulnerable 4-1 team I’ve ever seen. The bad news they are 4-1.

The Colts were afraid of getting beat deep due to Lamars uncanny accuracy on passes over 15 yards lol

OK soft coverage to eat clock.

Yeah, the Colts beat the snot out of them for 55 minutes,  and couldn't finish the deal.

Chiefs heading for a  certain game winner and fumble. A 66 yard FG that has about a 5%  chance of being good. They could easily be  2-3.

Not the same Ole Ravens D…and hopefully we’ve learned how to defend Lamar. I hope we can expose the fraud.

Having said that, I don’t know how the Chargers are going to defend the run against the Ravens and I expect Wink to blitz the hell out of Herbert.  So they may go 5-1. Call the Ravens fortunate again for us to soften the Chiefs for them and now the Chargers

    The AFC is WIDE open

And they just happen to be in the AFCN  unfortunately for the BROWNS.

BUT when the season is over it's just W L Ties that count no points for luck or *DONKS* off the goal posts.

An ugly win is still a win........or loss like KC, LAC so far for CLE.   BUT hey still 12 games to go !

Then the defense communicates a series of checks depending on the looks they get - motion, empty, stack, trio, how far certain assignments may carry receivers, assignment swap.  Post snap you can get an under call, a (we called it) bounce ball against deep crossers,  key reads for man-match, etc etc.    Just constant communication for the best defenses.

So pretend you're a defense coordinator and you're calling in a play. Just say "prevent" and let me know how confused your defensive helmet looks trying to give that call to 10 other men.

Is it a 7 or 8 man drop?  What kind of coverage?  What depth?  How do you want the front on a 3 man drop?

"Prevent" is a very vague term that is about as antiquated and inaccurate as 34/43 defense.

  • I'm starting to think we collectively need to come to the realization that Lamar Jackson is very good.

Not prototypical, in some ways flawed, but still, a very good NFL player.

  • Almost threw up watching the end of this game. There goofy looking kicker sucks dick.

Raiders had a good plan.  I saw a film breakdown right after that game.

Gus Bradley charged the mesh point.  The unblocked defender would go right at Lamar forcing him to make a quicker decision (handoff, keep) and it hurried some of his throws too.  They also did a heavy dose of cover three.  Man coverage is the kiss of death against him.  It is assignment football nowadays you see a lack of discipline over the course of game where someone doesn’t do their assignment (trying to make a play outside of their assignment).

That’s a very good description “very good football player” with not much a supporting cast now or even in years past. The Past couple years I thought he runs too much he’s going to get hurt.  He’s been healthy thus far.

He's put that team on his back and just keeps on winning.

I still have my doubts about him long-term, but right now you have to tip your cap to him.

Let's just look at two young quarterbacks in reality land and fantasy land head to head...... it's a good thing I had a good supporting cast.

    4 vs 5 TDs ?    50 vs 48 ?

Thanks for the very technical definition. Many times in practice those types of defenses give up too many yards (and scores) trying to run out the clock.
