hate to say it but mangini's silence = anderson starter

He has already stated that he will make a choice...and that is IT! There will be no rotating. That much he has said.
actually he didn't say that. All he's said is that he's made a decision and that he will talk to both QB's separately and explain his decision to both and why and what went into the decision.
His decision could be anything, frankly. His decision could be to not make a decision. To rotate the QBs. As long as doing such doesn't mess up continuity, I actually kinda like the idea, keeps the opponents on their toes.

Mangini: No timetable to name No. 1 QB

Associated Press
BEREA, Ohio -- Once Eric Mangini picks a starting quarterback, the new Cleveland Browns coach intends to stick with him.
Mangini said Sunday that he will not rotate his QBs, that he has no timetable on picking between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn and that he envisions both players staying on the Browns' roster once the regular season begins.

Mangini, who will spend the bulk of training camp evaluating them, shot down any thought of switching starters on a weekly basis. He also said that once he declares Anderson or Quinn as the No. 1 quarterback, he intends to stay with his choice.
"Once you make that decision and go with that decision, then at that point you're moving forward with that group," Mangini said.
There's a chance the Browns could be approached by other teams looking for a quarterback later this summer, but Mangini also sees both Anderson and Quinn staying with the team for the foreseeable future.
"In my mind, Brady and D.A. will both be here," Mangini said.
Anderson and Quinn are expected to split playing time and practice reps over the next few weeks. The Browns play their first preseason game Aug. 15 in Green Bay.
On Sunday, Anderson appeared to make better passes than Quinn during practice. Mangini said the twosome came into camp in a dead heat for the starting job.

See, statements like this really make me wonder what world some folks are living in. Now I wouldn't be horribly surprised if DA was named starter, as there wasn't a ton of distance between the QBs. Personally I think BQ outplayed DA by a small margin and will be the starter.
But to make a comment that DA outplayed BQ and is the hands down winner... that's a ludicrous statement to make.
it's ludicrous only in your bq love fest world...the world you obviously reside in.

The only thing more ludicrous is that you think Anderson has a future in Cleveland.

He would get brutally booed as a surprise starter. Given a few weeks to get used to the idea? Would've been better. But he needed to knock Quinn out. He lost on points.
I think it would be a paralizing silence until the 1st errant throw or Anderception that would result in tomultuous boos.

blah blah blah...Mangini doesn't give 2 shits what fans think...looking at the body of work,DA is the hands down winner...Quinn sure as hell didn't do any knocking out of his own now did he?

I think it was the 0-2 and 1 int performance that DA had this preseason that clearly made him the winner, not to mention the number of TD drives he led the offense to.

Going into the season I thought it was Brady's to lose. He didn't and DID outplay DA by a good margin. By simply not forcing anything or doing anything stupid the whole time. He takes what the defense gives him and manages. He's the perfect qb for our team right now.

Takes what the defense gives? Apparently that means passing on getting touchdowns any time the opponent is playing their starters. Do you realize the Browns did not score a single TD against their opponents first teamers with Brady at QB? His only successful drives were in later quarters. DA did't do much better, but at least the Browns scored a TD in the first quarter in Detroit and were driving again at the end of the quarter when the drive was handed to Brady.
Statistically BQ outplayed DA in preseason, situationally? That's up to Mangini to decide.

not announcing your staring qb makes zero sense. mangini is trying to avoid the fan backlash and uproar of not starting quinn thats going to happen the second da steps on the field.

I hate to say it but Mangini's silence = Mangini's silence...get very very used to it... in fact expect it on everything.

That series was handed to him on 3rd down at mid field. Derek Bear also threw an INT in the first quarter of deroit.

As I noted on another thread...
Average Drive During Pre Season
Quinn: 40 yards
DA: 29 yards
Over the course of a game, that is 80 yards.
also, Quinn only had 1, yes 1, 3 and out all pre-season.
DA had 3 of them in 9 series.
This may seem small to some who suffer from myopia...but it is the BIGGEST difference. Throwing a TD isn't nearly as important as MOVING THE BALL so a RB can put it in.

I'll have two tickets for sale for the opener if DA is indeed starting....

He had successful drives in all three games and with starters. How 'bout the TD that BE dropped? Sure it doesn't count but that's not BQ's fault. DA's great passes to BE were out of bounds most of the time.
What doesn't show up in the stats is all the nearly intercepted balls DA had, they only show as incompletes, though it's much worse. Quinn didn't have much if any of those either. I love how he uses the screens well and short passes, taking what the defense gives. DA will force a square peg into a round hole every game and usually every drive, and always results in lots of turnovers and punts. With our defense, do you want to keep giving the ball back to the opponents?

"successful" generally means points were scored.

And that one 3 an out that Quinn had, would'nt have happened if Cribbs didn't drop that easy 5 yard pass at the line, that BQ put right in his bread basket on the first down. They still nearly got a first down as it came down to 4th and inches.

.....and taking another step upwards along the "importance" scale
Points per possession:
Quinn 0.91
Anderson 1.44

The Browns were moving, against first teamers. I'm not faulting Quinn for the end of that last drive, football is often a game of momentum and to be thrown in cold in the middle of a drive isn't a good spot to be put in.

Come Sunday, we're all going to be bitching about every other aspect of the team except QB, no matter who they start. Mark my words, we're all going to be here lamenting the run d, pass d, and the lack of a run game on offense.
27-10 Vikings.

Quote me where I've pimped BQ shamelessly.
You won't find one, because I haven't!
I want the best QB to start. Right now I think that BQ is that guy. But I'm not sure and won't know for sure until I see him play in some real games.
So that's why I feel my objective view of things can really say, "what world do you actually live in?"

I think that BQ is the starter.
But just so we are all on the same page, Dropped passes do not count. They are not an excuse. Neither is being young or having a OC that calls passes in a close game in the wind. There are no excuses, good drives don't count. Heck not even wins matter unless they are against over 500 opponents in division.
BQ will start this year, but he gets to be held to the same standard as DA did in his first full season of starting after 3 starts. Against a weak schedule, with a new OC (better by all accounts). He even gets too work with better receivers and OL. And I also seem to recall an argument that the QB makes those around him better and that he can perform even in situations that are not ideal. So saying he has a poor OL or running game will not be a valid argument either.
It is BQ's turn to put up, but he gets no excuses. He needs to win and win period. That is what I have seen demanded from this board of DA and BQ will be held to the same standard. Does not matter if he hits a receiver in the hands. if the receiver drops it is is 0 1 for the QB, period. That is the standard set by this board. He can't be hot and cold, he can't let his performance drop not even for a game in his first year. Weather conditions are not a factor, does not matter if it effects things. Great QBs over come.
BQ has allot of pressure on him this year. He must show that he is a Super Bowl QB as a first year starter with 3 starts under his belt. He should get the whole year to prove it, by dang it prove it he must. The Browns have a better defense than in 2007, a better coaching staff (I have been told that), better receivers and an improved OL. All things point to BQ having a break out year. Allot of pressure on him, oh yea and no Troy Aikman references because that does not matter. He can not show any regression after defenses game plan for him, he can not have a bad game when it matters and he can not have bad games due to weather or drops. There are no excuses, only results matter.
