Going into the season I thought it was Brady's to lose. He didn't and DID outplay DA by a good margin. By simply not forcing anything or doing anything stupid the whole time. He takes what the defense gives him and manages. He's the perfect qb for our team right now.

Takes what the defense gives? Apparently that means passing on getting touchdowns any time the opponent is playing their starters. Do you realize the Browns did not score a single TD against their opponents first teamers with Brady at QB? His only successful drives were in later quarters. DA did't do much better, but at least the Browns scored a TD in the first quarter in Detroit and were driving again at the end of the quarter when the drive was handed to Brady.

Statistically BQ outplayed DA in preseason, situationally? That's up to Mangini to decide.

He had successful drives in all three games and with starters. How 'bout the TD that BE dropped? Sure it doesn't count but that's not BQ's fault. DA's great passes to BE were out of bounds most of the time.

What doesn't show up in the stats is all the nearly intercepted balls DA had, they only show as incompletes, though it's much worse. Quinn didn't have much if any of those either. I love how he uses the screens well and short passes, taking what the defense gives. DA will force a square peg into a round hole every game and usually every drive, and always results in lots of turnovers and punts. With our defense, do you want to keep giving the ball back to the opponents?

That series was handed to him on 3rd down at mid field. Derek Bear also threw an INT in the first quarter of deroit.

    no he didn't.

"successful" generally means points were scored.

that's true BQ fanhood right there.

  • As I noted on another thread...

    Average Drive During Pre Season

    Quinn: 40 yards

    DA: 29 yards

Over the course of a game, that is 80 yards.

also, Quinn only had 1, yes 1, 3 and out all pre-season.

DA had 3 of them in 9 series.

This may seem small to some who suffer from myopia...but it is the BIGGEST difference. Throwing a TD isn't nearly as important as MOVING THE BALL so a RB can put it in.

And that one 3 an out that Quinn had, would'nt have happened if Cribbs didn't drop that easy 5 yard pass at the line, that BQ put right in his bread basket on the first down. They still nearly got a first down as it came down to 4th and inches.

Anderson had a 74 yard TD drive, a 20 yard field goal "drive", a 73 yard field goal drive, and had moved the ball another 29 yards in 3 or 4 plays when Quinn took over. The Browns were moving, against first teamers. I'm not faulting Quinn for the end of that last drive, football is often a game of momentum and to be thrown in cold in the middle of a drive isn't a good spot to be put in.

  • Come Sunday, we're all going to be bitching about every other aspect of the team except QB, no matter who they start. Mark my words, we're all going to be here lamenting the run d, pass d, and the lack of a run game on offense.

See, statements like this really make me wonder what world some folks are living in. Now I wouldn't be horribly surprised if DA was named starter, as there wasn't a ton of distance between the QBs. Personally I think BQ outplayed DA by a small margin and will be the starter.

But to make a comment that DA outplayed BQ and is the hands down winner... that's a ludicrous statement to make.

it's ludicrous only in your bq love fest world...the world you obviously reside in.

Quote me where I've pimped BQ shamelessly.

    You won't find one, because I haven't!

I want the best QB to start. Right now I think that BQ is that guy. But I'm not sure and won't know for sure until I see him play in some real games.

So that's why I feel my objective view of things can really say, "what world do you actually live in?"

  • I think that BQ is the starter.

But just so we are all on the same page, Dropped passes do not count. They are not an excuse. Neither is being young or having a OC that calls passes in a close game in the wind. There are no excuses, good drives don't count. Heck not even wins matter unless they are against over 500 opponents in division.

BQ will start this year, but he gets to be held to the same standard as DA did in his first full season of starting after 3 starts. Against a weak schedule, with a new OC (better by all accounts). He even gets too work with better receivers and OL. And I also seem to recall an argument that the QB makes those around him better and that he can perform even in situations that are not ideal. So saying he has a poor OL or running game will not be a valid argument either.

It is BQ's turn to put up, but he gets no excuses. He needs to win and win period. That is what I have seen demanded from this board of DA and BQ will be held to the same standard. Does not matter if he hits a receiver in the hands. if the receiver drops it is is 0 1 for the QB, period. That is the standard set by this board. He can't be hot and cold, he can't let his performance drop not even for a game in his first year. Weather conditions are not a factor, does not matter if it effects things. Great QBs over come.

BQ has allot of pressure on him this year. He must show that he is a Super Bowl QB as a first year starter with 3 starts under his belt. He should get the whole year to prove it, by dang it prove it he must. The Browns have a better defense than in 2007, a better coaching staff (I have been told that), better receivers and an improved OL. All things point to BQ having a break out year. Allot of pressure on him, oh yea and no Troy Aikman references because that does not matter. He can not show any regression after defenses game plan for him, he can not have a bad game when it matters and he can not have bad games due to weather or drops. There are no excuses, only results matter.

Hate to deny you on that one...but Quinn had 13 pts in 8 tries (1.625) and DA had 16 in 9 tries (1.77)..But on one of DA's...it was with a total of ZERO yards gained after we started the drive on the 20.

Not to mention the missed FG by the Browns on a Quinn drive (43 yarder after a penalty erased the 38 yarder). Otherwise, it was BQ 2.00, DA 1.77.

Just please try and be accurate!

  • I don't know if this idea has been mentioned yet or not,

But do you think that maybe mangini will name both QBs as co-starters? Hear me out for a sec....

Here we have 2 qbs with 2 different styles of play. Perhaps mangini is setting up a two-QB system, similar to how the two-HB system started propping up last season. Teams would swap out the RBs depending on the situation of the game. Maybe mangini is looking to duplicate that with BQ and DA. That way, he would be able to use either QB and their skill sets for any game situation that might pop up. He might have been working both QBs with the 1st team offense so that the offense can feel comfortable with the changes mid-game. I know it sounds pretty foolish, but I still think that the idea is plausible.

That's right, I forgot Quinn had a FG vs the Titans taxi squad. That makes 9 drives though, not 8. You better re-calc.

And we're not counting the possession where DA set up a golden scoring opportunity and Quinn blew it by taking a sack, right?

  • I hope Cribbs takes the first snap in the "Flash package" . . . just to f&%k with the people who have made this such a big deal. Make them wait another few series.

Really, who cares if Manigini announces his starter at this point? What does it accomplish? There's an argument that he should have named a starter going into camp, but I really believe he wanted someone to WIN the locker room before handing over the job. Geez there are rumors of a divided locker room because the Vikings handed the job to Favre.

And what are the chances that we'll see a starter play 16 games, really? We went through Anderson, Quinn, Anderson, Dorsey, Gradkowsi last season.

Root for the guy under center. Either is probably just a bridge . . . hopefully not to nowhere.

  • I wouldnt be suprised if mangini plays musical quarterbacks all season or at least until one guy stands head and shoulder over the other one and the very idea of forcing teams to guess week in and week out who is starting or if a new qb is coming at halftime is intriguing to me and kind of matches what mangini has said all along so it wouldnt really take me by suprise and this concept would give the browns an edge with 2 capable qbs with different strenths...

Really won't take too much then for Quinn to improve that since DA has ZERO of those wins.

20 turnovers per 16 games, every season he has started. That is your reality. That is Derek Anderson the QB. 20 freaking turnovers per season for 2 whole seasons of games.

Nobody has caused the QB situation to get worse in Cleveland more than Derek Anderson. If he was any kind of starting QB Quinn would never have a shot, and never would have been picked in the draft. Anderson beat the equivalent of service academies in the NFL, and when he played good teams he sucked.

Now he can't even take the reigns of the spot again this season. He is a journeyman QB trying to wear starter shoes on a disfunctional franchise. The only reason his ass had a chance as a starter is because this ownership can't find good leaders in the front office. 31 other teams don't give him the shot he has now.

So yeah, the reality of the situation is you're fooking reduced to showing the numbers above as proof DA is the man. That is how shitty he has performed - that you have to show his numbers from the Detroit/Green Bay/Tenn PRESEASON games.

Thats how pathetic you have become, when your guy cannot even beat the QB you love to hate but a large margin. The pressure was on and he failed. Typical DA.
