Baker to Carolina

"Return to form"?
As in 25 TD's, 9 INT's and an offense that places high value on early down runs, ball action and ball control?
Nothing. Because then Baker has shown he is a capable, yet unspectacular starter with limits to his play. Which is pretty much par the course. At such time you then know, you'll compete having him on your team, but only to a certain point.

ahem. Baker never had the #3 deep threat wr in the NFL. Have a nice day anyways.

Here we go again….never had a very good line in front him, one of the best possession WRs in the game or the best backfield in the game either.
Just surround him with All Pros maybe he will play for the league minimum

Let's say that Watson is suspended for the year, isn't allowed in team facilities and can reapply for reinstatement next July.
Then we have to consider that Baker is going to be back for another season. I get that Baker and the FO would have to swallow their pride and get together and work this out... for several reasons.
I get that Baker would feel slighted and disrespected in going all in for Cleveland and repping the City like he did, playing injured the entire season and putting the team ahead of himself, only to be rewarded by the FO trading away it's future for a player that's never played for us and has a shady reputation. But...
But... Baker needs to know that he was rewarded with a 5th year option that the team picked up for 20 Million dollars. That's not chump change, in comparison to Watsons MEGA deal, it's small, but this year- Watson is only getting 1 Mill. So Baker would be the guy the FO needs to hold it down until... but here's the 240 million dollar question;
What do you do if Baker Mayfield returns to form here this year and balls out like he did in the past. What if he's got the Browns knocking on the door of the SuperBowl... or God willing he leads the Browns to the Superbowl and they actually win it. Then Pandora's box fully opens and we have quite the conundrum.
Do you let Baker just walk or... what would be the options then?

Assuming a level of maturity here that Baker doesn’t possess.

You missed the point. See Dutch's response.
The point? I would think the point would be selling your house to buy a Lamborghini and sending your Subaru, that isn't even paid off, to the junkyard and then finding out that the Lamborghini can't be Smog Certified so you can't drive it. Anyway who knows Mayfield may never turn into the elite quarterback that those of us who like him hope him to be eventually. It's still a team sport. But Watson the Texans and Jimmy Haslam are still scumbags.

Elaborate way to make a point.....BTW just curious do you play chess ? That's kind of chess thinking, sort of.
I guess we will never know at least directly if Baker Mayfield will be that polished gem that we hoped he could/would be unless he takes some obscure team all the way.
I'm more interested in what happens to the BROWNS next.
GO BROWNS !
Now, what would be considered as a successful season 10-7 ? 10-6-1 ? 11-6 (64.7%)? Other ?
......revised, 12-5 (70.6%) ? Impossible ? Hmmmm.

NFL Roundup:
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s hearing is over after three days, there is no timetable for a ruling.
Five players ranked by NFL.com as “scariest” quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert.
**********************************************Let's see:Mahomes - star qb, drafted by his team. checkJosh Allen - star qb, drafted by his team, check.Aaron Rodgers - star qb, drafted by his team, check.Lamar Jackson, star qb?, drafted by his team, check.
Justin Herbert, star qb, drafted by his team, check.three first round draft picks for....dammit. what a garbage dump of a mess the browns are in now. -

I can play chess I'm not very good at it and I don't like it. And what was it about that post that had something to do with anything except the Cleveland Browns? Somebody else started talking about blah blah blah quarterback with the blah blah blah rams.
A successful season? We sold our soul for a Super Bowl if we don't get it we got screwed. When it rained at the end of the movie Burt Lancaster got his hundred bucks. The difference? I really like Burt Lancaster.

Well, that's elephants in the room.
...and Watson's Lamborghini not meeting emissions code would be the reason that you might not make the deal. That would've been considered during the research process, though how much weight it was given back then, in comparison to now, is not known. They will Tell you that they were all in complete agreement, yadda yadda, because that's what all executives should do. And HC's too for that matter.
Ya know, I've never liked slippery, cheating, trigger finger Haslam...including what he did to the uni's...but I don't hate him for this move. I see it as an all-out effort to win a SB. A bunch of chips pushed to the middle of the table. Perhaps it goes into Browns Lore as one of the worst trades of all time...worst than Warfield. We'll see.

Does anyone know anybody who actually likes Jimmah H. and his history of bad antics in and out of business ?
And now he's landed on our Cleveland BROWNS oh lucky us.
This last caper of his may go down in the all time bad deals in professional football, for sure in the history of our BROWNS.
I hate to think of "what's next" but somehow we have to just get through this and carry on.
GO BROWNS !

LOL...his son-in-law.
In his defense though, he's not afraid to spend money on the team's needs. Whatever money is needed to bring in players is there. That's quite important.
...and now back to the regularly scheduled Jimmah Hate....(I still hate the new dayglo orange)

Good point about Haslam EXCEPT the move becomes 1 more example of why he'll never get it.
Here's an owner with his hand-selected FO that was incapable of DRAFTING Watson when the Browns held the #1 overall pick in 2017. That would have made Watson way cap friendlier without giving up a trio of 1st round draft picks and more to acquire him. Having said that, Watson has only won 1 playoff game the entire time he's been an elite passer in Houston. His best year of all, the Texans finished with a 4-12 record. Do you REALLY trust Jimmy to be patient that far into a gig regardless of the guaranteed money he's committed? Just 1 calendar year after Cleveland went 11-5 and slapped Pittsburgh upside the head with 48 points in a playoff win (January of 2021) - here he is thinking the ONLY change needed is the QB. Meanwhile there's a guaranteed salary commitment that will change the ability to keep important players that could re-acquaint Watson with the type of talent he only went 4-12 with his last season played in Houston.
While I will agree with you and others that think Watson is a better QB than Baker, he's also capable of going 4-12 with an owner as bad as Haslam. We're all in a tug-of-war about the QBs here when there was a bigger picture promising a very STRONG QB draft in 2023. That would have also honored the 5th year option the FO exercised committed/railroaded themselves to with Baker. If it's the nightmare that people with zero faith in Baker are certain it would be - there would be yet another chance to draft a QB from a very good supply of them. EDIT: As much as I've lost faith in this owner's franchise at drafting the right QB, this actually makes a Jed Clampett moment of striking oil even more possible than the 1st one...
It's conceivable this FO is going to be paying Baker $18.9 million and Watson $1 million without either taking a snap. From an owner that claims he never researched a player more than Watson - that should be a huge concern to fans seeing what is unfolding with Watson. If I'm a 22 year old fan, I would have time to be patient. Since I'm an old crotchety bastard - I've seen this crap before that had the Browns deserving of the last place finish in the AFC North. Here we go again man.
Our biggest enemy has never been or ever will be Baker OR Watson. It's Jimmy Haslam.

Like everyone, I would like to find out soon if Watson is out for the year.......in which case I can call up Jimmy G's agent and ask if Jimmy would like to QB the Browns to a SuperBowl this year.

Me too.
Depending on what minute you are on, he's either getting suspended indefinitely (the word earlier this week) to possibly not getting suspended at all to a very light suspension (what Gross and Mike Florio have suggested might happen) within the last 24 hours.

Watson will play for the Browns in 2022.
And What supply exists in 2023 that we can obtain without mortgaging the future? Alabamas QB that can’t see over the line and will be taken in the top 5? Stroud? Will Levis? All either Not obtainable, unknown or not ready when we have guys in their PRIME right now. How can you advocate burning a year with this roster that’s pretty dang good now? This isn’t 2017. So you package all the picks we gave up to the Texans to instead move up in the draft next offseason and take Bryce Young who could be a good QB in 2024 or 2025 could be a bust too. Meanwhile the window we had with all these guys in their prime closed or is closing fast.
We needed a new kicker and we needed a top WR and probably another year for this defense to gel. Above these needs we absolutely needed a next level QB.

Getting anything for Baker would be a bonus. Just hope we minimize the amount of salary we keep on our books. Could use cap space to add FAs later in the season for a SB run.

Unfortunately somewhat true. The great trade deals might be off the table now it's just like that when the other guys know your hand. Just the way it is in poker or professional football, oh well......
