And he sat out the 2021 season because he was so mentally and emotionally mature?
He sat out the entire 2021 season for the same exact reason Baker would have sat out this season with the Browns.
He had no interest playing for the team he was contracted to play for.

Just think of the possibility of DW wanting to “sit out” on the Browns with that huge contract. He’s done it once, so it’s not out of the realm for him to do it again.
Regardless of who the player is, if you’re under contract and you don’t play…you shouldn’t get paid.

If we made a mistake in that assessment, we would have had leverage, there would have been at least 6-8 teams lined up seeking his services. Teams wouldn't have been waiting for his release

My feeling is Baker had some really good games while "injured", so why did the injurt not bother him in those games?

Yep, being a Broncos fan too, I want to see what he does there.
The conflict inside you must be like Luke vs Darth.

LOL! No conflict at all. I lived in Greeley for 3 years way back when the Broncos used it as their pre-season training camp which was open to the public. My nephew has 6 sets of season tickets, 4 which he sells at profits high enough to make the other two free. Easy to be a fan when Von was there. But he ain't and Garrett is a Browns player for life it appears, so no problem siding with the Browns when they play each other. And not a big disappointing loss if the Broncos win unless the Browns have a great shot at the playoffs at that point. I'm a Browncos fan!?

well, football is a game of matchups. Let's say, sometimes the weak wr group could get open vs one team's secondary, sometimes they couldn't get open much at all. Maybe....some teams don't have great pass rushers and a terrific secondary, with fast lb's who can also cover short range....
maybe....sometimes Stephanski's stupid playcalling screwed up the browns' chances, sometimes didn't.

Baker has never been "average" - ignoring his accomplishments and what he meant to the browns -
just is bs.

Obviously, there were more than just OBJ trying to get away from Baker. But, again, in hindsight, we knew when he wasn't offered a new contract.

it was obj who was trying to get away from the Giants, too. go figure.
obj and his superego brand - hurt the browns a lot with dropped passes.

A top-10 QB heading into the season, Mayfield currently sits at 20th in PFF passing grade, behind the likes of Jared Goff and Ryan Fitzpatrick. His accuracy has fallen off, his big-time throw rate has dropped from 7.7% a season ago to just 3.9% this year and he is at the helm of a Browns offense that just can’t seem to get out of its own way.
Mayfield is undoubtedly struggling this season, significantly more than he did a season ago, but he may be receiving a disproportionate amount of the blame. Though his interceptions have spiked this season (he already has three more than his rookie year with two games to play), his turnover-worthy play rate has barely moved (3.1% to 3.3%). That disparity effectively comes down to bad luck and plays outside of Mayfield’s control. Passes that should not be picked off are being hauled in by the defense at a much higher rate than a season ago.
PFF's Mike Renner detailed precisely what has gone wrong for Mayfield this year in this article, but the point of touching on it in this piece is to articulate that, for all his struggles, Mayfield’s numbers are being made look worse by the receiving corps, of which Beckham is the star member.
The most obvious way that Beckham has been a part of letting Mayfield down is in dropped passes. The way we chart drops, by definition, is that every one of these is a pass that should be caught. That doesn’t mean the ball location is perfect, but it means OBJ should have been able to bring it in and improve both the overall production of the offense and his quarterback’s numbers. Every receiver drops the ball sometimes, but not every receiver can say that he made arguably the greatest catch in NFL history the way Beckham can. This is a person whose
have become a thing of legend. OBJ finds catching a football as easy as you or I find breathing in and out, so he should have one of the lowest drop rates we have ever seen.Larry Fitzgerald has six drops over the last three seasons. OBJ has seven and counting this year alone. It’s already the second-highest total of his career and it gives him a drop rate of 9.5% of catchable targets, which is among the worst 10 wideouts in the NFL."

Why don't these morons who are reporting how Mayfield's teammates disliked him, provide some names ore quotes?
Because they don't have any names or quotes. Tony Grossi wanted to be the 1st media squid to announce Baker was going to fail as soon as he was drafted. Then Baker set the Rookie record with 27 TD passes despite only starting 13 games for a team coming off 0-16 football. And guess how many wins Cleveland had when Baker appeared in his 1st game with a 14 point deficit a few minutes before half? They were 0-1-1 coming off that 0-16 football coming off that 1-15 football. Why people want to ACT like Baker doesn't have it within 1 calendar year of being the starter of an 11-5 playoff team that won a playoff game scoring 48 points ON and AT Pittsburgh. Throwing 26 TD passes to only 8 INTS after what this franchise went through the 2 years before Baker came here has me wondering why everyone thinks if we just replace Baker we're all set.

Why don't these morons who are reporting how Mayfield's teammates disliked him, provide some names ore quotes?...because it's B.S., that's why... OBJ??....who gives a crap about that whiney ass prima dona? He never wanted to come here, and tried every angle to get out. He sure as Hell was no top notch receiver here. I could make a video of easy throws that he just dropped that would be longer than the one he produced. Why would Mayfield continue to throw him the ball, when he drops everything he touches?

San Diego and Cincy couldn't attack and limit the running game. So Baker took a very clear back seat to Chubb, Hunt and DJ. All he had to do were make throws from ball action in windows that were vacated by LB's and DB's coming downhill.
No small coincidence that Mayfield's best games of the season game against 2 of the 3 worst defenses in the NFL at their respective times.
Not so much a knock on Baker, as it would be to point out that when things weren't easy, that's when he was limited by both his eyes and his arm (injury)

Haha "Glory to God" on his bicep...betcha he says that every time a masseuse makes him shoot his wad.

if Mayfield wins the starting job - Cleveland pays 2/3 of his game (opener) check ?

★ One big error in that report it totally misses his not so good 2021 season. The season with Mayfield's zero game winning drives and his injuries.
This throws all of those future projections way off.
Redo the report with his 2021 numbers and then do the accurate comparison. Hint : it will show his numbers are going down not even or up.
interesting numbers -but- throw out the other #1 picks also to be more relevant.
Mayfield is a good not a franchise quarterback in most opinions.

Baker Mayfield is a second tier starting quarterback.
Which puts him squarely at "average" for starting quarterbacks. Comparing his stats to quarterbacks from eras where throwing the ball 30 times in one game was newsworthy is silly.
Might as well compare today's hitters in MLB to hitters from 1911, when one or two pitchers might have topped 90mph with their fastballs.
