  • As has been mentioned before, his kicks look terrible even when he makes them. I see no logical justification for placing our faith in his ability. If we were a team that's building to win in the future, maybe, but we have a fairly small window to get this done.

And that can't be overstated.  It means something.  I understand that the drafted kicker gets more than one season...but shaky kicking has to be evaluated in way that is best for the team....at some point.

And I am sure it will be evaluated.  It just seems like some have already done their evaluations.

I guess I've slipped into that camp.  I don't get to see him at practice, where I'm assuming he looks great, I only see him in games.  And from what his FG kicks look like in games, it doesn't lend itself to having a lot of confidence when that unit trots onto the field.  Our window to win is (RF) now.  And we're going to need to make FG's in order to win.

Hypothetical situation. Say he does get his shit straightened out just good enough to give you the impression that he can be relied on. We're in the AFC championship game and it comes down to the last kick of the game, we're down by one point and he misses. How is that going to look knowing he has a history of missing even the most easiest of kicks and you had ample time to find a replacement. I don't want to see anyone lose their job but the writing is on the wall that he can't be trusted.

    Then he misses the kick.

What happens if we replace York, and whoever we get does the same as your hypothetical?

  • Time to bring in every f'n kicker out there for tryouts before the season starts. York is NOT an NFL level kicker.

  • this guy. it just makes to much sense

i saw his facial expression after the kick. He knew his time was through

  • What everyone should have taken away from todays game is this team has immense talent across the field. The reality is, though, so does the AFC north and the whole division for that matter.

Games are going to be close, and our division is loaded at the kicker position. It will be an absolute failure if York is booting them week one. I don’t give a shit about his potential- this team is ready to win NOW. Let another team be the dudes project.

the way he absolutely shanked the first extra point and acted like the small running into him caused it made my eye twitch. Everything he is doing is broken- time to wipe the slate.

  • The game-winner was blocked.  But it didn't look like that side of the line got an incredible push or anything.  It didn't look like anyone jumped exceptionally high.  IMO, the kick was too low.

Sign West Side Steve. He can kick EPs in his kilt and show everyone his nutsack.

and show off his trump tattoo ? no thanks . lol

Well, that's 9.4 points better than our guy.

On a small sample size, 1-2 kicks can swing those percentage a great deal.  I am not sure that looking at % is the best barometer.

What about looking at the kicks York makes that wobble all over the place, look terrible and just squeeze inside a goal post?

Yeah York, you're pitiful. He has to go. This fucker still has the yips and is a headcase. York will cost us some games if we don't get rid of him.

    Mason Crosby is available.

  • start with this statement..

49'ers 3rd round drafted kicker Michigan's Jake Moody has not been good at kicking anything at 49'ers camp. Now they have none & Robbie Gould didn't want out in San Fran. in the first place, so Gould maybe off any kicker option list shortly sticking in San Fran..

  • Sign of the times we got a five page discussion about our kicker.

I think we have a good team

We'll see next game.  But good teams need to have a good kicker too.  We haven't been able to get that position right in a long time...thus the draft pick.  But it still doesn't seem 'right' yet.  It seems we constantly watch opponent kickers knock 'em through from all over our home field...but we live in fear of FG attempts.

  • The rookie from NO looks good

This situation is like a Major League Baseball Team that has a closer that can't throw strikes when you need him to at the end of the game. It doesn't matter how great your team is or was all game long when the scoreboard reflects - "you're only as good as your last guy."

Since not very many teams draft kickers; it's looking like Berry's ego to be right about his draft decisions in a division that could come down to 1 game or even 1 kick.  I hope the GM's ego to be right about about his draft picks doesn't go down the same square peg round hole path it went with Anthony Schwartz way longer than necessary...

AGAIN, Berry can bring someone in to compete for the starting job - and stash York on the practice squad if/when he loses the competition.  Seems kind of strange this is the only starting position that doesn't need to be won/earned on this team. It wasn't like he ranked with the elite place kickers in the league last year.
