It's the LAW, dumbass. It's kind of hard for the state of NY to do anything about it if it only takes 30 days for them to have rights. Even I agree that's a fucked up law, Ohio it takes 20+ years, BIG DIFFERENCE! The city I live in actually post notices on houses that are vacant. If I see people breaking into vacant homes in my neighborhood, I call the police.

So, exactly how do you tell who is a squatter, and who legit owns the house? Or even if it's an illegal, or a homeless vet? Do you suggest they go door to door checking papers? If a house was vacant for 10 years because the owner died, or just moved, how can you tell if someone moves in that they aren't squatters or illegals?

Titles are registered. Banks know who bought houses. Some folks live in Florida, etc over the winter, and come back in the spring. If they can't speak English, that's a sign.
