Great read MJP. I had forgot all the in's and out's of that draft.
And how Howard Schenellenberger of THE "U" got Bernie from Boardman, Ohio to Miami and won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in his FIRST year after Red-shirting him for one year. ! Slick move followed by the BROWNS' Art Modell and his draft moves.
He knew how to use the Supplimental Draft to get Bernie !

another great Phipps days to go
An argument can be made that he was part of the worst and best trades in Browns history.
The trade to bring him in cost us Paul Warfield, the trade to get rid of him brought us Ozzie Newsome.

An argument can also be made that he totally screwed up the 1972 playoff game in Miami. 9 of 23 with 5 interceptions in a 20-14 loss ?.
Little did I know at the time that this would become kind of "normal" as a Browns fan.

I should say the name "Mike Phipps" in front of my dad and record the look on his face, and post it on here.
It would not be a cheery look.

He definitely had talent & a strong arm, just never lived up to the hype.
