Now that we are in the   Cleveland BROWNS   teen numbers one that I  don't want to see missed   -at-  # 12  Mr Don Cockroft.

Donald Lee Cockroft (born February 6, 1945) is an American former professional football player who was a punter and placekicker for 13 seasons with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He has the third most career points for a Brown behind fellow kickers Phil Dawson (second) and Lou Groza.

Cockroft served as the Browns' primary punter and placekicker for the first nine seasons of his career. In 1977, he dropped punting from his duties and became solely a placekicker. He and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker/punter Dave Green were two of the last NFL players to lead their teams in both punting and kicking in the same season (1976).

He was involved in the January 4, 1981, American Football Conference divisional play-off game versus the Oakland Raiders. Cockroft missed field goals from 47 and 30-yards in the second quarter. The Browns scored a touchdown on a 42-yard interception by Ron Bolton with 6:02 left in the second quarter, but the extra point attempt by Cockroft was blocked. Cleveland would lose the game 14-12, a game which is nicknamed Red Right 88.

Later NFL players to have this dual role were Steve Little of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979, Russell Erxleben of the New Orleans Saints briefly in 1979 and 1980, and Frank Corral for the Los Angeles Rams in 1980 and 1981.

Over his career, which spanned from 1979 to 1995, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the San Francisco 49ers, the ● Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots. As a rookie, he won a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers in Super Bowl XIV. In 1981, Bahr signed with the 49ers, but was.   ● traded to the Cleveland Browns midway through the season, thus missing out on a second Super Bowl ring (the 49ers went on the win the Super Bowl that year). After discovering he had been traded, Bahr left a note on his San Francisco locker stating, "See you in the Super Bowl.      While this did not happen (the Browns went 5–11 in 1981), Bahr did get some retribution against his former team when he kicked a game winning field goal to give the Browns a 15–12 victory over San Francisco in week 11.

    ●  His longest tenure was with the Browns where he played for.  NINE YEARS.   and was cut during the 1990 preseason.     In late September of that season he was picked up by the New York Giants after a repetitious injury to Raul Allegre.  He is best remembered for his performance in the 1990 NFC Championship Game on January 20, 1991, as he set an NFC Championship Game record with five field goals (including a 42-yarder as time expired) to lift the Giants past the 49ers 15–13. He also kicked what would prove to be the decisive field goal in Super Bowl XXV on January 27, 1991, as the Giants beat the Buffalo Bills 20–19, also recording a tackle on the opening kickoff.

Bahr played the final seasons of his career with the New England Patriots. In 1996, rookie kicker Adam Vinatieri beat him out for the starting kicker spot on the team, and he decided to retire after being cut by Patriots during the preseason

Bahr held the record for longest span for a player between Super Bowl victories at 11 years, until Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens went 12 years from Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 to Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

Bahr finished his 17 seasons with 300 of 415 field goals and 522 of 534 extra points. Overall, he scored a total of 1,422 points.

At the time of his retirement, Bahr was the last active NFL player that played for the Steelers in at least one of their four Super Bowl wins in the 1970s. Pagel wasn't the worst.. Or great by any means but a good , serviceable QB with a great personality One thing I miss about the 80's teams.. They had personality and hungout with the locals... My encounters with guys like Ozzie Newsome and Greg Pruitt as a kid in the 70's were memorable... They lived in our part of East Cleveland.. My older brother and I ran into them regularly at the local convenient store all the time.. They were always great to us and gave us autographs and never asked for a single penny...

Coincidentally, his last year in the NFL saw the Steelers return to the Super Bowl that season in Super Bowl XXX, their first Super Bowl appearance since his rookie season.

My fave kicker of all time... He was a badass and not afraid to go all in suicide on ST's.. His brother Chris was decent too!...

In March 2005, Dilfer was traded to the Cleveland Browns where it was hoped he would mentor rookie quarterback Charlie Frye. Naming Dilfer the starting quarterback for the 2005 NFL season, the idea was to work Frye into the lineup under the veteran's tutelage, but a behind-the-scenes dispute with then-offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon resulted in Dilfer's wanting out of Cleveland almost immediately.

In his lone season for the Browns, Dilfer passed for 2,321 yards and 11 touchdowns, throwing 12 interceptions and fumbling 9 times (losing 7 of those). His passer rating was 76.9.

He did however have the highest completion percentage of his career at 59.8 percent. The Browns would fall to   6 - 10  that season.

Thank you Baker for unlocking the Bud Light fridge vs the NY Jets, and enlightening the fans & ownership how Hue was over his head

Too bad it wore out, but he was a part of Browns history that made it fun again. 2018 will always be one of my favorite seasons, even though it was 7-8-1.

    Very fair post.

I have no desire for Baker. He played his role, but reached his emotional ceiling with the Browns.

I'm thankful for his help in reigniting the franchise.

I could have done without him showing up to Training Camp the next season fat and out of shape, and as one Browns front office guy said "It appears he never opened the playbook all off-season" and pretty much torpedoing the 2019 season. The Broncos loss, though, was entertaining, as Baker shaved part of his facial hair off at halftime, then the rest after the game. ?
