There was no chance they were going to bring back a guy who proved as popular as Flacco was. People en masse are not going to start chanting Winston's name if Watson struggles, but I guarantee it would have happened with Flacco, probably as early as today.

I'm also convinced that Flacco would have got sacked 12 times today. Same thing for the guy down in Tampa who couldn't outrun a cop.

I think Watson physically and mentally is damaged goods, and I also think Stefanski has no business trying to run a RPO offense. THIS is an interesting thought moving on, considering how few college QBs take most snaps from under center. There are a lot more Deshaun Watson-types coming out of college now than pocket passing Joe Flaccos. (Who really is a good fit in Stefanskis preferred offense).

Stefanski is a "young" head coach, but IMO has zero feel for the prevalent offense of today.

Stefanski is a young HC. I’ll buy that there may be some square peg/round hole shit with Watson and that it might not ultimately work out, but l think Stefanski will be better off for it and he’s the guy to bet on and invest in and l’ll fight you if you disagree.

Stefanski seems completely baffled in attempting to run an offense that practically every high school can figure out how to run now.

He's a play-action, run kind of heavy, multi-TE at times offensive guy.

The Browns sold their souls on a guy who doesn't fit Stefanski's offense and whose head coach has zero idea how to replicate the offense that does.

I have to  agree with Dutch at this moment, #4 seems lost in himself and I am not sure if Coach Paul Brown could bring him out of his doldrums.

  • Stef like many in the business can call a better game when the offense is on schedule 2nd and 5…third and short. He can even get too cute sometimes borderline stupid on 3rd and short too.  Admittedly I didn’t see the final half but we played right into their hands with third and long. We had a couple huge drops early and then Watson didn’t help himself later.

Now, If we can’t get a consistent run game going this year…this team is in trouble.  Playaction has been and will always be a huge element.

I think Stefanski is proving to the world that #4 isn’t as good as his contract. That kind of money should be for a guy that can run ANY offense.
This regime has bent over backwards to get Watson the players, and coordinators and he still SUCKS.
    HE WON’T THROW THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!

Stefanski got the Browns to the playoffs with Baker and Flacco. Watson, at this point, is NOWHERE NEAR them

  • I’m not hanging this loss solely on DW (even though he contributed).

He was running for his life most of the time, and when he wasn’t overthrowing his target and hit the receiver on the hands…they would drop it.

This pic was the 4th and 4 in the 4th quarter, which he didn’t convert.

That was when I felt the air go out of the game.

    And no…I’m not OBJ’s dad. ?

    IMG_6035.png

  • Coming into today I personally saw this season as a losing one (picked the Browns to go 7-10) due to our lack of talent at QB, our best player (arguably) not being able to play a full season while completely unsure if he will resemble what he once was (if anyone can, it's Nick) as well as a very tough schedule.

^ That being said, it's not going to be easy to watch, but it's one that probably has to happen in order to have the 1/4 billion dollar mistake finally be someone else's problem.

Hopefully I'm just full of shit and don't know what I'm talking about, but I never saw a snap after the midway point of quarter 3 today and have a really bad feeling for what awaits.

  • I just hope the Deshaun Watson trade doesn’t end up looking worse than than the Bryce Young trade. At this point it appears a toss up.

  • Deshaun Watson was absolutely awful today. Mentally he seemed defeated from the first series. And the play calling sucked - why did Stefanski/Dorsey continually dial up plays that take forever to develop with the way the Cowboys pass rush was playing? Short, quick reads and get rid of the ball. They made no adjustments today. But nothing could overcome how terrible Deshaun played. He was a complete bum.

The running game was non-existent too - I hate how Ford dances around with his juke moves and gets tackled instead of running through the open hole for a gain. Oh how we miss Chubb. Special teams gave up a punt return TD. Defense wasn't actually that bad given that our offense played like a Division 2 college team today.

It's a hard knock life for us Browns fans.

This is Stefanski's 5th year and has one playoff win. After what I saw yesterday, he won't be getting one this season either.

The team had no fight in them week 1. In a game they were favored in. That performance was unacceptable.

I realize the Packers lost week 1 also, but they had fight. They will have to have more fight for the next couple weeks without J-Love, but I wouldn't bet against them.

I hope I see marked improvement from the Browns against the Jags. Kevin's seat will start to get quite warm if this season gets away from him.

And by the way, the Browns are my fav team in the AFC. You may think: "Why does this Packers fan care?" I have an emotional investment in the Browns as well.

  • After time to reflect and parse through a few clips here and there, it truly can't be stated how awful Watson was. I don't think it's dramatic in the slightest to already be considering the bench and let someone better suited to run this offense in Winston have the helm. I get the O-Line had a well below average to even bad game. But explain to me how Matt Stafford somehow still gets the job done with an even worse line, Puka out, etc? Because he's actually at a franchise level.

There's no zip on the throws. There's no accuracy on the throws. Hell, the one deep ball to whoever it was literally (and I mean literally) was thrown 10 yards out of bounds with a clean pocket. On top of all of that, the man the mentally broken. You can just see it in his face- he's washed, it's over and everyone knows it.

I don't care it's week one, blah blah blah. Everyone is clinging on to one half of decent football last year to pretend like this isn't an absolute clown car. The fact of the matter is the next month is set up very nicely to take advantage of some wins (Giants, Commanders, and Raiders in particular). Make the right call, it's pretty straight forward.

Yea who cares about his feelings, let the $230M man ride the bench and stop wasting the rest of the talent.

There is just not even one thing that looked positive from QB1 - might as well have Brandon Weeden out there. Zero pocket awareness, zero ability to see the field, zero sense of timing, crap accuracy, crap throw power. I feel like the garbage time dropped bomb to cooper was also destined to go 10 yards out of bounds, but since the hit disturbed the motion it landed in coopers arms by dumb luck. And I don’t recall seeing clips of him on the sidelines watching the surface with coaches and the rest of the QB unit after all the crap drives - they just panned to him standing there looking dumb or rubbing his shoulder.

At least I think the bungles loss is worse, that’s the one positive takeaway from the week.

The Browns are gonna have to make tough decisions or we will begin to witness the mass exodus of games before halftime.. Yeah.. The Browns were stupid enough to guarantee his contract... But at some point... You have to look rationally and admit... This isnt working... And swallow some pride...

  • This start has loooooooong season written all over it. Chubb not on the field. DW looking the worst he ever has. Same arguably goes for Stefanski.

I'm not a betting man, but I would consider putting some money on a teardown and re-build next season.

I think such a significant part of this is that the team knows what "option B" can look like with even someone who can scan the field at a base level. We saw essentially this same unit go crazy with off the couch Joe Flacco, and look markedly better. We saw Jacoby Brissett have this offense scoring almost 24 points per game (which over the last several seasons hovers exactly around a 9-10th place scoring offense).

It's nothing but stupid pride and the shame of the worst contract in NFL history that is keeping this man behind center. If he was a drafted rookie, he'd be riding the pine years ago.

Ugh, fine. We’ll fight then. Meet me behind the Cheesecake Factory after school.

I don’t think we disagree on anything. Stefanski is handicapped with this whole thing and l’m sure if he had his druthers he’d roll with any other QB on the roster than Watson.

But he’s obligated to milk Watson’s chapped titties until it’s very very very clear that nothing good is coming outta them.

Stefanski will be better off because of this challenge. We’re talking about a guy who won coach of the year as many years as not working with a weird patchwork of a QB situation.
