Dream A Little Dream With Me

The Browns Board

I'm putting this out into the universe. With another possible sexual assault case against Watson, there's a chance he could get suspended. If he does, there's a chance the Browns could void the rest of his contract, thus removing us from this albatross. I have zero idea how much of a chance any of this happens, but goddamit, I'm going to dream that the Browns will be able to move on and draft their franchise QB this coming April. I'm going to start by throwing up five quarterbacks that could/should be first rounders, with short scouting reports pulled from various sites and an accompanying highlight video to watch if you are interested. If there's someone you think I missed, tell me who and I'll do one for them.

The problem with this post is that it makes sense..It is a simple, football logic post.

The Browns just don't make decisions this way. There is a philosophy in management, I don't pretend to know what the fuck that is, but it supercedes an logic that we mortals can comprehend.

A normal person would have kept Flacco. Why did we let him go? Because he didn't fit management's philosophy. It didn't matter that he took us to the playoffs, what mattered is that he didn't fit our philosophy.

I imagine this player you highlighted will also not fit the Browns philosophy.

Tom, WTF is wrong with you. Are you catching a bad case of football logic or something? Better go see a doctor.??‍⚕️

  • when will this guy be draft eligible ?

  • Arch Manning is eligible for the draft after next season, which would be his true junior season @syd

well that falls in line with a post i made before, Draft other needs and then find your QB. Of course the Mannings would never let Arch play in Cleveland.

  • I’ll throw in a super random long shot here: Brett Gabbert from Miami.

He’s a six year starter for the Redhawks from a solid football pedigree family, and he led them to a helluva season last year. An actual winning record and everything.

This year’s not going so well so far, but he has some decent career numbers and has a knack for throwing on the run since he’s running for his life a lot of passing plays. And Miami has a knack for cranking out some incredible football minds. Clearly there’s something in the water in Oxford.

I’m guessing he’ll be a udfa unless he kicks it up a notch this year, in which case he might be around in the 6th or 7th round when the Browns pick. I vote we draft him low.

Careful here.  It was Jimmy's plane that intercepted a Manning family tradition of going to Ole Miss when he took Peyton to the University of Tennessee and sold him on their football program.  That sort of paved the way for Arch to go to the University of Texas today.

    LOL me to

  • Jalen Milroe 6'2, 220lbs, Alabama

Redshirt Junior is a very good athlete with a strong but unrefined arm. Solidly built, he's an incredibly tough and solidly built competitor who is willing to sell out for crucial gains. (This can be a positive AND a negative in the NFL, as we have seen with recent Browns QBs) Can make throws from various arm angles, but still a work in progress in passing game. His mechanics, field vision and anticipation all are valid questions at this point. (Pro Football Network)

  • Garrett Nussmeier 6'2, 200lbs, LSU

Here's a real dark horse QB prospect for the Browns as of today, but by the beginning of next year could rocket up draft boards. Redshirt Junior with a live arm, good pocket footwork and a repeatable throwing motion. Backed up first round pick Jayden Daniels for last two seasons, playing sparingly in relief. Made his first LSU start vs Wisconsin in the Tiger's bowl game last season, throwing for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns vs 1 interception in a comeback victory, as Daniels opted to not play. Operates well from the pocket and does most of his work there. Lack of experience is an obvious weakness as of today, but by the end of the season could be a name we hear a lot of if he declares for the draft.

  • Thanks for accumulating this list @dutch-oven. I follow teams more than players and the portal has made that a bit of a nightmare as I recognize the names you've posted, just couldn't necessarily generate them on my own.

The sooner the Browns start looking for a QB, the less pressure will be on them to find a QB. I am not educated enough to say, of the QBs you've listed, who will or will not be good NFL QBs, my concern lies in what comes up in nearly every QB topic on this board: does the QB's skills fit Stefanski's offense?

I'm not ready to start over with another rookie QB-new HC combo.

But I am a strong proponent of the Browns beginning the search for their next QB1.

  • So what's the issue with baby Sanders anyway? I think he definitely has the NFL arm talent.

Yeah, we weren't used to seeing that from him.

I have not watched both games so I would love to be corrected. Amari Cooper looks disenfranchised. I have seen the plays in the last two games where the football has hit him in the hands and he didn't make the catch. I also noticed in the highlights that it seems like he's not sprinting on his routes.

Maybe it's me. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe it's Deshaun Watson, but (2 games in) he doesn't look like the Amari Cooper I'm used to seeing.

Some of these young guys come from great programs surrounded with great talent dating back as far as high school. For example, Bryce Young started at Cathedral High School before a power house program at Mater Dei High School recruited him away. Then he went to Alabama so he could be drafted 1st overall by the Carolina Panthers and...

Jimmy is not going to be one that admits he made a mistake here; so unless divine intervention plays lifeguard here - I'm gonna hold off on wasting time all the QB draft prospects stuff.  I'm 60 years old so I've done all that countless times. Keep in mind, this entire organization is still trying to find the right playbook for Watson was we speak in year #3. The easiest question to ask before making a decision on a QB is WHY do you want him?  What makes him your gotta have?  Then you put the things in place that enables all that.

I'm sensing some disappointment from him toward the front office in terms of the FO only thinking "you're this age and sorry pal this is the best we in this league do for vets in your situation. We know it stinks..."  Okay, this is a 2 way street. What from that would stop Amari from thinking why should I put it on the line in traffic if they're right and nobody wants a guy next year that gets injured willing to catch the ball in traffic this year for a team I only have 3-4 months left with? Almost makes me wonder what's in store from a guy that has otherwise been pretty much the ultimate professional here before 2024.  Am I off-base here?  I could be.  We'll see...

I think we would have to track Cooper on every pass play to see if he has been getting open, but DW just does not throw it there with a few exceptions. Just maybe he gets tired of being open and left to have the ball thrown elsewhere or just not thrown at all. If I were a receiver of his caliber, I'd be plenty discouraged if that were the case. Let's see if that is or is not the case or if in meetings AC gets listened to by staff & DW to set things on a better path for all concerned. I'd certainly be voicing it to the Receivers coach and QB coach as well as DW in person.
