The Browns Board

  • I really wouldn't be upset with the Browns adding another Ohio State DTackle in the upcoming draft to go with Mike Hall in either Tyleik Williams or Ty Hamilton.

Warren is an excellent player and I'd love to have him, I just don't think the Browns are going to trade down all the way into the teens and take him. I like him more than Loveland, but he's an excellent TE too. Ohio State just got them a great TE prospect in the transfer portal from Purdue - he could be a high pick next draft.

The Browns could take a QB if they end up with a top 3 pick - when a team is paying one QB a ton of money the easy way to save on the position is to draft one.

Another guy to watch in this Texas/Arizona State game is LT Kelvin Banks Jr, a first round prospect. Might be able to drop down a little and grab him.

Speaking of bowl games, just announced that the Georgia/Notre Dame game tonight has been postponed due to the truck attack on Bourbon Street that left ten dead.

Agreed!  Man, I couldn't believe waking up to that news about 10 murdered and 35 injured.  These are crazy times...

Just awful!  They're gonna try to play the game at 4:00pm ET today. Fingers crossed for a good game and keeping everyone safe in attendance...

I'm not so sure this guy is what people think.

To be fair, his OLine is dogshit.

If he wants to be drafted 1st or 2nd overall, he better get used to it.  Brock Purdy went to a team with a good offensive line and the growing pains were minimal considering he was the last pick of the draft.  Believe it or not (and this is often forgotten), when you have a great defense consistently stopping the opponent like SF did - it gave a young, inexperienced QB like Purdy a forgivable margin of error to work with that bad teams/organizations don't provide young QBs like Bryce Young and Caleb Williams with.  Both kids looked pretty culture shocked as rookies.

Sometimes, it's not just the OL - it's the organization and the coaching staff as well.   The Buffalo Bills were a classic example of how to develop a young QB - even through inevitable growing pains.  Most recently, they upgraded their OC from Ken Dorsey to Joe Brady.  Result?  He's now one of the leading candidates for MVP especially now that his INT volume decreased significantly this year.  If one looked at their line-up heading into this year - there were no superstar WRs on the perimeter there.  They didn't even get Cooper until about midway through the season; and he's missed games to injury there after after he arrived.

This may be one of the drafts that a mid-late round QB ends up having more success than either of the 1st 2 off the board. That said, it will probably be by an organization that knows what it's doing.

    Oh ye of little faith.?

  • I love the idea of investing 1st round draft capital in the TE position while

    - The Browns have the 7th highest paid player at the position group already on roster

    - Of all TE's currently in the top 15 between catches, total yards and TD's...  only 2 were drafted in the 1st round.

Anyhizzle, back to QB's and OT's.

Thank you.  A 1st round TE with Njoku on the roster would be a luxury pick.  We're in no position to be doing that.

A TE in the first 20 or so picks feels like a move a team that needs a piece on offense to make it more dynamic, not a move by a team that needs to rebuild the roster

Because that's exactly what it is, a luxury.  One the Browns sadly don't have the capital and roster flexibility to spend on.

Not doubting Warren's talent, only saying that it's about the opposite of sensible when you have such clear cut issues along the Oline, QB and running game.

And DLine, inside and outside. Linebacker too, but not in first round

If we plan on parting with Myles then we'll certainly need to replace him.   - I know this isn't the way of the NFL world anymore...but I HATE losing a HOF Cleveland Brown.  I'm sorry, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Even if he stays, he needs the Browns to FINALLY get him a young edge player opposite of him that actually gets the attention of opposing offenses. Also, he just finished his eight season in the NFL. He needs an eventual successor too.

True, that is why I mentioned trading Njoku to add picks, or a pick, in my stupid mock draft....for next year. Njoku isn't anywhere near the TE that Warren will be. What would Njoku bring in a trade? a good bit more than a few years ago....

Even if Njoku is gone, which i hope he is, we can get good tight ends without spending a 1st rounder on one.

Agreed...but why do you wish he is gone?  Injured too often?

  • Man, we really do have a chance at the #1 overall pick.

New England is playing Buffalo, who will be sitting a lot of their starters. Josh Allen is expected to only play the opening series.

Tennessee is playing Houston, who also is sitting a lot of their starters, and the Titans are actually favored to win.

We all know the Browns aren't beating the Ravens, who need to win.

Injury is a part, but that is unpredictable...usually.

We are in a rebuild mode.  Joke makes a lot of money.  I think we can replace his production with a drafted player. This draft has several very good prospects.  Harold Fannin, Gunner Helm, Tyler Warren and several others all look to be fine prospects we can get stating in rounds 2-3.  Even Akins, if given similar target numbers could come close to Njoku production.

I don't know what we might be able to get in trade for the guy.  Given the young talent in the draft, probably no better than a 4th-5th rounder.  We might get better value trying to seek a player for player deal.

Without further adieu, let's pretend we end up with the 1st overall pick - who is it?  Highest projected best LT or QB? I'll give some stuff to chew on so take your Tums and then I'll let you know who I'm leaning toward first. Yes, I still need my day job and my meds...

I don't think anyone wants a TE there based on what I'm reading. In defense of the defenseless, any such mention of that would be in a trade-back scenario adding 1st and/or 2nd round picks. If someone wants to tell me Tom Brady never needed or wanted Gronk (not a 1st round TE but in hindsight 20/20 we'd all take him over Njoku) - he changes the ability for defenses to matchup big time. Warren WILL BE an ideal 1st round TE for someone that doesn't have bigger pressing needs at more important positions. Anyway, I want a LT and I don't think anyone has outwhined me about that.  It's a pressing need.  If we trade back - we can still add a very promising LT IMO.  In doing so, we can look at all the QBs not rated as high as Sanders and Ward we can develop.  Not too long ago the Redskins drafted RG3 in round 1 and Kirk Cousins in round 4 - who had the much better career?

Keep in mind, in the most recent draft - the best QB/best earliest impact QB wasn't the 1st one drafted by a horrible FO.  Am I fair with that statement?  Also, Bo Nix wasn't the 1st or 2nd QB drafted and neither was Drake Maye. Shedeur Sanders only played 2 years against major DI college football competition.  In 2023, feel free to take a look at how he looked against Oregon and in other losses.  He'd probably feel like he's right back in that matchup if we add him with what we've been counting on at LT and an aging and worn and torn OL.

This FO just threw all their marbles into their choice of a franchise QB and the one they threw away is playing the best football of his career for a much better organization that has everything in place for success from their QB position.  Tampa Bay also has a much better LT frequenting Pro Bowls after frequenting them at RT.  LT or QB is what we're counting on them for.  If they're not drafting 1st, do we REALLY want this FO trading up again?  If they're not trading back, I want the best LT in the draft.  I'm leaning toward Kelvin Banks Jr but I want to see how he responds to the challenge of facing JT Tuimoloau before I finalize that.

  • It'll be hard for any rookie QB to do well on this team. However we saw a semi competent QB (Winston) put up massive yards with this crew.

With #1 I'm drafting a QB. Finding a franchise QB is hard. I'd argue that landing a QB later in the draft is more an exception than the rule. However the rule sucks because the likelihood of that QB panning out is still low.

Bo Nix was still drafted in the first round - pick 12

I was trying to find a list of starting QBs and their draft round. I found this page which has all QBs. But what you'll notice is a lot of QBs starting were drafted 1st round.

    https://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/positions/qb

Totally wild ass guess but the odds of your 1st round qb being a hit are something like 30%?  After the first round the percentage falls of a cliff! It's those few randos you hear about that make it.

All this jabbering nonsense to say, QB is the most important position in sports. We've been looking for one since 99. We have to get one.

Ward or Sanders for me. Ward constantly kept Miami in games and came through in the big moments. If they had a halfway decent defense they'd likely have made the playoffs.
