Currently our 2025 first round pick is....

By 4:30pm on Sunday (tomorrow) we will know what draft pick we have.
If we get into position to draft one of the top two QB's in the draft, Why would we not draft one?
You CAN say that you think that Watson is the answer to our QB position going forward. But I don't think that anyone will say that.
DON'T say because we have other needs! There is no greater need in any of the major sports than the NFL QB.
DON'T say because he'll get beat to crap because we won't have enough draft capitol to fix the OL and running game while he's trying to learn the NFL speed / game. We have Watson that we could throw out there to the wolves while the new QB soaks the stuff in. (or a different veteran QB that we might round out the QB room with. And because there IS free agency to help the OL)
You CAN say that neither of the top 2 QB's will be any good in the NFL. (or the one that we CAN get won't be any good) - But you had better be right. Because if those two go on to have good careers, and you passed them up, then your negligence is as bad as the Watson trade - unless you found THE GEM in a later round (but I wouldn't bet my GM job on that).
Bailey Crappee, DTR and Winston certainly won't be the answer...and I doubt any of you think that Watson will be.
Just sayin'. We need a QB first and foremost.

Just because we need a QB doesn’t mean we force the issue, Orion.
If they really like one of them, go for it. I just do not think either are guys that justify being such high picks. The list of QBs drafted way too high and flaming out is a loooooong one, and I’d rather the Browns not add to it.
-
If we get #2, what's that mean?
Does NE automatically take a QB or trade back?
Does it just mean we lose trade status with someone looking for a QB?
Any chance NE stays at #1 and picks someone different that doesn't affect us?
Whatever the case, I trust this FO to make the best choice. ?

You take Ward if he's there. Kid is athletic, big arm, a variety of throws, and has some through for his team when needed. Sure he had to play hero ball but if you had Miami's defense you need to.

That puts you in the You Better Be Right category.

Does NE automatically take a QB or trade back? Trade back. Giants, Raiders, Titans, etc. will knock on their door. They have Drake Maye and need a lot. They would trade out.
Does it just mean we lose trade status with someone looking for a QB? I wouldn't entertain trading out when we need one as bad as they do.
Any chance NE stays at #1 and picks someone different that doesn't affect us? The odd of them staying put and drafting is not zero...but I think less than 1% chance.
Whatever the case, I trust this FO to make the best choice. ? LOL
We need a QB. We have to swing the bat.

So are you putting yourself in the You Better Be Right category? In that you don't think that either of the top 2 QB's are worth drafting if you're picking #1 or 2?
I think "worth" is subjective in this case when you take multiple things into consideration.
The biggest of those being the baggage and circus that comes with my #1 QB (Sanders) It's bad enough and only speaks to how hilariously in flames it could go up in Cleveland... that proverbial "How did they NOT see this coming?".
Right now the name being floated most for #2 QB is Cam Ward and he isn't as consistent as my #2 QB from last season (Maye)
It's early in my charting, but I'm weighing current value vs historic value. Need is a terrible evaluator of talent and for every draft like 2024 that may include multiple hits, you have 5 more drafts that include multiple 1st round busts.
My argument is simply this - if you're not in love with the game you see, no, you don't *HAVE* to take a QB just because you need to address the position. That's a fool's errand.

You are the current GM of the Browns. The whole football world has watched us this season (including Haslem). You're picking 1st or 2nd and you don't pick a QB. (pick a different position or trade out) IMO, you've put your head on the chopping block and you're praying to God that those two QB's suck...or somehow you come up with one (out of your ass, or elsewhere) that can throw touchdown passes to get your team to credibility the following season. Your job is on the line here, so, You Better Be Right. The LT, Edge, whatever you draft cannot throw touchdown passes.

Again, it's a fairly straight forward answer. When you remove the 'need'... is the QB you're evaluating checking the boxes and hitting the marks you look for. No? Then I don't care how great my need is, I'm not pulling the trigger as the GM of the Browns on a QB whose game I'm simply not loving. Regardless of the chopping block.
Imagine had the Vikings not taken a highly suspect Christian Ponder and instead any of the 3 pro-bowlers that were drafted immediately after him on the defensive side?
There were 5 pro-bowlers in the next 8 picks after the Browns took a damn-near 30 year old Brandon Weeden.
What if the Brownies held tight at #26, took Bito there, then dipped into the WR pool for Hoyer at #35 and went after Allen Robinson or Davante' Adams? You probably get a better late season shot at that wild card. And you don't sink the team the next season by saddling them with a QB who shouldn't have been on roster, let alone prepared to play at an NFL level and lead.
Sure, you didn't "address" the QB position in these scenarios like the fans and ownership wanted. But you still took a player that ended up being a multi-year high level starter and didn't waste precious draft capital. It's something I've recently warned a friend about in his personal life, doing what everyday people do - creating failed personal relationships by attempting to fill a role (husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend) simply because they feel they want or 'need' one, with a person who really isn't a match.
Football is funny like life, which is why you hear evaluators say "In love with *insert player here's* game" It's a lot like that. You don't say "She's nice, I'll marry here because I need a wife". You build your life, find the person, THEN you fill the role.
If the QB doesn't speak to your heart, eyes and mind, you don't draft him.

Again, you are then saying that neither of the top 2 QB's are worth drafting at the top of the draft. So you're in the You Better Be Right category. - Obviously, there's a lot of time between now and draft day. A lot of evaluations. Pro days. Meeting players perhaps. We can be pretty sure that neither will do anything at the combine...because the top draft picks don't do that anymore.
I'm just saying that if you're picking #1 or #2....and there are 2 QB's that the general consensus says will go in the top 3 or 4 picks, and you're QB room just plain sucks like ours....and you don't pick one of 'em because YOU say they're not worthy to be picked...then You Better Be Right. Because without a decent QB your team isn't going to do too well. As we've witnessed.
Now, this girl that nice that you speak of...can she cook?

And with a rookie QB having the support that any QB had on this team this year, they won't do well either and you'll like rush and/or hinder their development. Because in the modern NFL, we can't tell these fans, GM's and owners to shut up and be patient.
Mine's a baker, she loves the holidays especially for such things with her family. It's dangerous because I'm not the type that just likes gaining 5lbs, but it's pretty easy with delicious stuff ?

So apparently top 3 is guaranteed, which a chance at #1.
Is my gut telling me that we will find a way to screw this up, all part of being a Brownie?

Hard to believe that Sanders and Ward are worse QBs than what we have. I think both have very high ceilings. Outside of that it's a bigger gamble. QB is the most important position and obviously our biggest need.
The amount of rookies that play in their rookie season nd do well continues to rise. The NFL is changing and while it may not be easier to be a QB it's certainly less dangerous with the provided protection.
I don't see how we could pass up a guy like Ward. I'd say keep Winston for a mentor and as someone who can help build positivity and culture.
To me these 2 QBs are worth an early pick from teams who have 0 talent at QB.

To Flugels post on Qbs. I have been talking about Dart for a good while. I think he can be a pretty darn good NFL QB. I'd take him over Sanders. Sanders is 40% HYPE.

Thanks for sharing that! I can see why you feel that way. Like any promising prospect - they're at the mercy of what type of organization or disorganization takes them.
I haven't been wild about our QB choices at the apex of this draft. Sanders plays in a weak conference well guarded by his dad after playing for a much smaller DI school for his dad. Anyway, the 1st couple times I saw him in 2023 - it was kind of fun before he was battle tested by Oregon. That didn't go well for him or his dad at all. They looked like a Division III football program needing much better pass protection and run blocking; while the defense also got trampled giving him 0 margin of error to compete with. He blended in with stench just like Sam Darnold has had to as well as Baker Mayfield as recently as their Carolina experience. Same with Bruce Young. The difference? Mayfield, Darnold and Young never got coddled by their dad all the way up until the day they were drafted. Sanders seems like a good kid with potential - but I'm not sure.
I've started to think we should trade back a few places in round 1 so we can add a high round pick or 2 even a LT before we add the QB. 1 guy I thought of is 2 year starter Kyle McCord in a mid round that broke the single season ACC passing record per ESPN ...2024 season stats. YDS. 4,779. TD. 34. INT. 12. QBR. 78.6. His completion % was only 66%; BUT this is for Syracuse that won 10 games for the 1st time since Dwight Freeney played there many moons ago. BTW, he erased a deficit and won a shootout with Miami's Cam Ward. All that said in a 13 game season that had 12 INTs - 5 of those were in 1 game with a few pick 6s against Pitt. I listened to the commentary of former Colorado QB Joel Klatt when Syracuse recently beat GA Tech. He said Syracuse Receivers don't get much/if an separation on their go routes so Kyle and his WR Corps do a great job utilizing the back shoulder throws (completing a high %); and he said Pitt scouted that really well. This is just 1 idea from me that if we went the early mid-round route. Another QB that hasn't played his best football yet is Will Howard that may be a good QB for somebody with enough patience like Minnesota had this year looking to Darnold until their rookie 1st round QB was ready. Obviously, it doesn't have to be McCord.
No matter what we do; if we stick with the current OL - there's no chance for any success at QB. LT is a glaring need and must have. It'll be interesting to see our draft position after today.

You want the Browns to waste a top 3 pick on guys "that should be better than the crap we have now?"
That sounds like a recipe for success.

Yeah because 1 OL will really make a difference with a team that can't score more than 10 points.
Who saying it's a waste to draft either of these 2 QBs? They both seem pretty talented. You're not going to find Andrew Luck in every draft.
I'm saying it's an immediate upgrade in a position that is the most important to the team.
You know what else a QB pick brings? Eyeballs. Who wants to watch this team after they draft another lineman to block for shit QB play? At least it will be entertaining for a bit to see how one of these guys plays.

It's laughable to think of Deion Sanders and his kid on the Cleveland Browns. It would be a complete clusterfuck. I don't hate Ward, I just think it's a big stretch for him to get drafted in the top 3 picks.
And apparently you'd throw him immediately on the field too. If you think he's worth a top 3 pick because he's talented enough, then I get why you want the Browns to draft him. I do not think he's worth that high of a pick, so I don't. I also question if he is a good fit with Stefanski, and since it appears he's sticking around, this matters to me too.
And I do not care at all about making this team "entertaining". Winning is entertaining, and this team isn't one offseason away from being a consistent winner. Reaching for a QB (IMO) isn't a good way to start the process.

This was exactly why Haslam drafted Manziel. It drew a ton of eyes, more season ticket sales, media hype and attention.
We know the end result.
Substance and function over style and form.

I knew someone would bring this clown up after I posted that. Manziel was a total reach and everyone knew it. Manziel was typical Haslam meddling with the team.
Ward and Sanders are consensus top 2 QB picks - Manziel was not. I'm not sure how you don't see either of these 2 QBs are substance over form.
The draft is about improving at positions of need. Ward and Sanders immediately improve the position of need.
I get it if people don't think they're worth it at the pick number.
In the end I don't trust out FO to make the right choice.
