Dutch's 2024 Browns Questions - THE RESULTS!

The Browns Board

  • 7. How many games are started at QB by people not named Deshaun Watson in 2024?

    Bob806: 2
    DBone: 10
    SDBacker80: 4
    Flugel: 2
    AP1: 10
    syd: 2
    Ibleedbrown: 3
    DutchOven: 7
    mjp28: 3

Answer: Watson - coming off a throwing shoulder injury that ended his season in 2023 prematurely - was only able to make 7 starts in 2024 before suffering a season-ending Achilles tear. In the 10 other games, Jameis Winston started 7, Dorian Thompson-Robinson 2 and Bailey Zappe 1.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: While no one thought he was going to go all Iron Horse and start all the games, a few of us had doubts he'd play most of them. DBone and AP1 nailed this one.

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... Bob806, Flugel and syd all ended up being wildly optimistic in what will end up being Watson's last season as the Browns starting QB. He reinjured his Achilles this off-season, resulting in another surgery, pretty much guaranteeing he won't sniff the field in 2025.

In fairness, we needed to give MJP a break from having our backs throughout these terrifying results.

    8. Who leads the Browns in rushing in 2024? How many yards?

    Bob806: Ford, 1067
    DBone: Ford, 1005
    SDBacker80: Ford, 887
    Flugel: Ford, 925
    AP1: Ford, 1050
    syd: Ford, 756
    Ibleedbrown: Strong, 1320
    DutchOven: Chubb, 850
    mjp28: Ford, 1235

Answer: Jerome Ford lead the Browns in rushing with 565 yards. Other notables were Nick Chubb (332 yards), D'Onta Foreman (232) and Pierre Strong (108).

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: It was RB by committee in 2024 for the Browns, but I admit, I was kind of shocked to find out that Ford had a prime Nick Chubb average per carry (5.4). With virtually the same amount of rushes as Chubb, Ford rushed for 200+ more yards as Chubb post-knee surgery. Most of us predicted Ford leading the team, but were way optimistic on the yardage. syd wins this question.

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... Many thanks to Ibleedbrown for saving me from winning this dubious award! Pierre Strong was a bold choice, and Ibleedbrown is a bold man!

    9. Who leads the Browns in 2024 in receptions? How many?

    Bob806: Cooper, 75
    DBone: Cooper, 79
    SDBacker: Njoku, 72
    Flugel: Cooper, 75
    AP1: Cooper, 85
    syd: Cooper, 90
    Ibleedbrown: Thrash, 66
    DutchOven: Cooper, 80
    mjp28: Cooper, 85

Answer: Newcomer Jerry Jeudy lead the Browns with 90 receptions.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: Browns GM Andrew Berry might not knock your socks off drafting, but the guy can trade for veteran WRs with the best of them. A few years ago he practically stole Amari Cooper from the Cowboys in what was basically a salary dump, in the off-season prior to the 2024 season he made another shrewd move by trading for Jerry Jeudy of the Broncos. Berry wasn't planning on extending Cooper, so he just gave Jeudy an extension and traded Cooper for a third round pick from Buffalo during the season, after Cooper played with all the enthusiasm of a wet sock for the Browns. Nary a soul pegged Jeudy as the leading receiver, so no winner for this category, ONE YEAR!

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... Now, a person might say all the people who picked Cooper were big dummies, but I think there's one predictor, a rather bold young lad who rose above all to grab this award with panache - Ibleedbrown with his selection of Jamari Thrash, who had all of 3 receptions!

Yep, that’s the answer l remember that l knew would flay me. Holy hell.

Jamari Thrash is a badass name. I wish my name was Jamari Thrash. I was actually pretty confident that Jamari Thrash would be a solid out-of-the box choice for this question. Did anyone catch fewer passes than Jamari Thrash last year?

I’m gonna double up. Jamari Thrash is going to throw down the gauntlet this year. He’s gonna break necks turning heads. Look out for Jamari Thrash in 2025.

    10. Who finishes second in receptions for the Browns in 2024? How many?

    Bob806: Njoku, 68
    DBone: Njoku, 74
    SDBacker80: Tillman, 59
    Flugel: Njoku, 73
    AP1: Njoku, 70
    syd: Njoku, 68
    Ibleedbrown: Njoku, 64
    DutchOven: Jeudy, 70
    mjp28: Njoku, 75

Answer: David Njoku finished second to Jerry Jeudy with 64 receptions. Other notables were Elijah Moore (61 receptions), Jordan Akins (40), Cedric Tillman (29) and Amari Cooper (24).

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: The Chief was a popular choice, as he's become one of the better tight ends in the NFL. It's hard to believe he's been with the Browns for eight seasons now, and he's now #3 in team history in receptions, behind Dante Lavelli (including AAFC totals) and Ozzie Newsome. Seven posters chose Njoku, but Ibleedbrown nailed it on the head!

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... Jerry Jeudy actually did better than the 70 receptions I predicted, so I'll give myself a pass... I hesitate to give hang this shame on SDBacker80, because if not for a concussion that sidelined Cedric Tillman for the last handful of games he probably would have ended up close to his prediction. No big dummy on this one.

    11. How many sacks combined do Myles Garrett and Za'Darius Smith have in 2024?

    Bob806: 22
    DBone: 22.5
    SDBacker80: 21
    Flugel: 20
    AP1: 26
    syd: 24
    Ibleedbrown: 22
    DutchOven: 20
    mjp28: 33

Answer: Garrett and Smith combined for 19 sacks for the Browns.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: Smith was another veteran traded prior to the trade deadline when it became obvious the season was lost, or the combined total would have been higher. Garrett had 14 sacks in yet another Pro-Bowl year for him, Smith added 5. Flugel and DutchOven share the sweet taste of victory.

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... If you add Smith's 4 sacks he had in Detroit, the total would have been 23 for the season between the two DEnds. That still makes mjp's prediction on the very optimistic side.

    12. Browns record vs AFC North rivals?

    Bob806: 3-2-1
    DBone: 2-4
    SDBacker80: 3-3
    Flugel: 3-3
    AP1: 5-1
    syd: 4-2
    Ibleedbrown: 3-3
    DutchOven: 2-4
    mjp28: 4-2

Answer: The Browns went 2-4 vs their AFC North rivals.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: The highlights of this miserable season were the home wins vs Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the second a Thursday night game played in blizzard-like conditions. DBone and DutchOven for the win.

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... AP1 was going for the gusto with his predictions for the Browns this season!

    13. What two teams play in the Super Bowl? Who wins?

    Bob806: Cleveland over Atlanta
DBone: San Francisco over Kansas City
    SDBacker80: San Francisco over Houston
    Flugel: Kansas City over Detroit
    AP1: Cleveland over Detroit
    syd: Cleveland over San Francisco
    Ibleedbrown: Buffalo over Chicago
DutchOven: Kansas City over San Francisco
    mjp28: Cleveland over San Francisco

Answer: The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 to win Super Bowl 59.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: Not a soul predicted the Eagles to play in the Super Bowl, while one did accurately predict Kansas City losing it. No winner for this category.

And the 'Big Dummy Award' goes to... An argument could be made that everyone but Flugel could win this. San Francisco was a popular pick who went 6-11 and finished in last place in the NFC West. There has been a long-standing rule on Dutch's Questions that dates back to Red's Questions on the old ESPN Browns message board though... if you pick the Browns, especially to win the Super Bowl, well.... ? Bob806, AP1, Syd and mjp28 for one last time wear the goat horns on this question.

Well gentlemen, this concludes another rousing (and perhaps arousing) installment of Dutch's Browns Questions! As always, it's been a hoot, and I'll see you this coming fall for another fun-filled Browns season to predict!

I think Ford is above average. He's not a 20+ carry guy every week, but he's shown he can make some plays.

I think he's still under the rookie deal to, an added bonus for this roster.

Grab a bruiser-type RB in the draft mid rounds to help Ford out.

...I dunno...essentially, you had to pick who would win and who would lose.  DBone was the only one to get one of 'em right.  He has the highest score.  He is alone and untied at the top of the standings.  I think the rule book should be consulted under the Cone Of Silence.  Or in a blue tent.

A standin for Henry in very short yardage situations? Less wear and tear on the older RB extends his usefulness in the 4th Q.
