I wonder if this is all wink wink nudge nudge stuff, this way the front office doesn't lose face and Myles gets what he want's and so do the Browns

Myles doesn't sound like he wants a resolution with CLE. I predict ugliness & stupidity on both sides

Neither did Lamar last year.....or Aiyuk...of Debo...and many others.

He may truly want out that bad.  But just as possible this is still all about contract.

  • I'm tired of these divas wanting out of their contracts two years early. You want a trade? Fine, IF it makes sense for the organization. That means a king's ransom in trade return for a player of Myles caliber. If the Browns don't get what they want, let Garrett pout and holdout.

    In the real world:

"Hey boss, trade me to one of our competitors with more sales."

Boss: "No. See you Monday bright and early."

Myles is a diva ? never heard that one before. We need the frigging draft picks,Myles is not going to save this team after the #4 debacle, we need players on rookie contracts and yes it will be years untill we play at 500,unless you really think berry will hit on his draft picks ( then yes trading Myles is worth the gamble)

  • @bob806 said:

    They actually do.

A breach of contract leads to legal BS, no matter what side breaches it

Ummm...players get cut all the time with years left on their contract.   CLE just did it with the LS and Thornhill.  So no, teams don't honor contracts either.  Outside of Cousins (in MIN) and Watson there are no guaranteed contracts in the NFL.  It's just one sided that teams can end the contract,  not pay expected salary to player, and move on.  But a player don't like what's left (years at under value pay and no guaranteed money, as one example) its honor your contract

Ummm...I know what you're trying to say, but the contracts are structured in a way that the player still gets paid. The signing bonus is basically protection for the player in case the team wants to move on. The team releases Thornhill, he's compensated, and the team suffers some sort of cap hit.

Myles isn't going out like Joe Thomas did, and I don't blame him.

You are right, it would be best for the Browns and for Myles to trade him.

  • I had a dream last night that I was at the Browns game, and it was 3rd down, and Myles Garrett was breakdancing in the locker room.

  • It's sad.  The two players that put the Browns on the map in a positive way, Garrett and Chubb.....seem to be slipping away...

Indeed!  Neither were drafted by Berry so what we're evolving into is NFL body by Berry.  If that deserves FO tenure - I'm in the wrong business because I'd get demoted to Broom Closet Coordinator if I performed like that...

I'll be back later, I gotta go order some more cleaning supplies...?

Thornhill ain't getting his 2025 salary which he was under contract for.  But yes, the signing bonus is the only guaranteed money in NFL contracts.  Which leads to why players with no guaranteed money on their contract (Garrett as an example) demand trades.  Their salary,  which was part of the contract they and the team signed, is not guaranteed.   The team can simply release them from their contract and owe them none of that salary remaining on that contract.

Put it this way, imagine if everyday employment for regular folks was such that you signed a contract for a salary each year.  You cannot look for another job while under that contract even if the market pay is now higher (including at your employer for the same job you do).  But your employer can terminate your employment at any time.

Yes, he is and so is any other guy who won't honor a contract with two years left on it. I said in my post trade him if it makes sense. Don't dump him to Detroit, Philly, or the Chiefs for a 1st round #28-#32 overall pick, that's basically second round. Get a good trade haul return, or we keep him. Garrett has zero leverage here.

Well, your employer can make you sign an agreement that you won't ever go work for the competition.  And they can make up any ol' reason to get rid of you.  It is what it is wherever you are.

  • just saw that prescot and lamb have re worked their contracts to free up allmost 40 million

Either Haslam doesn’t want to come across as firing staff too soon (see Chud) or the FO has pictures of Jimmah in a compromising position.

If Berry and company can’t hit this draft out of the park…they need to go.

Probably a little bit of both CD.

Let's put it this way.  He's gonna be getting a bunch of home run derby caliber pitches thrown to him drafting near the very top of every round.   Even better, there's all kinds of time to be prepared.  No better opportunity to giddy up and get after it.

And therein lies the problem in a nutshell. Depo thinks it's baseball and Berry has become a believer.

As much as I really like all that for the real world, IMO it does/should change a little in the entertainment business.  While the Browns have dragged their feet at times, they did go out and bring in Jim Schwartz to maximize Garrett's performance to a Defensive Player of the Year honor as well as being the 1st NFL player to have 14 or more sacks for 4 consecutive seasons.  The last time this team won 11 regular season games inclusive of Myles blocking kicks - there's no way this team pulls that off without his relentless pressure repeatedly beating double teams.  He's also played through pain with nagging shoulder injuries that flare up.  In the olden days that got appreciated more than it does today.

I may be wrong here but I think the Browns should have added some performance incentives to his contract.

If you take away Myles from this defense would they have made the playoffs in 2020 or 2023?  Would they have beaten the Steelers in Pittsburgh the night Myles scored a TD on the game's 1st snap and pressured Roethlisberger into 4 INTs?  Hell no!  And yes, TJ/Too Jealous Watt disappeared like he always does in the 1st round of the playoffs. We've seen the playoff games with this team vrs Pittsburgh before Myles was on this team.

Joe Thomas is my all time favorite Offensive Lineman since I began watching this team; so I hate seeing fans bring up who meant more to this team between him and Myles.  These are 2 HOF players that led by example and play through pain. They also had to endure countless coaching changes on their sides of the ball as well as FO changes.  When you've committed 8 years of high effort and performance to this team - wouldn't you be annoyed the Owner is more interested in Brookpark than lighting FO fannies about going right back to another rebuild?  Jimmy should always be aware of who the upgrades are to his FO.  Since he isn't - his business keeps scapegoating the firings down to the symptoms (Coaches/Assistants).  Myles sees this just like a lot of our fans approaching their 60s wondering how many more chances we have to see this team win a Championship.

In the entertainment business, who is entertained by their team tanking AGAIN besides the fans of the other teams in the AFC North?

  • We are not trading Myles Garrett for peanuts. Myles can suck it up and play for the Browns, or hold out. Unless some team is willing to sell the farm for him. Who's a DE away from a Super Bowl? Buffalo comes to mind - they saw how the Eagles beat the Chiefs/refs - put so much pressure on Mahomes that the refs can't bail him out.

    Jimmah declined that meeting.

I may be in the minority, but I think it's would have been to Jimmy's benefit to have the meeting.

Instead, he looks like a scared man locked in his suite.

I understand. They reported it on local Indianapolis Sports Talk Friday morning.

The point that I failed to make was that I think denying thr meeting makes Jimmy Haslam look weak and scared. The man is in one of the world's most exclusive clubs as an NFL Owner. He has a Hall of Fame player on his roster that wants to meet. I think he should oblige the request.

You guys may disagree, but hiding behind locked doors will not solve this situation and I don't believe that meeting with Myles Garrett undercuts Andrew Berry as GM in any sense.
