Yeah, I ain't reading the article.  I don't want the only guy that puts us on the map traded.

This has been Dutch's position all along.  And I understand the logic.  And I'm certain that Schwartz understands the logic....but if they traded Myles can you even imagine all of the swear words that would've emanated from Schwatrz's mouth?  🙂

It was less the idea of trading Garrett than it was certain points in the article that l thought made it a good read. I’ll footnote it for you lazy asses.

    1) Haslam spends money, it’s his solution to everything, but he doesn’t spend it well. We’re basically the Dodgers of the NFL without the postseason success.

    2) Haslam didn’t have to extend Garrett. Garrett had no leverage in this ordeal other than the leverage Haslam gave him, which was significant, but unnecessary.

    3) I didn’t realize Garrett was lacking in certain “good veteran” qualities. The article mentions he’s frequently late and has skipped mandatory team activities in the past.

It’s actually great that we have an owner willing to write big checks, but if those big paydays are misdirected then you can see how it leads to a culture problem.

Well done IBB!   A BIG part of an owner's job if they want to do anything beyond paying generous contracts is to make sure they have an awesome GM and drafting talent.  As great as Berry can be with the salary cap - the amount of talent needed to win here in the AFC North leaves a lot to be desired aside from QB.  He also might want to look into a better Sports Med/Medical staff with all our high volumes of injuries and all those re-appearing.

  • In the press conference today - or perhaps an interview after - someone asked Myles if he knew what the plan was at QB and if he liked it if he did.

"I have a pretty good idea of what we are going to do and I wouldn't be here if I didn't like the idea".

Take that for what you will, but I'll be shocked if the Browns don't take a QB at #2, or possibly even trade up to #1 and take a QB.

There’s really only 2 things a fan base wants from an owner. Write checks and make good decisions. Haslam is great at the first part, not so great at the second.

I think we’ve seen enough of Haslam to know he’s a people pleaser. Not the worst thing, they are generally pleasant people to be around.

But you can’t be at the top of any food chain without having a comfortable pair of asshole pants. Sometimes you gotta say “no.” Sometimes you gotta say “fuck you, no.” Sure, it’s fine that he turned down the meeting. But then he turns around and succumbs to Garrett’s demands? Come on. Haslam is a sucker for public perception and it’s a limiting factor on what he could achieve.

We haven't had anyone get that second part right this century.

In a shitty draft for QBs...

But yes, it does appear that way by what he said, right?

I can't imagine old retreads like Cousins or Wilson is making Myles go "Well NOW I'm excited about the direction this team is going!"

The Browns were being let off the hook PR-wise by having Myles loudly demand a trade, a trade that could have kick-started the Browns rebuild heading towards Brookpark, but Haslam was too stupid or proud to let it happen, so he did what he always does: He threw a ton of money at a situation.

We only need there to be 2 good ones.

Us trading up to take one of 'em really puts a snub on the other.

edit - I find the signing of Pickett telling.  He's a backup QB.  And he's not some over-the-hill backup.  He's more like the Colt McCoy type career backup to me.  If I'm right and he IS the backup, where's the starter?  Russell Wilson came in and left.  Why?  Did he conclude that we were drafting a QB and he wasn't about to be a bridge?  Some things do give the vibe that we're picking a QB.

I don't see how this team wins enough for Berry and Stefanski to keep their jobs beyond 2025.

So I think they know the only way to keep their jobs is to take a QB at #2 and have him play well enough down the stretch next year to show everyone that the future of the team is on the upswing, even if the Browns only win say 6 or 7 games. At least that mediocre record has a smiley face asterisk attached to it, that tells everyone "Hey there lovers of everything orange and brown, we have the new face of the franchise at QB now! We have moved on from the last QB debacle and the future is bright!" A 6-11 Browns team with Sanders at QB playing relatively well as a rookie might keep them in Cleveland. IMO, a 6-11 Browns team in 2025 who passed on a QB won't do it for them.

I would be shocked if they don't take a QB with their first pick at this point, honestly.

I like Stef, why does the teams failure have to be linked between Stef and Berry?

I'd much rather salvage Stef before tossing him out with the bath.

Maybe I'm wrong or maybe I just have ptsd from past head coaches, but I'd like to stick with him longer.

I like Stefanski too, but IMO I just don’t see Berry getting fired and Stef staying… then you’d have a situation where you have to hire a new GM who then has to inherit a head coach.

And next season will be Stefanski’s SIXTH season as the Browns head coach. I think Haslam has been more than patient this go-around.

I dont think they view either of these two at the top as a Jayden Daniels type prospect.  Ward has some cringe level turnovers…I’m no QB whisperer but he looks and plays a lot like Jameis Winston.  That will not cut it next year.

I’d put my money on a guy like Cousins or Wilson saving them over a mediocre at best QB prospect

Haslam's mistake was continuing to allow Andrew Berry to make financial decisions for this team.

Looks to me like Daniels was an exception to the rule in terms instant stardom; but 5 years of starting in college in Arizona and LSU prepared him well. Bo Nix also had 5 years on the college resume at Auburn & Oregon as another impressive rookie QB reminding us starting experience seems to benefit these guys.

Here's the thing about the veteran retreads, we're not talking about the younger Russell Wilson.  The what have you done for me lately version lost his last 5 starts in Pittsburgh after not impressing his previous team in Denver.   Jerry Jeudy couldn't wait to get out of there because of Wilson. Actions speaking louder than words showed Pittsburgh tried to prioritize Fields over Wilson this off-season. Last I heard on Cousins - he took a look at what organizations need a QB and he's suddenly okay with staying in Atlanta as a backup.

I don't know enough about Ward or Sanders to dispute anyone where either should rank so I'll give you some things I see on Ward's book cover in case Sanders is gone before the Browns pick.  Ward also has 5 years of starting experience combined from 3 different colleges (Washington State, IW, and Miami).  Here's his TD:INT ratios in that span:  2020 - 24:4, 2021 - 47:10, 2022 - 23:9, 2023 - 25:7, 2024 - 39:7. The 5 year completion % is 65.   Is there a chance he can be more like Brett Favre than Jameis Winston?  In comparison, Jalen Milroe's most recent TD:INT ratio is 16:10 which sounds like a lot of X's and Uh-O's to me. Now for the best ratios from Shedeur Sanders.  2021 - 30:8, 2022 - 40:6 @ Jackson State 2023 - 27:3, 2024 - 37:10 @ Colorado. The 4 year completion % is 70.1

    If Abdul Carter is the alternative to either QB - he now has 2 injury concerns and his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. That said, here's his stats: 2022 - 13 G 56 T 6.5 sacks 10.5 TFL; 2023 - 13 G 48 T 4.5 sacks 5.5 TFL; 2024 - 16 G 68 T 12 sacks 23.5 TFL.

Another option is to trade back.

I like Stef, why does the teams failure have to be linked between Stef and Berry?

I'd much rather salvage Stef before tossing him out with the bath.

Maybe I'm wrong or maybe I just have ptsd from past head coaches, but I'd like to stick with him longer.

I don't think Stefanski and Berry are as much of a tag team as they might have been in the past, if they ever were.  That doesn't mean they don't work together.  It simply means I don't think the failures of one automatically leach over to the other.

It's  possible for one to be doing a good job while the other isn't. The only question one has to answer is, is it a matter of not having enough good players or is it a matter of not getting enough out of the player we have?

It's  possible for one to be doing a good job while the other isn't. The only question one has to answer is, is it a matter of not having enough good players or is it a matter of not getting enough out of the player we have?

I think he makes a valid point because.. What would Stefs success be with a different grocery picker? At times he does okay.. Most times I think Stef under achieves... And gets too cute at mind numbing times.. But in his defense.. It could be argued if he had a different talent evaluator shoppin the goods... The decisions and game calls certainly would be different.. Im not saying anyones right or wrong... Just looking at it as a whole construct of sorts... If you have 3 dimensional thought process its like your holding a football as a model and looking and viewing 3 dimensionally from all sides...
