He does.  Maybe 35 or more years ago I played in golf tournament with a friend in Phoenix AZ.   He lived out there and I was visiting and hooked up with him to play in his club tournament at the Pima golf and country club.  Alice Cooper was in the group right in front of us. At a couple of back-ups we had a chance to chat.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

When my Dad was working in South Africa many, many years ago, he got a chance to play with Gary Player. My Dad wormed the first driver on the 1st hole out of pure nervousness on getting to play with such a great golfer. Player threw another ball out to the T box with a grin saying, "You've heard of Mulligans right Jim?" He relaxed with that and hit it around 275 to the middle of the fairway, then said, "Thanks for the tip!"  They enjoyed the rest of the day as my Dad got to pick his brain along the way.

BTW I personally hate the damn game and am glad I can still play a decent game of racquetball as I near my 78th this coming Friday.?

So Tyler Shough was my mid-round QB who could be the long-term backup and if we're lucky break out and be a starter guy.

But it sounds like he might creep up higher than I'd want the Browns to take him. He's a seven year college player with great size and a great arm. He's 26 years old.

I still recall a caller on Greg Brinda's show on 850 AM asking Brinda why Ryan Pontribriand - who was the long snapper at the time - just wasn't made the starting center too...

"Hmm... that's a good question." Brinda replied.

240lb Ryan Pontribriand, starting center for the Cleveland Browns in the 21st century.

It's scary the amount of people who offer their most serious football opinions on something they have little to no idea(s) about.

Browns target Jalen Milroe shines at Pro Day

Milroe finished his Pro Day by competing in throwing drills. The script was created by Milroe’s quarterback coach Jordan Palmer. The two have been in the lab refining Milroe’s footwork during the draft season. Milroe’s hard work paid off. Milroe was accurate in drills, he threw 52 passes completing 45 of them. Milroe has the arm strength to make any throw on the field, but his feet being misaligned is a significant source of his inaccuracy

                      -----

...and he ran an unverified 4.37  40.

Milroe's arm strength isn't the issue.

His athletic ability isn't the issue.

When he sets his feet and steps into a throw, it's not an issue.  He can throw a pretty pass at times.

He is an average processor of defensive information both pre and post snap with little to no year over year improvement.  That is his 1st, 2nd and 3rd issue.    A pro day is only going to mask that giant red flag.

Johnny Manziel had an amazing pro day, never forget that.

Sure, but a pro day is where you go to see the passing talent that the QB possess, to see them run, and stuff.....and to talk to him.  QB's don't like to throw at the combine because they're involved with receivers that they're not used to throwing to....which can make them look less than stellar.

Sure, but a pro day is where you go to see the passing talent that the QB possess, to see them run, and stuff.....and to talk to him.  QB's don't like to throw at the combine because they're involved with receivers that they're not used to throwing to....which can make them look less than stellar.

Pro days are where you go to be handed an inflated sense of what amounts to the football version of a beauty pageant.

Passing against air isn't QB'ing, it's an athlete exercising. Passing talent and processing ability go hand in hand.  They are forever inseparable.

                               Wool doesn't belong over eyes.

Are you suggesting that, if your team needs a QB, and is probably going to draft one of the higher rated QB's, then going to a Pro Day is pulling wool over your eyes?

Me, I see it differently.  I'd want my guys at the Pro Day of every QB that we're considering drafting.  I don't care that the pass routes are scripted.  Because that's what NFL teams do all season long.  The QB's and receivers work on pass routes and timing.  The difference is that Pro Days don't have a period of time where a DB is trying to cover the receiver to some degree...like is done in TC and practice.

I believe that type of environment, painting a bed of roses, has convinced many a NFL front offices to pull the trigger on QB's that had no business taking as high as they did.

Is it good for interviews? Probably.

To speak to the medical team and to clear the bill of health?  Yessir.

To see what physical and mechanics improvements might have been made since seasons end?  I suppose.

To gauge QB play from the course of a career into how it projects at the NFL level? Absolutely not.

Because you end up getting obsessed with QB's completing timing throws to receivers they know without any variables that would actually include a QB's live-game passes.

Want to impress me?  Script a pro day against the scout or walk-on team with certain rules (no pressures beyond 4, 3pt stances, certain motion shifts and coverage shells) Then tell said scout team it's for scholarships.  I'd rather see a QB complete 70% against bodies than 95% against air.   Even if it's training camp type light.    You get a better understanding of the quality of QB you're getting but also the quality of competitor.

The Titans sent everybody except the ball boy to Ward's Pro Day today.  Seems like they'll be drafting him.

Not arguing that pro-day's aren't a tool.  They're just the one in the bag you use and count on the absolute least.   Minimal stock and investment at best.

                                          They very much could be...

But then again, if the Titans were interested in possibly trading down, making everyone think Ward is definitely an option for them to take would make sense too.
