Normally I'm all about defense, but the Browns have had serious issues scoring points, had a really bad offense last year except for a few games.

They have to take an offensive player, even if it's a LT.

I keep thinking to do a calfox mock draft, but this draft is crazy. My guess is, they will NOT draft a player at #2, they will trade down. Getting more picks will help them in the draft next year, or help trading back up into the first round this year.

It isn't a good draft for qbs, or ot, With a trade down, I can see drafting Josh Simmons, who is now considered to be a first round pick. If they stay at 2, I would take Hunter. But it's a great draft for edge rushers and cb's, they can wait til their pick at the top of round two, if Hunter is already picked at #1. In that case, I'd trade down - but the Browns may be determined to draft Carter...

I still would love to see Tyler Warren added to the offense.... it seems that the Browns might want to bring in Jason Dart with a later first round pick, probably much later, like trading back up into the first round.

    I just don't know... lol

I think there will be serious surprises upcoming.

We Browns fans are used to surprises, unfortunately the bad kind lol.

Jaxon Dart is indeed intriguing. For some reason I'm paranoid he goes to Pittsburgh and becomes a perennial all-pro.

Edit- I appreciate those links, good stuff

Let's say that the Browns do not pick the QB at pick #2.   Who do you pick...Carter or Hunter?

I harken back to Joe Banner's words just after leaving the Browns, 'Today's NFL is Pass and Rush the Passer'.  Of which, I fully agree.  Anything else you can do is gravy to the meat and potatoes.  I'm just torn between these two.

Hunter - Well, he's involved with the Pass in two ways.  He covers receivers and he can play WR pretty well.  Now, ya can't cover NFL receivers for very long so you still need the pass rush...but we do still have Myles.  He can also go out and catch passes...but we don't have the QB to get the ball to him (although they'd probably address QB in subsequent rounds, but to what degree of success?).

Carter - He's supposedly the answer to the Rush the Passer part of the equation.  But me, I'm a little concerned with his size of 259 lbs trying to man-handle the NFL's offensive tackles.  Plus his shoulder injury and a 'stress reaction' in his right foot.  And, as I said, we do still have Myles.

I honestly don't know which way to turn here....so I'd punt on 3rd down and draft the QB.  ?

Courtney Brown came here with all the same hype Carter is getting.  Unblockable, All Galaxy, 4.52 forty for a man that big, Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Consensus 1st Team All American, set a record for sacks, and on and on and on.  What changed everything?  Injuries early on in Cleveland.  The only Pro Bowl performance the Browns got from the edge during Courtney's tenure here was from Jamir Miller.  I heard everything I'm now reading about Carter.

The 1 game I looked at with Courtney Brown before the draft was Penn State's matchup with Michigan's strong running game.  Michigan did 1 thing differently than seemingly the rest of the Big 10.  Most of his impressive volume of tackles for losses came when teams ran the other way with the entire line reach blocking toward the playside while refusing to hinge off the backside leaving not 1 single player accountable to block/touch/detour Courtney Brown. Michigan decided to run right at him and did so with good success putting together long scoring drives.  Nothing better than scoring TDs at the end of a long sustained drives.  Essentially, they took away all the gimmes the Big 10 red carpeted him with and beat Penn State.  Carter isn't as big or as strong as Brown and I'm not sure how much quicker than 4.52 he may be; but the injured prospect couldn't work out.   Even worse, the Browns have been burned by a lot of previous Rosenhaus clients.  I'm not saying Carter isn't an exciting prospect - I'm worried about the what could go wrong - usually does go wrong in pertinence to our favorite team here.  Anyone with college wear and tear will now be playing 17 game schedules...

The trade-back for more picks is a very nice option as is Travis Hunter IMO.  Then again, are we certain our pick of the litter at QB is going to be better in 2026? It's gonna be Arch Manning; but we're going to have endure the worst record in the NFL again to have a legitimate shot at him.  Knowing Jimmy's history of intercepting the Manning family football tradition at Ole Miss with picking up Peyton in his private jet and getting him to UT.  That's why Jimmy is open to the 2026 thing; while he also understands the patience of not having a QB capable of winning here is growing super-thin.  Both of the top 2 QBs this year restored winning to programs that had lost the art for a while on top of what their stats were. They also have a lot of experience.  There's some teams wanting either of the 2 to fall to them so they could have an un-named scout or 2 announcing reasons to stay away from them.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

Yup, he loves his Mannings...but Peyton was Tennessee...which is close to Haslem's heart.  And although he seems to be asking for patience while we're without a QB, he didn't let that extend to not firing the coaches, just ask Norv Turner when he & Rob Chudzinski were let go after one season.  When Halsem addressed the team about the HC firing Norv let him have it, explaining that at the start of the season it was him that told the coaches to be patient because the roster wasn't where it needed to be.

Jimmuh seems to have learned 'some' from his beginnings as an owner.  We'll have to stay tuned for another ten months...

My biggest question though is... How long do you allow someone to learn?... How come guys like Kevin Colbert and Bill Polian, Ernie Accorsi come right out of the gate procuring good talent right off the bat?... Yet... Here's DEI Berry still trying to figure it out... Berry to me seems to be nothing more than a DEI hire who is better adept at managing salary caps and contracts...  Jimmuh IMHO hasn't learned very much...

I really think Hunter is the pick 70% sure at this point.

Regarding Carter and Brown…they went to the same school.

Brown didn’t have Carter’s bend. Carter is seemingly a better player in space as well.  Having the experience off the ball that I believe Courtney didn’t have.

Courtney Brown was good.  He got hurt while pushing his man so far past everyone else that he got the back of his leg stepped/fallen on.  He was never the same afterward.  An awful shame.

...and as we recall, Llavar Arrington was going around saying that Cleveland should draft Courtney and not him.  He did not want to come to Cleveland.

Assuming Ward is off the board, is there anyone who would stay at 2 but take someone other than Sanders, Hunter or Carter? Who?

Interesting - NFL analyst suggests the Browns trade down to #9 with the Saints - getting

a third round this year, and a first round pick next year.

I think I would love that trade - two picks in the first round next year would help the Browns get the elite qb they want in a far stronger qb draft.

I don't mind passing on Sanders or Ward. and in a very strong edge defender draft, I can see drafting another edge guy besides Carter.

Who knows.....maybe they could trade down again and make sure they get Jason Dart if that is their guy to get them through this season.

(I think most mocks have Tyler Warren going in the first 20 picks lol)

Thanks!  True about Carter being more of LBer that can excel as a pass rusher with Courtney being exclusively a down lineman. And the ability to bend in Carter's favor. Courtney was drafted 1st overall because his explosiveness off the ball broke the sack record while he sported the largest volume of tackles for a loss.  I posted the info. How many 6'5" guys playing at 270 lbs could run a 4.52 (and that was in the year 2000).  Be honest, did you know who Carter was before this last season?  Did you see any conversations in here about him especially while our team was on their way to 3-14?  His band wagon really launched around the time of the Big 10 Championship.  He had a great game against Ohio State's backup LT - that was an OG that ended up getting better and better with every new start.

None of this changes what happens to even the best of prospects once they get injured. Carter couldn't workout at the Combines or his Pro Day and Rosenhaus will protect him from working out for NFL teams interested.  We've had many of Rosenhaus' extremely well paid clients here that didn't suit up on Sundays.

Here's Carter's 2023 stats:   13 games 48 Tackles 5.5 Tackles for Loss 4.5 sacks    - Not horrible but nothing like his magnificence in 2024 right?  However, his 1st 16 game season took a toll on him to the extent he has 2 injuries.

To your credit you did say you think the Browns will draft Hunter & you are aware of all of the following: The other non-QB that Carter is competing with for the #2 overall pick (Travis Hunter) isn't injured. He's the best WR in the draft while also being one of the top Corners. We can either draft one of the top 2 QBs or the best non-QB that doesn't have injury concerns. Divine Intervention is reaching out to Jimmy here - what could go wrong???  It isn't that I don't like Carter - I mean I like Jack Conklin but he's been a bad investment here considering how many times the Browns have to pay another player to start in his spot over the years.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

                                  Carter/Hunter for me.

when are they chopping Carters shoulder or foot off? I am assuming the medical teams will do the poking and prodding. Unless/until we find the injuries are season or career threatening are we too snake bitten from our past.

if you stay at 2 and it isn’t one of those 2 we are stupid.

I could unfortunately see a world where we stay and then move up from 33 to grab a QB…and both sanders or dart are not worth a first round pick next season.
