Day 2 Friday 2025 NFL Draft

The Browns Board
119 25 2.3k 1
  • Wow, a Duck QB.

  • Gabriel was a mid day 3 eval.  Quite a bit of a reach here.

  • We were doing great until this pick. Xavier Watts, Jalen Royals, Tai Felton were there. Not a fan of a 5'11" shrimp QB.

  • Damn, I wanted Xavier Watts.

I would have been ok with Gabriel in like the 5th or 6th round.

  • Well I'll be damned...

QB Dillon Gabriel to the Browns.

There's our young future #2 QB

He's a short QB.  I like tall drinks of water.  I don't dislike him.  But there were guys with more value for us rather than a QB #2 of the future.

    yeah wtf?

  • All l can figure is the Browns brain trust really likes him. He is a guy with gobs of experience and played for multiple programs, and l recall chatting with you guys speculating about how NFL teams might value all that experience. It sounds like he’s had success, but yeah, not the biggest dude.

  • Milroe before Sanders.   Wowzers.

He must have rubbed all the GM's wrong.

Or his Daddy did when he started talking about it being better his son went to more established, well run teams..

It's fine if you start talking about teams that win a bit more, but you don't start pointing fingers at a teams front office since those are the people making the drafting decisions.

  • I've seen where Howard & Gabriel are not rated far apart at all.  Obviously Stef & Berry like that Gabriel gets the ball out on time.

That is the reason.  Stefanski values timing and QB's staying on script.  Was it a reach?  Probably a bit but Gabriel brings some fire.  When the little man can play with the big man, that brings some cred that players rally around.

    Think Doug Flutie.

  • I hate the Gabriel pick, why waste a 3rd round pick on a back up QB? How have other short QBs done in the AFC North?

More likely father did and no one wants the added baggage on the team telling them how to coach and use him.

Dillon Gabriel is a huge choke artist... He was a huge pass for me but Depud and his Laptop  are never ever wrong..

There's a decent amount of things to like about him. Good but not great arm, can move around, had a shit ton of college starts, played at the top level, etc... Height is about the only thing that really stands out as a negative, but he really IMO could fit the backup role nicely in the Stefanski offense.

I just wish it came two rounds later.

I figured you'd be ecstatic today...

The QB room has no black guys anymore.

Now it seems like a thing where teams are asking themselves "Do we need this potential pain in the ass situation to deal with for a backup?"

  • I truly feel badly for Sanders.  His slide is historic.  He must be as embarrassed as he can possibly be.  I really wish that we'd have picked him instead of Gabriel.  But, as has been said, at that point in the draft you're picking a QB that you envision as a long term backup...and that would definitely not be the expectation of his entourage.  And I think teams just don't want to deal with that.

This is more than a humbling experience.  It's a beat-down.  Even us, the worst QB evaluating franchise of this century passed on him for a QB that could've been drafted on day 3.  I have no great love for Prime Time or his family (I don't hate them either) but again, I truly feel for Sanders and what he's going through.

  • Interesting article - Berry was very gracious in talking about Sanders...and Gabriel.

BTW, I was also shocked at the pick - they passed on Shadeur, and picked a short qb, who has played at Oklahoma before going to Oregon.

5'11", 204. Pretty amazing smallish qb that is just very, very smart and gutsy. and a winner. Kinda sounds like a "Baker Mayfield" with less arm, two inches shorter. LOL.

and, he is one to be dancing in the middle of the guys... just like....never mind.

Just a very, very interesting pick. But it seems the Browns, without the stupid owner getting in the way, are drafting without going by the ratings of "football experts".

They are drafting football players who love the game.

I think it's stupid pick unless he's you plan on him being s seasoned backup.. Which.. you can find that player deeper in the draft... I have watched him play... He does not excite me 1 iota... He choked big against Ohio State..

In a weak QB class he's a 5th rounder at most not a top 100 pick. I could make a case for AB's draft strategy up till this pick which is just awful.
