I noticed pretty low intensity after most of the picks.  This was a no brainer in round 5

So, I went back and rewatched what I could find of the Browns War Room after the picks.  After the first pick they smile for the camera.  After the 2nd pick they're laughing at what is going on on the iphone (perhaps the drafted player's celebration)...but pretty much after that they were all quite subdued celebrations...as if a little something since the cameras are there recording.

So, I agree, the war room reaction should not indicate it was a Haslem pick.  I think that it just came down to the point where, hey, Shedeur is available here in the 5th round.  He and his entourage have been beaten into a humbled status.  Is it worth our 5th & 6th round picks to throw him at our biggest need in the organization?  And the collective answer came back as yes.

Drafts can take on a life of their own.  They can start twisting and turning...and before ya know it, what went around comes back around in a little different light.

Draft days have to be the worst for the front office. It’s spending 3 days cramped in a room with your boss. Who wants to deal with that?

I’m sure the enthusiasm wanes as the hours roll on.

"I have a few theories about why this happened, but I'm not going to give y’all a headline. I'll address the current situation and correct it as needed; I promise it will be handled accordingly. Shedeur don’t take no backseat to any QB."

On going with Shedeur to his 1st meeting with Cleveland

Deion just showed the world why Shedeur was a 5th Round Pick.

When trying to get out of the hole, the first step should be to stop digging.

and, another qb controversy brewing? Deion says this? So, with two picks in the first round next year, I'd say, let him show what he can do in the exhibition season, and trade him to someone who lost a backup qb. Maybe Deion should become a HC in the pros, like in Dallas, and start Shadeur. "...don't take no backseat..."

wow. Maybe he will refuse to sign with the Browns without a guaranteed contract...

  • I liked Deion as a DB and wherever else teams were willing to try him, but he wasn't the QB and he wasn't on my team.

After the Johnny/Mayfield-OBJ/Watson drama the last thing we need is papa Deion helicopter.

But, he was a 5th round pick. I want to enjoy our other draft picks and not spend anymore time on Sanders.

Jimmy and Dee just can't help themselves... They love Drama..

  • Listening to Steve Pallazollo and Sam Monson on youtube give their top 5 teams, they go directly back to the Browns after listing each of theirs and Monson made a great comment that really summed it up. He said if they had reversed the positions of when they took Sanders and Gabriel, you would have said the Browns knocked this ball right out of the park as the best draft of 2025 with the addition of a great DT, LB, 2 excellent RBs and Fannin plus 2 1st rounders next year. That comment hits the nail on the head exactly. They desperately need a QB and are bringing in two new ones to compete for the position giving them a greater likelihood of finally landing the QB position correctly. I agree completely with their assessment. And additionally they said so what if it was a weird way to get there, "That's a great haul!"

Someone up thread or in another thread (apologies can't find it and give due credit) said the following: if Shedeur Sanders was picked in the 3rd, Dillon Gabriel in the 5th and going into 2026 with two first round picks, this could be considered a perfect draft.

On Saturday, I was fine with the pick. Now, I'm not okay with the pick because of Deion's statement and they weren't humbled by the slide. I wouldn't have wanted to deal with Jack Elway or Archie Manning being high maintenance either.

The Browns don't need this distraction. The FO and Locker Room don't need this.

Jimmy, you've got a veteran QB the fan base loves because of the excitement he brought to the 2023 season. If you think Kenny Pickett can value to the QB Room, then so be it. Dillon Gabriel was successful for three programs over the course of his college career. NEXT YEAR, YOU WILL EITHER HAVE THE DRAFT PICKS TO TO SELECT THE QB OF THE FUTURE OR THE DRAFT CAPITAL TO PUT YOURSELF IN POSITION TO SELECT THE QB OF THE FUTURE. YOU, YOUR FRONT OFFICE AND TEAM DO NOT NEED DRAMA.

In dating terms, the Browns have three respectable dates they can take home to meet their Mom, they aren't perfect but they'll do for now. We don't need the made up hot chick in a short skirt showing up in a sports car with her hot chick friends. They're the group that, by the end of the night, are bare foot and dirty, completely dismantling the convenience store by throwing shit and dumping Slurpees everywhere, crying with mascara running down their faces showing us how crazy they really are because they have daddy issues.

  • After having time to think about it, I think I get why Berry took Gabriel in the 3rd round. Don't get me wrong, it was too soon for Gabriel in the third round, but here's what I think happened. We know Jimmah likes to interfere in personnel decisions, i.e. forced the Watson trade. At the end of Day 2 in the 3rd round, with Sanders still on the board, Berry & Stefanski decided to take Gabriel in the 3rd round so that way they could tell the old man "we already took a QB so we can't take Shedeur" when they regrouped after Day 2 heading into Day 3. When Shedeur fell to the 5th round, Jimmah pulled a Jimmah and forced Berry to make the pick. I know people are saying "don't read too much into Berry & Stefanski's reaction" - well I'm going to. Every other pick they called and said how excited and pumped they were to have X player coming to Cleveland. With Shedeur, Berry basically said you have to work hard and nothing is going to be handed to you. Berry & Stefanski looked completely pissed off. So yeah, I think Jimmah forced the pick.

  • Will Howard will probably become the next roethlisberger meanwhile Cleveland will be trying to make excuses for bronny James Sanders

I think it's a good bet. Haslem is always trying to make an unearned splash by taking the hype player of the moment. So far it has a 100% failure rate.

  • If Shedeur can't come to the meeting without his father he should be unsigned. That might be a bit of a click bait article, who knows, but if there is truth to it that's absurd.

This is gonna be such a train wreck, isn't it?

If next year wasn't supposed to have any QBs I could see taking 2 this year, or even grabbing someone sooner like Dart? Next year is supposed to be great for QBs especially if Manning does come out(number of QBs wise). I'm pretty sure that's our main objective and we have the picks to move up if needed. We just need to be patient another year - lol.

Sanders was nothing more than a projected round 1 pick landing in the 5th, last minute opportunity. If they had any plans on taking him they would have pulled the trigger sooner and who knows what about Gabriel. Do we really rate Gabriel above Sanders? Do we think anyone else would have taken Gabriel before Sanders? Reversing their picks definitely would have made more sense. Still can't past the drama/distraction that's expected though I won't focus on that anymore until it hits me in the face during the season.

I'm not bitching though, it just seems they didn't stick to their guns. Still looking forward to the season and looking forward to seeing how our new QBs do, except maybe Pickett lol.

  • On the flip side of this coin.

How'd you like to be at Colorado?

...having to wonder if the HC will be focused on his team or on being a helicopter parent for his adult son.

Exactly. Rothlicksbooger - 6'5", 240 lbs. Will Howard - 6'4", 236 lbs. I don't get that he didn't get drafted in the third round.

Well, I respectfully disagree with he.  I think this was the best scenario for the team.  They liked Gabriel's game better than Sanders'.  And this is how they should be listed on the depth chart.  IMO

  • Overall, Sanders' natural and pure passing abilities are the strength of his game. He is a high-floor prospect with a good ceiling to buy into. Sanders is best suited for a quick-passing offense, where he can play on time and on schedule. He has the mental aptitude and accuracy to become a franchise-leading quarterback.

    MEASUREMENT AND WORKOUT RESULTS

    HEIGHT: 6'1"

    WEIGHT: 198

    HAND: 9⅜"

    ARM: 31½"

    WINGSPAN: 77¾"

    POSITIVES

    — High-level passer, throws with great accuracy, and ball placement from the pocket.

    — Displays mental resolve in late-game/clutch situations. Trustworthy when the game is on the line.

    — Accustomed to throwing from muddy pockets. He stands tall to deliver the ball downfield.

    — When protected, picks defenses apart with precision and surgical process.

  • Shedeur was a disaster in the interview process..  A team intentionally put mistakes in an install during the interview and Shedeur didn't catch them.

Nobody threw more bubble screens in the P5 than Shedeur.

If this was a Haslam Special... Haslam is now 0-2 when he demands a specific QB, 0-3 if you include Mr. Massage.  My brother in Christ, just stay away.

Only to people with limited knowledge on, well, anything.

  • You guys are sweating a 5th round pick too much with 2 or 3 starters ahead of him. Barring injury I'd be surprised if he starts a regular season game this season.
