Yep, that's IMO the most realistic best case scenario.

The dream best case scenario is he comes in and by the end of the season he's shown the world that he legit was the #2 overall pick guy some thought he was, and now we have our QB for super cheap for four years AND he and his dad are model citizens and now the Browns have two first rounders that they don't need to use on a QB in next year's draft, because he's our franchise QB.

But yeah, my original response in reality is what we should realistically be hoping for. The above is such a wild idea that I might as well throw in Jennifer Lawrence becomes my new neighbor and my wife grants me a lifetime hall pass with her, and lo and behold JLaw's kink is middle-aged Italian guys from the Midwest.

It's really four.  Watson will be IR'd.

  • It's definitely intriguing.

I really like what Flacco did in his short time here. The question is, can he repeat it?

They traded for Pickett for a reason. I'm clueless as to what it was, but hey, he was a 2 year starter. I think he stays unless he totally gets the bed in camp/preseason.

The 2 rookies will stay IMHO. DW on IR I would imagine.

My hunch is Flacco is gone if a QB needy team comes calling during camp.

When Pickett played for Pennsylvania's BEST team - he didn't have to worry if Pickens was in the mood to play football when he got his chances to play.  He had Pro caliber WRs that played like professionals.  The OLD Pittsburgh teams wouldn't have tolerated Pickens. That looked like it settled into a hard place to play QB before Pittsburgh drafted Pickett. Last year they benched the QB that started them off at 4-2 for another QB that lost his last 5 starts.   The QB struggles weren't exclusive to Pickett by any means in recent years...

For the Browns, keep the 2 rookie QBs and see what Veteran QB runs the offense best.  The Colts didn't get the Joe Flacco the Browns got; so at some point his age is going to factor into how many quality starts he has left.  Loved what he did here in the 2023 regular season though...

Between the 4 possibles, surely they can all tank this team into a high first rounder and not count on Jax to do it for them.?

Oh wait.......................................we fucked up that scenario by adding two quality RBs with vision that will give the newly infused defense some extra time to rest up as we maintain possession of the ball. And an extra good TE to bail out whichever QB gets to start. So nevermind.?

I think I would place a bet on both the Browns picks being in the top 10.

So, Arch Manning who was never able to beat out Quinn Ewers (who wasn't drafted until the 7th Round this year) is only going to have 1 year as the Starter under his belt - is this the guy we're tanking for?  Keep in mind, Arch has a protective family that will encourage him to stay at Texas for anywhere from 7-10 million $ unless they have salary cap issues like Woody's Wolverines already have ?.  They'd also want him to have more experience like Uncle Peyton had by staying in college for his 4th season at TN. If they let him go to Cleveland - he's gonna feel like that little kid on the yellow raft in the movie Jaws...

I don't see Arch entering the draft next year.  The incentives to enter the NFL aren't as great as before.  These top guys end up with pay cuts once they enter the NFL. Arch makes a sizeable amount of NIL money.  Add in Arch comes from a family with plenty of money.  Cooper Manning has a net wealth of 13 million, not to mention a couple of Uncles and Grandfather who have plenty of money.

It's not like Arch is that student with a case or two of Raman packed under his dorm bed.

Nah, the Jags will have Lawrence back.  And he'll have a new WR.  Plus, they added pieces to their D.  I think they'll do much better this season.

Well said!  Me either - that's why I mentioned he has a protective family that will encourage him to stay another year at Texas for the income range of 7-10 million.   Again, his Uncle Peyton (who never had to red-shirt) stayed a 4th year at UT more for the experience than than the competition to be the 1st overall draft pick.  In 1997 Virginia Tech's Jim Drunkenmiller was the 1st QB taken but not until #13 overall so he would have been the 1st QB taken.  The point is - length of experience as a starter in college football is extremely helpful preparation for the NFL and Peyton understood this.  Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels are examples of QBs that benefitted from a wealth of starting experience and both guys started at 2 different programs within their experience.  In comparison, 1st round pick Mitch Trubisky only started 1 year before he was drafted; and today he's back in Buffalo as their backup QB making a very nice living though.

Aww...the Jags are my 9 yr old grandson's favorite team.  He was with 'the father' on draft day...so naturally he knew nothing of what went on until I saw him on the Friday...which is when we exchanged high fives and talked about the goings on.

After all he's accomplished in Cleveland?

  • This was the plan they sold to Myles when they assured him the QB situation would be addressed. ?

  • Nathan Zegura said Dillon Gabriel was the number two quarterback on the Browns board after Cam Ward.

He said Gabriel wins the way Kevin Stefanski wants his quarterback to win.
    - Great decision maker
    - Accurate from the pocket
    - Can throw on the move from both directions
    - Excellent pocket movement

Stefanski also told Zegura that, while they were watching the tape, the team kept asking, “Where does the height show up?”

The biggest knock against Gabriel is his height, which is listed at 5’11”. But his smaller stature didn’t prevent him from being the most productive quarterback in college football history.

    Zegura said:

“If Dillon Gabriel is 6’3”, he probably is the number two [overall] pick in this draft.”

It’s crazy to think that four inches could be the only difference between being the number two pick in the draft and going late in the third round.

But if that’s truly the case, then the Browns got a legitimately talented quarterback at a serious value.

  • Sanders stole some thunder but I'm very interested to see Gabriel under center for us.

Especially since this pick seems geared towards our HCs style.
