  • Nick is my favorite current Brown..And being My "Tocayo" with the same initials NJC is kind of cool too.. I just wish the Browns would do right by him... I get its a business... I guess they want the same stain on their chin as Bill Belicic' ....

They don't want to keep that chin shoot exclusive?  Yeah, as much as I really like both RBs the Browns drafted - they could have landed a very promising young OT with the 36th overall pick in round 2 (which would have made room for keeping Chubb - without reading the world according to Mary Kay Cabot announcing Ford's agreement to cut his projected salary in half to stay meant the end to Chubb).   Hopefully, the Browns are just keeping quiet that they're really healthy at OT this time around...  If not, it's gonna dictate/limit where they can run and how long they can pass protect on the edge...

"I wouldn't rule anything out, but I would say that it's probably increasingly unlikely," Berry told 92.3 The Fan. "We do have two young guys that we liked. We think Jerome [Ford] plays a role. It's basically kind of maybe seeing how the roles shake out in the running back room.

"You're never going to rule out someone as near and dear to our heart as Nick, and I would expect him to take another step being a year removed from the knee injury. But I'd say a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now."

---- As I said in another thread, We no longer have a 'place' for Nick Chubb.  We spent a high draft pick for a feature RB.  And Ford can back up that position.  And we drafted a change of pace RB who WAS a feature RB, so he can also carry some of the feature RB load when needed.  It's sobering...but there's no place on the team for my / our favorite Brown of this century.

Who's my / your favorite Cleveland Brown now?  Myles?  Bitonio?

  • Just saw a headline come across bottom of ESPN 2 saying multiple teams are showing interest in acquiring Chubb from Cleveland who is not likely to remain with Cleveland. No details on what that actually translates to in terms of whether Cleveland gets anything in return for him.

I really hate the way the Browns are dogging him... This Organization has 0 class..

  • Ian Rappaport reporting that Nick Chubb is expected to sign with the Texans on Monday.

I'm sure he'll have a fire in his belly and rattle off 2-3 more solid seasons.

  • I’m sure his knees won’t take much pounding, and willing to bet he’s lost a step or two

  • He signed with the Texans. Was great having him when he was still great!!

  • Very happy for him!  Love that guy!

  • Well, there goes my favorite Brown of this century.  Be & do well Nick!!

Well thankfully it’s not a division rival. I wish him the best.

  • I’ll be rooting for Nick, but I also understand why the Browns moved on from him. He was a shadow of himself last season, has had multiple major surgeries and turns 30 during the season.

  • I still say pit needs paid back

  • Our world is driven by hyperbole. I do not want to spend hyperbolic, I mean this to the core.

This is the hardest player goodbye since Bernie.

This is how the decision makers viewed him.  And they weren't overly thrilled with Ford.  Couple that with them knowing that going into the draft they were planning on drafting their QB of the future.  They just didn't know whether that would be as starter or backup.  This new QB was going to need to rely on a running game for help while he grows into the NFL speed.  It was a good RB draft to get those fresh legs.

Once the draft was over, there was no longer room for Nick Chubb.  But don't doubt for one minute that the 'decision makers' hated having to end Chubb's tenure here.  He's impossible not to like as a person as well as a model team mate for your team.  -  As Yogi Berra said, When you come to a fork in the road, Take it.    They made the decision and can't look back.

Now, Chubb seemed a shadow of himself.  But all of our RB's were shadows.  Our OL had it's worst 'level of play' season in some time.  Was that a contributing factor?  Chubb couldn't play and was basically still healing well into the season.  Is he more healed now?   Is it a combination of the two.  Will he be pretty darned good this year?  I think we all hope so.  (including Stef & Berry)

I also think the change in offensive philosophy last season might have had something to do with the running game struggles, along with a HUGE downgrade in OLine coach.

I would have liked to see Chubb back here as one of the three guys in the RB room, but remember folks, the Browns already gave him a chance last season by re-signing him coming off the surgery. I can see where they weren't going to do it again.

Good luck in Houston, Nick. You'll be missed.

I see what you're saying.  FWIW though, there's always been varying levels of knee injuries depending on how extensive the damage is and how much connective tissue is involved. When you start hearing more than just MCL or ACL (or whatever the case may be) the comeback trail gets a little more complicated and longer.  There's always been certain levels of knee injuries where guys responded/performed way better in their 2nd year post-op.  There still is. This is just my opinion nobody needs to agree with; but I feel like the Browns' medical staff has been an epic disappointment since their return in 99.

Just look at the volume of injuries alone in recent years or just dating back to 99. I remember Braylon Edwards tried race someone at Berea in bare feet and ended up with glass in his foot.  Not the brightest apple in the orchard. Makes me wonder though - are they looking at the playing surface these guys practice on?  What kind of strength and conditioning program are they using?  Are they using ballistic Olympic Lifts where even the best in the world get injured performing some of those movements they practice all the time?   If you need to dress up your elbows and knees like mummies to perform certain ballistics - do you know what can't hurt you?  Asking yourself why that's necessary for the sport you play.  My hope is they're all on the same page with the safest methods of performance enhancement for this franchise; but various trends have me thinking many outcomes aren't just coincidental. Hope I'm wrong about this.  All this stuff starts at the top of the organization with Jimmy in charge of the hiring as well as the philosophy of it all.

Why all that?  Well, if anyone thinks the Browns really did their due diligence with Nick Chubb giving him just the 1st year back after that extensive knee injury - swamps are for sale in Alligator Alley...  The RB position was and will always be what endeared me to this franchise.  I'm not gonna take my frustration of it all out on the newcomers to the RB position; but it won't stop me from wanting to see Nick Chubb play well in Houston.  Jimmy has been friendlier than Santa Claus to that team.
