5 QB’s In The Room
-
If "Daddy" has any common sense... He would know this is good for Shadeur whether I like him.. Or not... There was a guy drafted ahead of him.. And two guys who are vets.. He needs to tell his son (if he doesn't know already) Respect and time is earned... Not just given on a silver platter..
Good point. The problem is daddy allegedly ran his mouth the week of the Super Bowl (and prior to that) about all of the teams he didn't want his son to play for. As you can guess, these were all teams needing a QB the most heading into the draft. Actions speaking louder than words, Deion's level of respect or lack-there-of via running his mouth cost his son at the draft. No matter what people think/thought of him - he wasn't projected as low as round 5 in what many draft analysts felt was a weak QB draft to begin with. That said, a lot of analysts and magazines usually had him listed as one of the top 3 QB prospects in the draft for whatever that's worth.
Not to freak anyone out here but his OC at Colorado was Pat Shurmur. Yes, the same guy that once put a concussed Colt McCoy right back in the game just 2 plays after James Harrison knocked his lights out. The same Coach that decided to punt the football on 4th and 1 at the Colts 38 yard line with a 10 point deficit midway through the 4th quarter against a defense that was ranked 31st against the run. So, the Browns punted the football into the end zone and got the touchback gutless football deserved.
In any event, today Arch Manning has a NIL Contract of $6.5 million playing college football (and he hasn't even won himself the starting job in that program to date). Meanwhile Shedeur Sanders has a 4 year $4.6 million contract (with a $447 signing bonus) in the NFL.

Right Tom... Despite what I think of him one way or the other... I want him to do well as a member of the Cleveland Browns..... How Pat Shurmur has a job today is mystifying... With his horrible coaching record it defies gravity... By the same token.. The Cleve Sports Media is setting up Shadeur to fail... By calling for him to start right out of the gate... I just think that is a recipe for disaster!.. I have to witness the posts of jerkoffs on X about Shedeur and remind them theres a reason he was drafted in the 5th round.. And he was the victim of most of his sacks by holding on to the ball too long... You can't do that in today's NFL.. Defenses are lightening fast and the difference between college and Pro are night and day... I enjoyed your post about Arch and the comparisons you pointed out between Arch and Arch Sr. Poor Arch Sr got relegated to playing on some crap teams. Thank God he had Danny Abramowits to throw to or no one may have ever heard his name... He was N.O.'s most consistent pass catcher in that era.. By the time he got to Houston his best years were clearly behind him..

Our fanbase has had a significant amount of training in whatever can go wrong often does. That being the case, a lot of our fans don't believe in the fairy tale that was once non-fiction in Cleveland. Consequently, various media that's great at selling controversy capitalizes on the negativity around here regarding the Browns. They take inventory of their loyal consumers/patrons and feed them what they want. I always preferred Terry Pluto to Tony Grossi. Doesn't mean I'm right and others are wrong - I'd rather feel like I'm reading about the current events instead of agendas.

It was reported today that Deion Sanders was battling bladder cancer, he's now cancer-free. Safe to say he's had bigger fish to fry than his son's playing time in Cleveland.
It really did seem apparently that Kenny Pickett was starting training camp off well and may have had the inside track to start preseason as the #1 guy, and then he tweaks his hamstring. Next man up.

They actually took out the bladder completely and replaced it with some of his small intestine. My across the street neighbor just had two large bladder cancer tumors removed and is awaiting the path results. I'll tell him about that procedure in case he never heard of it.

Not a huge surprise if Pickett or even Flacco looks better than the rookies at this stage of their careers or this season.
If the Browns are hoping to trade Pickett - the soft tissue hammy injury (unless it's severe) could be a blessing with the news he's off to a good start looking like he can be the #1 here. I could see a team like TN getting interested a trade given their current backup QB situation.
For whatever it's worth, I'm getting the impression Shedeur Sanders isn't nearly as overwhelmed in life without Father Prime every day. I prolly could have picked a better time to say that than right after learning his dad just had bladder cancer that he is now cancer-free from.

Doubt you'll see much Flacco in pre-season. So it's essentially 4-5QBs for 3 weeks worth of game snaps.

Yes. Huntley's brought in because only Flacco & Sanders were able to practice the other day.
Nick Wright:
“So I was not a Shedeur guy. However, because of where he is and the quarterbacks he is competing with, they’ve got to start him at some point. Kenny Pickett is injured and not an NFL quarterback. Joe Flacco is 40 years old. Dillon Gabriel, he’s too small. Shedeur, there is a 5 percent chance Shedeur is the franchise quarterback. When the other three guys have a combined 0 percent and you’re gonna be a terrible team, the moment the year has gotten away from you, you have to play Shedeur,” Wright said.

Shedeur Sanders to start Browns preseason opener on Friday
I know it's because Gabriel & Pickett are nursing hamstring injuries......but I'm happy to see him get to start. It's the best possible scenario for him to start the 1st preseason game. ( not that I'm happy that guys are hurt! but I'd like to see what he can do Right Out Of The Gates. Let's see what he's made of in this type of situation! )
This is an unforeseen opportunity. An opportunity to show that he has command of the offense. An opportunity too show that it's not too big for him. An opportunity to show poise and control on the field. An opportunity to show that, Hey! There's a non-zero chance that he just might, maybe, who-knows, become legendary.
I'm pulling for him because of what he had to endure during the draft weekend. I don't know if he and/or his Dad brought in on himself or not. But I do know that he handled the embarrassing situation quite well. Not lasing out at anyone or anything. Just quietly accepting what happened with a sense of humility and dignity while still being his Happy Self!
Having said that and thrown my support his way, he'll trip over his feet on the 1st play and throw a pick 6 on his second. Because........Browns......

I'm not rooting against him - but it's a tough thing to start a game so soon - things move a lot faster in the pros.
He may really surprise a lot of folks, one way or another.
Still not happy with the high speeding garbage. We had a white sports car blow past us a week ago, it was like trying to watch NASCAR cars go past in person at the races.
Shedeur Sanders expected to start Browns' first preseason game vs Panthers: report
With Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel both hurt, fifth-round pick Sanders gets the first preseason nod

Me either, but it's not like he was molesting underage girls or something.

I'm glad he's starting, even though it will probably be against a vanilla defense.
Just remember DTR was a pre season stud. Let's keep our enthusiasm tempered a bit ( if you have any).

DTR looked really good in both preseasons.
I won't be surprised if Sanders does well too, and the Sanders contingent of new Browns fans that have arrived - already as annoying as Baker Bros - will be all in a lather.

Well if Sanders & the Browns play well then we can put up with it.

We know that we were going to see plenty of Gabriel during the preseason. He was the one they chose. I was concerned that we might not see enough of Sanders. That shouldn't be the case now.
The main secondary goal of this season is to determine if we need to draft a QB in round 1 next year. ( the primary goal is to win games )

I don't worry about it.
The way i see it, if we do that means we got poor QB play and we will be drafting high enough that we won't have to use the extra 1st rounder to get a good QB.

That'll make for an interesting dynamic interacting with Poor Kvoethe hoping the Cleveland Browns can become a pain-free hobby this season. Every time the Cheesecakelettes show up to remind him how wonderful their lives were with Baker in it - his panic attacks are only getting worse.
This series will be streaming in here all season...
