The 2024 Analysis thread - Dawn of The 9

The Browns Board

  • Haven't had much sleep, so the tail end of this video suffered.  I'll get better as I go... between the storyboarding, scripting, editing, delivery, pacing etc etc.   This one was slightly rushed, not quite as detailed as I would have hoped.  But I think you'll get a lot of the idea.

Hopefully everyone enjoys.   I have to crash and get some much needed sleep, been up almost 24 hours.

GREAT job TJ!   Excellent use of the pre-snap formations in the video as well as what's happening with the matchups within the progression the QB is looking at. The interpretation of it all was spot-on in the RT9 you shared. Way to Run it Man!   There aren't a lot of lefties starting at QB in this league so I've been wondering if there's been any issues with dropsies from the receivers at practice. 4 of the 5 QBs on the Browns are right handed; so their spirals come into the Receivers' hands with a clockwise rotation/spin.  Then Gabriel comes in and his throws all have the opposite counter-clockwise spin. It didn't seem to be a problem in the game, which was refreshing.

Thanks, man.  Got some zzzz's, ate a late lunch and got a quick workout in.   More clips coming this evening, just make sure to follow the twitter.

  • Saw some youtube clips and an interview with Tyvis Powell about Cameron Mitchell.  Felt like I'd toss my hat in the ring.

I watched the first half of this 3 times. I wouldn’t normally do that but my goal is constructive criticism.

You’re in to some 400 level college level football speak on this. Have you ever read any old literature that’s tough to digest? Shakespeare? Poe? Homer?

You read an entire page and then realize you didn’t understand any of it because you’re hung up on some passage on the page before it.

“Curl to flat, attaches to the hook.” “Chasing shallow drag.” “Farside flood.” “Receivers are running mesh.” I wrote those down because those were those things for me.

It’s wildly educational. I went back and eventually understood some of it based on context. There was much rewinding involved, which might be ingenious because that’s basically what you’re doing and it teaches others how to do it too.

But l would argue it’s a small percentage of football fans that are going to hang with that.

The points made were solid. Being a short QB is a disadvantage. the film breakdown and the ways you pointed it out were spot on.

The last half was dodgy and you acknowledged that. All of it coulda been said in 30 seconds or less. That’s the sort of thing AI or an English nerd could help you with.

I'm taking this as both a compliment but also as someone telling me to slow it down a bit.  Something i was thinking about and it's actually more difficult than I expected.  Talking in my native language, then sort of boiling it down for those who aren't at that 400 level while not sounding patronizing.

I read the unabridged Frankenstein once.  That Ye Old English had me feeling like I was reading Latin.

Yeah, still working to find that balance.  Sometimes I'm saying things and believing the arrows and illustrations will properly highlight the point along with the right verbiage. But I realize it might not be enough at times.

That's the biggest issue.  I want to be the channel that football players watch for their shit and feel like theyre hearing their language.  But I also want to draw in all manner of crowd because this game is so expansive, so binding, and there's so much too cover that I want to welcome all and not overwhelm them.

Wanting to give as much detail in my commentary as possible while walking another line that less is more.

I'll continue working to find that balance, just keep the feedback coming.  I have another post about Cameron Mitchell and his struggles you can check out.

The big topic is Shedeur. I'm actually posting every single one of his throws with analysis and recap. About 3/4 done and should have it completed by tonight or tomorrow morning.

In getting the upload ready, I saw similar channels giving breakdowns (hate that word) as far back as Saturday night.

For 99.9% of these guy, the all-22 wasn't even available until 9am the next day.  How the fuck does anyone believe theyre giving the right critique, especially of a QB, when you literally don't have the whole picture?

Like I said, everyone is in a rush to be first and loudest. I want to be the most comprehensive and accurate.

Edit: That reminds me, I dont want to forget about TBB group. So I'll probably just end up making a seasonal RT9 thread and repost the twitter/youtube links in it.  I know a lot of people dont social media and I don't blame them at all.

  • tia-if you explain to the ones who understand it all that they have to patiently listen to extra explanatory points for those not as well versed, 90+ % will get that and all will appreciate the efforts.?

Although @texasag1969 makes a good point about this, I could also see that in some videos you would just like to go balls to the wall on football abracadabra. As the channel matures, you may want to segment videos into something like 'RT9 Pro Series', and 'RT9 All Aboard.' This manages expectations on the viewer side, while giving yourself direction when you make the video.

In the meantime, I will be blissfully unaware about every one of the terms you used, while still coming away with the sense that I learned something ?

    Segways rather brilliantly into this....

Oh, so us plebes are not your target audience? I see how it is…

@korsou-dawg’s comments would mirror my line of thinking then, having a “pro series” heading. I think you’re destined for a website. I know a gal.

I wasn’t sure what the goal was, l assumed marketability because more engagement generally nets more clicks and more engagement, and that generally leads to more opportunity.

The "pleb" bit gave me a good laugh.

The goal? I think the goal should be with anything - I'm doing what I'm passionate about, if things come along with it then thats great.  But I'll work on the product which tends to market itself.

But the idea between a faster "pro" series vs a slower "cut down" is a solid idea.

To be honest, anyone that loves the game enough to watch it every week and post almost daily on a football board should challenge themselves to at least find out where the hook zones and flats are.  Kind of like if someone is going to move to America - they should make it a priority to learn the language so they can maximize their enjoyment of their new country.

Having said that, I do understand IBB's suggestion to bring some of it down to where most readers can understand/enjoy it. I was thinking if he could audio in a "BOOM!"  from John Madden in a video or 2 he's describing - or something similar from Keith Jackson or Dick Enberg. If he doesn't want to borrow any of that - I'm willing to bet TJ can wake up sounding like Sam Elliott on a Saturday or Sunday morning...

While this is true, taking an extra 10-15 seconds is something I should do.   But doing that every clip or video adds up quickly.  This is why I had memtioned the offense and defense 101 style clips I'm going to do.

  •  We're going to be doing a live Tuesday night show on the YouTube page.  Brownies Tuesday Night Talk, hosted by yours truly.

I can't stand the podcast bro culture. That said, it's the easiest way to convey content and do some breakdowns in between larger videos.

It won't be your typical ramble session or just reheated, repeated info that doesn't advance knowledge.  15-30 minutes tops.  I'll Tell you what I've found, my interpretation(s) film review and commentary with great detail.  Fair, dispassionate, straightforward.

Addressing the good and bad on the week for the team, tie trends together across games and the season.

I'll be doing the same for BrainyBallers.com here and there.

I realize it's Tuesday night now.  We're smooth out the technical aspects. I may have the first stream released tomorrow instead of waiting until next week though.  So sit tight, give the YouTube and/or twitter page a follow.   I'll link it here when it's ready.

  • A) Find article on FB which teaches how to use quoting on message board.

B ) learn to completely read articles used

    C) Learn to count and do math

  • Effective uses of “I”:

In many cases, using the first person pronoun can improve your writing, by offering the following benefits:

Assertiveness: In some cases you might wish to emphasize agency (who is doing what), as for instance if you need to point out how valuable your particular project is to an academic discipline or to claim your unique perspective or argument.

Clarity: Because trying to avoid the first person can lead to awkward constructions and vagueness, using the first person can improve your writing style.

Positioning yourself in the essay: In some projects, you need to explain how your research or ideas build on or depart from the work of others, in which case you’ll need to say “I,” “we,” “my,” or “our”; if you wish to claim some kind of authority on the topic, first person may help you do so.

That's outstanding, I see you have a master command of linguistics and presentation.

I remember you mentioning you played Xbox Games, was it Ghost Recon?  Something Tom Clancy based.   Either way, you have a pretty fundamental grasp on how to use the internet and technology.

So if that's the case, would you be willing to join the show and break down personnel and plays for us?  I'd LOVE to hear your input with great detail.   I'll even be happy to provide you the mic and camera.

edit: I'll take it a step further and PAY you for your time.
