Gabriel changed his number from 5 to 8.  I didn't like #5.  I've never been a huge fan of #8 either.....but if you turn it on it's side then it's infinity....which is cool.  🙂

I was kind of surprised that there wasn’t a run on quarterbacks wearing 16 after Montana retired back in the day, but Jake Plummer is the only guy I remember.

And I'm surprised we haven't had a run on #2!!?

That's good.  That famous T-shirt listing all the QBs that failed in Cleveland since the 80s has so many names on it now that it prolly comes in Tent Sizes.

  • Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders. Zappe ends up #3 and Sanders gets traded for a bag of practice balls.

I don't think that we really know how much Sanders sucks.  But we DO KNOW how much Zappe sucks.

  • Looking at our schedule...I'm thinking that Gabriel starts game 6 at Pittsburgh.  (unless they want to give him his 1st start at home...which would be week 7)

  • Zac Jackson: “If this were a first-round quarterback, you might think about playing him now, right? But you made the decision to go with Joe,” Jackson

. “Why is Joe here? For his experience, for his calm, for getting guys in the right positions. You have to give him a chance to do that, right? And if guys are still not getting open, not catching the ball, or not running the right route in a couple of weeks, you can explore that. But the reality is, you’re about to go to Detroit, you’re about to go to London to play Brian Flores, and then you come back to play in Pittsburgh. So, I would let Joe take those punches.”

  • While calls for a quarterback change grow louder, former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is urging patience with the current situation.

“I think it would be torture for a young quarterback out there. I mean, look, I want to see him play, but it’s hard. It’s hard in the NFL—even with loaded teams. And this team, I’m not picking on it, but it’s not loaded. To put the young guys out there right now is sinful. If you want to see them fail, that’s how you do it. You’re going to develop bad habits, you’re not going to believe in yourself, your eyes are going to drop, and you’re going to start hearing the demons. It’s too early.”Kosar

Reasonable explanation from one who should know better than anyone convinces me.

And I’ll fully admit, I always lean towards keeping a young player on the bench possibly even longer than he needs to make sure he’s not rushed in too soon. I’ll always be hesitant to start a rookie QB or to promote a young stud from the minors to the majors in baseball. I can’t think of many players in sports history whose career was ruined because he sat and learned too long… but the list of players who were rushed in too fast and it negatively affected their careers is a long one.

That list is long, and it is strong, and it is ready to get the friction on.

  • there is no one size fits all answer.

Pro ready or project?  And Handle of the playbook if you can unleash most or the entire playbook at them probably more inclined to give the guy a shot.  And you interview these guys and study their college careers did they face adversity overcome poor play or sitting the bench.

a guy like Anthony Richardson maybe sits for two years

A guy like Gabriel started a lot of games for three different programs gets the keys earlier than most.

Yeah, that's a good point.  He's played more college games than the vast majority.  He's quite experienced...but he'll still be faced with learning the NFL speed of NFL starting defensive players...like any other rookie.

    With backup tackles protecting him.

True & Detroit's pass rush was pretty merciless Monday Night.  The sad thing in ALL this was how predictable this was with the OT situation.  ON THE OTHER HAND, the 1st time Flacco saved our season just 2 years ago - both Jones & Conklin went on IR (Conklin by week 2 & Jones a few weeks or so later). I think Wills also joined them on IR or missed starts to  injury.  Flacco bailed us out before without Starting Offensive Tackles.

This matchup seems like a very bad week to be missing starting Tackles - but so was last week (and the Browns still won). Sometimes teams that win an important/emotional game on Monday Night - come out flat on Sunday (especially if they think it's gonna be easy against the edges of the Browns pass pro).

I don't know what I think the Browns should do at QB this to be totally honest.  This seems like a bad time to change the starter.  I'm just gonna bounce this off you and/or others (and there's no right or wrong answer just a gut feeling you have about it) - if you were Stefanski would you consider giving Gabriel 1 scripted series that has been practiced/rehearsed this week in maybe our 2nd or 3rd offensive possession -OR- the 1st series of the 2nd half?

I'd script it for when the game is out of reach (and at some point it will be). The Lions will be prepared. Campbell does not know the meaning of letdown. Never has been in his vocabulary or his makeup. They'll cook and eat rocks for that guy (something I got in trouble with as a dyslexic kid who argued with his dad that American Indians ate rocks) LOL! The story is that I had seen the pictures of them boiling rocks in my "Boys Life" magazine, but really could not read it was to them putting rocks from their fires into kettles of water to make it hot faster over fires. That got me a nice bump on the old noggin. Damn I wish I'd had Campbell there to defend my case.?

  • You guys going to help us out by beating Detroit this week? I hope you can.

Only if we were way ahead or way behind into the 4th qtr.

  • Ultimately, even though Gabriel is the starter at the moment, it sure seems like his starting spot is far from secure. So, in a scenario where neither rookie quarterback grabs hold of the reins and performs well before Watson returns to practice, we could see Watson get the next crack at starting in Cleveland.
