...and you can tack on Safety to that list.  It's a long list.  We have to keep chipping away at it.   QB, OT, OG, WR, CB, S

You could probably throw a LB to that list, because beyond Carson Krautbacker there aren’t really any longterm guys in the LB room now, just short term plug and play guys.

Yes, but I'm also kind of hoping that JOK comes back next year.  He issued a positive social media post not long ago.

We’ll see. I would love to see CS and JOK together.

    An underperforming OL

I think we can all be pretty confident that OT will be targeted this coming offseason...and Guard is also required.  Whether it's FA or high draft picks (or both) may be influenced by the need to draft a QB high in round 1 (or not).

issue that we aren’t talking enough about - we have a train wreck WR room.

Yup, that's gotta be next highest on the list behind QB & OL.

How do you know we need to draft a QB?

I think we have possibly have a QB who has everything it takes, except for a QL that can give him time and more reliable receivers.  Actually, we might have a receiver or two who can complement the QB if the QB has the time to allow them to get in to their routes.  As it stands our QB's need to be releasing the ball on count 2.5 or start scrambling around rather than being allowed to get to count 3.5 or 4.

That 1.5 to two seconds makes a big different to the QB and receivers.

For the record, I think Bond is one of those receivers who can help.

I feel very confident in saying that Dillon Gabriel is not the longterm answer for the Browns.

Could he have a long NFL career as a spot starter/backup like Colt McCoy? Definitely. I just can’t see any serious NFL team putting their franchise QBs eggs in Gabriel’s basket.

I don't.  (not right now anyway...gotta wait for the season to play out)

That's why I said:      may be influenced by the need to draft a QB high in round 1 (or not)

We DO know, however, that the organization has positioned themselves for the possibility of drafting one quite high, as they were convinced (along with everyone else) that next year's draft was favorable for QB's in round 1.  And that in reality they were drafting Gabriel as the probable backup QB to the '26 draft pick.  Unless he turns out to be great.   I personally don't think that they will stand pat with a 5'9" QB....but it's too early to tell.

Time out!  Let's start putting what we don't need in the draft - it's just easier:  Center, RB, TE, Punter & Place Kick Holder (same guy).

    You aren’t wrong

  • This week's film review of Gabriel was pretty damning, all that bs about "processing at a high level" was just that. Didn't make many good decisions, inaccurate on nearly every throw beyond 15 yds, so Steelers had a field day and didn't even bother covering deep routes.  I'm boldly predicting Shedeur will play against Miami, McDaniels being so desperate to keep his job will throw everything at him so he'll either get him injured or play so bad that Kevin will have no choice but to pull him out.

    • Chase Daniel's film review.
  • I honestly would love to see Shedeur Sanders in sooner than later.

I believe the expression "Be careful what you wish for" would be worn by Shedeur fans.

The entire offense is a mess, prime example Bond getting doinked on the helmet instead of catching a TD. I don't think Shedeur will look much better except his accuracy may get him out of a few more jams.

I think Shedeur has a higher ceiling than Gabriel (even though it wouldn't shock me if DG has a longer NFL career because I think Sanders has a lower floor too) but I don't get the impression he's really ready, and I hate rushing QBs too soon. Now, around Thanksgiving or so? After Sanders has been the backup for a month and half to two months? I might be more apt to give him a chance to start.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.  As for the part in bold above - that was an interesting choice of words you selected... We could probably make a drinking game out of this or just cry in our beers. In the football sense, I know what you meant...

  • As early as the trade-down, the plan was to get our QB next year so screwing around and drafting 2 QBs WITHOUT a sane plan at Offensive Tackle railroaded us to what we're seeing.  The very 1st draft pick of the new HC for the LA Chargers last year was RT Joe Alt from ND while they already had a Pro Bowl LT - Rashawn Slater.  They went 11-6 and went to the playoffs.

Whether Gabriel is the NFL version of the next Doug Flutie (minus Flutie's agility and quickness) or Brian Sipe (drafted in 1972 before taking over as fulltime starter in the mid 70s and earning NFL MVP in 80) - his job description in this hot mess is NFL Crash Dummy.  And he's the 1 QB with more approval in the sum of Cleveland Browns Owner + FO + HC + anyone else.  The other rookie QB only seemed had the owner interested in him; which already sets up the inevitable shit show.  That doesn't set up a collective group that will want to see Sanders succeed especially if their guy doesn't/didn't.

I don't care if I ever see Sanders play here; and the sad thing is I think he can be decent in an organization WAY BETTER than this one. The same can be said for the rookie QB all but the Owner favors. At 1 point - someone had a decent idea to bring Kenny Pickett here for the realistic situation heading our way in 2025.  I want to say this isn't exactly the Titanic colliding with a glacier/iceberg that the person guiding the ship never saw after midnight; but it is and it isn't. We've had friends in here that have passed away in recent years that never got to see the type of Browns they once saw or heard about due to piss poor ownerships.  Does anyone really think he'll fire either FO squid?  My guess is he'll do what he always does and fire a symptom of the FO (ie: HC Kevin Stefanski).  That will even pacify anyone/everyone that thinks he's the entire problem because I'm told what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  Paul DePodesta's unchallenged FO tenure is as strong as it gets.  For those in here thinking Stefanski is the only problem (and I'm not saying I agree with that as much as I'm saying I can no longer argue with it) - I will say he didn't hire himself.  The guy that really wanted him was DePodesta.  That means getting your way this year with only firing DePodesta's choice of HC is certain to repeat itself in a couple years so that's pretty cool for our crowd that lives to celebrate firing HCs here.  If that's really the case (and it might be) - try to look deeper THIS TIME like who's been doing the hiring and why is he allowed to continue doing so; because he's really bad at it.

Brook Park ain't gonna change this stink...

  • I think Gabriel is a great kid and a great team mate... The problem for me with Gabriel is.. He just does not drive the ball with enough authority.. By the same token... our WR's are trash.. I think Shadeur has the same issue... He doesn't gun the ball with authority... I'm becoming a big Mendoza fan.. My other candidates are Klubnik and Beck although Beck has struggled some.. My dark horse QB for the future is a kid who goes to Dayton University where my nephew plays DE... His name is Bryce Shondelmeyer.... He makes big time throws and could be a portal transfer to a bigger school.. Unfortunately he got injured this past Saturday with a loss to rival team Butler...

  • During the broadcast, the legendary quarterback actually gave Gabriel his stamp of approval:

“Dillon Gabriel, a young, left-handed rookie. I like him a lot, I think he’s gonna be a star in the league,” Bradshaw said.

.....this coming from a man that hates the Browns.  I think I'd consider immediately inserting Sanders.
