The Official Browns at Steelers Game 6 Thread

I don’t understand hoe Depo still has a job. Isn’t he listed as “ Chief strategy officer”?
His strategy is NOT WORKINGWe have the worst owner in Pro Sports

There can't possibly 1 person on this board excited about where this team is going with Andrew Berry in the driver seat and Paul DePodesta continuing to whisper sweet nothings in Jimmy ear. It's gonna be all Stefanski's fault before we know it and he'll get scapegoated while the tenures of Berry and DePodesta continue.
Oh wait, they got rid of Baker though... Yeah they got rid of Baker for Character concerns so their idea for better character was Watson? Okay, no worries they did it for what his talent did/promised football in Houston. Wonderful, I back the bullshit! So WHY did you want him? Ooops, this FO doesn't use film so they had zero idea of how Houston used him. Isn't this the real reason they were still firing and hiring Assistant Offensive Coaches 3 years into the surrender of 1st and 2nd round draft picks?
Inevitably someone will say "you just need to be more patient Flugel." I'm only months away from turning 62 so I've been a Saint with patience. Even Pittsburgh was looking at this team like "Is this all you ever want to be? Fine, take it up the dumpster!"
That's what it felt like I was watching today.
I'm sick of this team wilting like wet lettuce against the stools... This shit is beyond old... I'm exhausted...

Watched the whole game, was on tape delay and finished it even when I knew the final score (like the eye opening torture in Clockwork Orange). Didn't expect a Browns win as our greatest weakness (O-line) was matched against the Steeler's greatest strengh (D-line). I predicted the Steelers scoring 23 points and only a miracle win if Judkins went off for 200 yds and two TDs. Gabriel's throws down the field confirm why he was a 4/5th round draft grade but our brilliant FO took him in the 3rd and the coaches fell for that. Lavardain looked promising before the Steeler's dirty hit, Fannin was good but needs to hit the jugs machine. Jeudy was borderline benchable but our offense as a whole just looks disjointed. Maybe we'll be less dysfunctional than Miami coming in next week but I'm close to cancelling my Sunday Ticket subscription and calling it quits this season.

The Steelers spent their bye week fixing their run defense and essentially made us play left handed - throwing the ball with our rookie 40 plus times.
squash the rush attack sit on everything short and let our tackles implode. It is simple and effective.
-
Not a good game.
OL play was poor, as expected. 68 & 72 were not good.
Judy is dropping balls.
Gabriel could've notched 3 INT's if the Steelers could catch. I wish Gabriel well, I really do...but he's such a teeny weeny little guy out there. I like tall QB's.
As Sd said, they sold out to stop the run and banked on our poor OL to keep the passing game down.
Alex Wright had a good game. Schwesinger and Bush played well. Trey Campbell got burned for a TD. (welcome to the Browns)
Andre kicked well for us.
Garrett had 2 tackles.
After traveling the world, we come home to face the Dolphins. I'd like to say that upcoming games are against teams that we should be able to beat, but our offensive Tackle play is so bad, I just don't know how we can score points.
At least the Jags lost.

I'm dropping Jeudy off my FFL team
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

That's the crazy thing - it appears that Berry nailed the last draft.
He got a potential at least above average DTackle AND picked up a first rounder and second rounder in the process. Judkins and Krautbacker appear to be guys to build around in the second round, Fannin looks like a starter for years. Gabriel is limited, but he doesn't look overwhelmed and IMO he's going to be a good backup for years. I think in a functional offense even today he could do a respectable job if needed.
But I can't help to look at that draft and still think "How did you not draft OLine?"
And I think you are right - Stefanski is going to be the scapegoat during this season or right after the season ends. It is what it is, we've beaten the horse to death regarding his weaknesses and honestly I think it will be time to move on.
But at the end of the day, how optimistic can we be when the Haslams are still going to be in charge and with DePodesta and Berry running the show?

We need WRs... and OLinemen... and cornerbacks... and a linebacker... and probably a bigger tight end to complement Fannin because Njoku's days are probably numbered one way or another.... and of course a legit starting-caliber QB.
Piece of cake. ?

It's sad. I mean, what is he supposed to do with the offense he has? His offensive tackles are among the worst in the league. What do you call? Dives up the middle all day? Ya can't run screens because your tackles are horrid. Ya can't throw downfield because there isn't time for a receiver to GET downfield. You've gotta call short to midrange passes and tell your QB to check down soonish in order to get the ball out of there.
We've seen how good Stef is. 11 wins and a playoff birth while having to use some of the worst QB's anyone could imagine. But...no team keeps a coach when the losses pile up year after year...whether it's his fault, partially his fault, or not his fault.
I read an article during the past week where the writer was interviewing one of the 'know it all talking heads'. Well, this talking head went on to explain all of the problems on the field...the WR's, the OL, the QB...and said, " No HC is gonna win with those issues. Go ahead Cleveland. Fire Stefanski. And he'll be out of a job for one day. " - I don't think that's true if he were fired tomorrow, but I think he'd be the HC of one of the teams that will be firing their HC as time goes on through to season's end.
-
Jeudy and his drops, for every good play he makes, you're guaranteed a drop or 2 a game. Njoku, fannin didn't help with theirs as well.
I agree, had a good draft, but need to address the 0 line and receivers.
Another stud lb would be great as well.

There's a couple stud LBs down in Columbus, but I don't think the Browns will want to take one as high as Arvell Reese will get drafted. He's a beast, holy shit would him and Schwesinger be a dynamic duo.

History indicates that not many fired Browns coaches since 1999 were hired as HC’s elsewhere.
Romeo and who else?
And did he succeed? No.
You’d have to go back to Belichek and the authentic Browns.
So who the fuck cares if he’ll be out of a job for a day.

You aren't wrong in most of this, but there's other problems with Stefanski that have nothing to do with how bad his OLine is or whatnot. I question how compatible he is with today's QBs, I also wonder if his offense has seen its day. I question his ability to develop a QB. I don't hate him, I don't think he's a bad coach, but I wonder how great of a coach he could ever be either.

I understand all of that thinking too. And I can't argue against any of it. I just think of the long line of semi-idiot HC's we've had around here this century. I'm terrified of Jimmy picking another idiot. - I've got no faith in their ability to hire a good HC....which is actually more important than Berry's ability to pick a good OLineman.
