You aren't wrong in most of this, but there's other problems with Stefanski that have nothing to do with how bad his OLine is or whatnot. I question how compatible he is with today's QBs, I also wonder if his offense has seen its day. I question his ability to develop a QB. I don't hate him, I don't think he's a bad coach, but I wonder how great of a coach he could ever be either.

I understand all of that thinking too.  And I can't argue against any of it.  I just think of the long line of semi-idiot HC's we've had around here this century.  I'm terrified of Jimmy picking another idiot.  - I've got no faith in their ability to hire a good HC....which is actually more important than Berry's ability to pick a good OLineman.

I absolutely get what you are saying, which is why I replied to Flugs that at the end of the day the Haslams will still be owning this team, and most likely DePodesta (and whatever the hell it is he does here) and Berry will still be here.

And IMO good luck getting anyone worth a shit to take the head coaching job. If I recall, the Browns head coach interviews they gave Stefanski in 2019 (that went to Freddie Kitchens) and 2020 were the only two head coaching interviews Stefanski ever received. I don't see a hot shot candidate taking this job if he has any other offers.

Jeudy and his drops, for every good play he makes, you're guaranteed a drop or 2 a game. Njoku, fannin didn't help with theirs as well.

I agree, had a good draft, but need to address the 0 line and receivers.

Another stud lb would be great as well.

There's a couple stud LBs down in Columbus, but I don't think the Browns will want to take one as high as Arvell Reese will get drafted. He's a beast, holy shit would him and Schwesinger be a dynamic duo.

Yeah There is no way we draft Reese I just hope her doesn’t go to Pittsburgh or Baltimore.  He’s the kind of player they draft and we don’t need to see him 20 plus times during his career.

Oh goddamn it you are absolutely right, and now I'm convinced he'll go to one of them ?

  • Gabriel is the 41st QB to start for the Browns since 1999.

That sounds like a staggering number (and I'm sure it is) but I'd be curious what every other team's number is.

    PIT: 17

    BAL: 19

    CIN: 14

The numbers from our division, since they are fairly close to each other, shows what normalcy looks like from a statistical perspective. Yes, we can search the whole NFL, and there will probably be anomalies, but the average will probably be close to PIT's 17.

  • Gabriel looks promising. If Fannin hangs on to a catchable 3rd down, the game may have ended differently. Also a dumb Jeudy penalty early did not help the situation. It will be nice to get Tillman back..

This team has to be perfect to win games.

I wasn't impressed with Gabriel.  He's not an NFL starting quality QB and he doesn't look like an AFC North QB either.

The Steelers suck. This is the worst Steelers team in 57 years.  Steelers never won a playoff game before Dan Rooney and they haven't won a playoff game after Dan Rooney.

Every week, this shitty Steelers team comes out and gets an unimpressive win while the rest of the division loses.

There can't possibly 1 person on this board excited about where this team is going with Andrew Berry in the driver seat and Paul DePodesta continuing to whisper sweet nothings in Jimmy's ear. It's gonna be all Stefanski's fault before we know it and he'll get scapegoated while the tenures of Berry and DePodesta continue.

That's the crazy thing - it appears that Berry nailed the last draft.

He got a potential at least above average DTackle AND picked up a first rounder and second rounder in the process. Judkins and Krautbacker appear to be guys to build around in the second round, Fannin looks like a starter for years. Gabriel is limited, but he doesn't look overwhelmed and IMO he's going to be a good backup for years. I think in a functional offense even today he could do a respectable job if needed.

But I can't help to look at that draft and still think "How did you not draft OLine?"

And I think you are right - Stefanski is going to be the scapegoat during this season or right after the season ends. It is what it is, we've beaten the horse to death regarding his weaknesses and honestly I think it will be time to move on.

But at the end of the day, how optimistic can we be when the Haslams are still going to be in charge and with DePodesta and Berry running the show?

Thanks!  Good points Dutch. We had some very good picks in this draft and it gave us a nice nucleus of guys for sure. I'll piggy back onto some of it and share what's unsettling to me.

This FO didn't get to a "save my ass in this draft" mentality by accident.  Did we really need to draft TWO QBs with Pickett and Flacco already here AFTER we traded down and added a 1st round pick for next year?  If there wasn't a QB worthy of a #2 overall in the entire draft class perceived as weak - why draft 2 QBs?  I don't think anyone posted our need at OT more than me in here pre-draft but we did have quite a few guys that mentioned OT as a need.  Shouldn't we be very concerned once we factor in Dawand Jones is 3 for 3 at ending seasons early on IR while Rosenhaus' client (Conklin) at RT isn't very durable or reliable.  Not to mess with convenience - Bitonio needed some urging not to retire last off season that'll soon be a need (that once had the reliability of Multi-Pro Bowl performer). But wait, we need a WR (at least 1), a Corner, 2 OTs, a STARTING caliber QB, a Safety, LB or the next JOK (if the current one can't answer the bell again). As we can tell, the AFC North ain't about to feel sorry for the Browns nor should they.

And Dylan Sampson that I thought would be a steal in a mid round - isn't even averaging 2 yards per carry so was a 2nd RB this draft necessary?  As much as I remember the Browns made a lot of good picks this year -  let's NEVER forget there was NO first round draft pick here in 2022, 2023 and 2024 as well as no 2nd round pick in 2022 and 2023.  Believe it or not, the stats below (not inclusive of the Pitt game yesterday) don't belong to Pierre Strong or Jerome Ford - they are Dylan Sampson's and he's almost averaging 2 yards per carry. While the OL explains some of it - Judkins has been a beast in spite of it. I think he even had a 55 yard TD run against Minnesota called back.

If I was in my 20s, 30s, 40s, maybe even 50s - I might be a little more patient.  I was in my early 20s back with Kosar, Mack and Byner and look how fast it's already 2025...

How many years did Rapistberger play?

Now the Stoolers are scraping around the league looking for a QB.

Let’s see, they had Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and now Aaron Rodgers.

That’s three in the last 2 years.

See how that works when you don’t find a franchise QB via the draft?

If you’re a fan of the Stoolers, don’t worry the AFC North is yours for the taking.

The Ravens, and Bengals don’t have their starting QB playing.

The Browns have two rookie quarterbacks on the roster.

The bad news is, the Stoolers will be a one and done once the playoffs come around.

  • I hate to jump on the blame train but out Oline play is truly awful. KT Leveston may truly be the worst OT l’ve ever seen play the position in a Browns uniform.

Can we just do away with the OT position altogether? Revolutionize the game of football with 3 Olinemen and like 5 TEs and/or Fullbacks to fill in? Opposing defenses won’t even know what’s going on for the first quarter or so. Hell, l won’t even know what’s going on and it’s my bright idea, but at least it might be watchable.

Not drafting any O-lineman falls on the FO, but the hillbilly owner doesn’t know that.

They could've drafted one in the 3rd round instead of overdrafting a career back up.

The fact that Dawand Jones can’t stay healthy and that Zak Zinter apparently is the OLine equivalent of Anthony Schwartz isn’t helping

  • Joel's aware...but it really doesn't help that we have to keep shuffling new Tackles into the lineup because the previous 'fill-ins' stink.  There's bound to be preseason type mistakes in games.

After the game, veteran offensive lineman Joel Bitonio didn’t hold back when talking about this team and what they need to improve on moving forward.

“We can’t go three-and-out. We can’t have those negative plays. There’s 10-15 a game that are either someone unblocked or a penalty and that just kills your offense,” Bitonio said.

The missed assignments by the OL, or just straight up losing the rep, have been pretty bad all year.  This is most noticeable at the tackle spots.

    1. We aren’t competitive enough to win the division. So while the statement in most seasons is true it doesn’t apply this year.

    3. he’s just mad because he thinks this will keep the Bengals afloat and make the division  lead closer than it needs to be…I disagree.
