Dude was a multi year pro bowler.  Including having one of his best seasons the year after he had that nasty injury and Brady took over.

"Mid"...  isn't quite the word that should be used.

Pro Bowler? ?? Derek fucking Anderson was a pro bowler!

Bledsoe hung up his cleats in 2007, and let me ask you…how many times has he had a HOF nomination?

    I’ll wait.

    Not a 4x pro bowler

So either you're medicore or a Hall of Fame player?

That is.... an awfully silly standard. But ok.

The bar for mid is not being HoF player?

While I do not put a lot of stock in pro bowl nominations, comparing DA one for him in a down year for QBs, to 4x pro bowls, 1 year leading thr league in passing, and 2x all pro is simply nonsense.

  • @canton-dawg said:

I’m positive BB had regrets not starting Brady sooner.

Bledsoe is mid at best, and would make a decent 2nd stringer.

I doubt it.  Brady was barely ready when he got called in to action. At that point in time,  and for a few later Bledsoe was the better QB.  That of course changed over thr course of Bradys career

Then we come full circle on my original claim, BB was a defensive guy and wasn’t really that good at evaluating QB’s.

Let’s see he hit a home run with Brady, but he also drafted Matt Cassel, Ryan Mallet, Jacoby Brissett, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Jimmy Garopollo, Zac Robinson, Rohan Davy and several more I’m forgetting.

Its not a startling revelation on my part, I saw some sports writers on ESPN talk about BB’s inability to draft a QB a couple of years ago.

I just find it odd that you of all people would use the popularity contest of being named a pro bowler.

Hell, Baker Mayfield was a pro bowler last year.

I guess you and I have different criteria for a “good QB”.

Baker has turned into a good QB.  You're right, once is an occurrence and QBs can have that flash in the pan. But doing somethint 3, 4, 5 times tends to mean a lot more.

BB may not have been good at evaluating QBs, but he was good at educating and coaching them.

He turned Matt Cassel into a 1st round draft pick return for the Pats.

Jacoby Brissett was a mid rounder and is still starting in the NFL. Over a 1st overall pick, no less.

Jimmy Garopolla was a 2nd rounder who went on to be a multi year starter and was pretty solid when he was healthy.

With the exception of Mac Jones, the rest were late round picks not intended to be long term starters.

If anything, BBs history of helping QBs grow as passers is pretty solid.  Jones being the lone blemish.

And just because a QB is in the HOF doesn’t necessarily mean they were great.

Guys like Namath, Bradshaw, and Warren Moon come to mind.

I would say that was more of the work of Charlie Weiss and Josh McDaniels than it was Bill..

  • So there

  • Not really that impressive but I guess this goes out to all the teams who did not lose to the worst team in the league today. Then again Ryan Day called up Kevin's defanski for some advice on 4th and 1. Now Jimmy Haslam can f****** the quarterback selection one more time.

I was actually feeling sorry for you nick.

I've often wondered how Belichick's career would have gone down if the Patriots had not drafted Tom Brady in the 6th round and hit the lottery.

Most HOF coaches have had very good to great QBs, but man, you've got to wonder.

  • So, am I supposed to come to this thread and be happy because Mayfield lost to the Saints with a 55.1 QB rating?

Well, I AM HAPPY.  I'm happy that the Saints won and that we move ahead of them in the draft.  That's what I'm happy about.

Remember back in the day when NE was winning the Super Bowl almost every year?

Then there was the debate between who gets the credit for the dynasty, Bill or Tom?

Well we found out when Brady went to TB and BB was fielding a sub .500 team.

If BB didn’t have Tom Brady I think his tenure as a HC would’ve been much shorter.

Good players make a mediocre or bad HC look good.

Barry Switzer took Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys to the Super Bowl and won.

George Seifert took Bill Walsh’s 49ers to the Super Bowl and won.

BTW, Bill Belichik’s  inaugural year as HC at UNC got him a 4-8 season.

Well keep in mind that Jimmy Haslam with more ed or higher draft picks in his grubby little fingers is the very least a double-edged sword.

Yeah.  He likes his team/himself in the spotlight.  And he sees the draft as a way to manufacture the spotlight.  I think though, once you get past the need for a QB the spotlight loses a lot of intensity, thus allowing the football people to pick who they think is the best choice (which has also been a double edged sword, save this past draft).

  • Peek-A-Boo!!!!!  Are our Baker Mayfield romantics all out of love already? Sheesh... I can at least update you with how the Bucs are doing most recently.

    image.png.1b1c16e4273617a44ebe2840ec7fc374.png

  • Buccaneers have devolved to Jake Paul levels of suck.

Paul's "strategy" when fighting a professional boxer [Anthony Joshua] was the same as what I'd have -- run around and dodge, then clench, then pray.  Paul doesn't have cruiserweight power, let alone heavyweight power, so the actual ex - heavyweight champ took Paul's one serious punch like it was nothing.. because it was.  Professional athletes don't receive praise consisting of "Gee golly gosh, you tried really hard."  Note of course that Joshua's even basic footwork was terrible [cut off don't chase], and if Joshua was on the game he had when he was the champ this thing would have been over within 2 rounds.  Was Joshua lazy the first 2-3 rounds?

The hubris on Paul to think that he wouldn't have to hone the craft of punching in years of amateur bouts -- if you don't have a serious chance to win, you shouldn't sell tickets.

I find it personally reprehensible to see people whose politics are "No participation trophies" lining up to pay Paul for his professional participation trophy.  Gotta stop acting like Jake Paul is some make-a-wish kid.

  • The Bucs have really struggled a few games.

Was watching the packers play the stinking bears some days ago.

The bears deliberately cheapshotted the packers' qb, Love, and were happy with the penalty. But he stayed in the game. A bit later, they cheapshotted him again, helmet to helment, knocked him senseless and he left the game for good. Sure, another penalty, but a loss for the packers.

Before that, the packers absolutely cheapshotted a bears wr.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nfl/article-15403067/chicago-bears-dj-moore-hit-packers.html

The NFL seems to be losing control of the game.

LOve was also cheapshotted by denver.

3 days agoThe NFL fined a Denver Broncos players for taking a cheap shot at Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

The chargers cheapshotted a cowboys player
3 days agoCowboys receiver Ryan Flournoy suffered an injury on Sunday against the Chargers, and did not return to the game.

Now, vs carolina, they went after Baker. Along with the constant flagrant holding by olinemen trying to block Garrett with NO CALL, have to wonder what the heck.....

Just seems like it's getting worse. I don't hate any team enough to want them to get a possible career ending illegal hit. Sometimes, it seems like the nfl hired some pro wraslin "refs" to fill the ranks.
