If they hire another no name coordinator guy then, yes, it’s a mistake

The problem is keeping Berry and the dumb hierarchy they have. With the front office setup they have, they will never attract a Big Time coach. They are stuck with young, inexperienced yes men.
No experienced head coach wants to be around the structure that the Browns have.

  • The last draft surely saved Berry, otherwise he'd be out too.

As far as whether or not firing stefanski was the right move who knows, if it was me in charge I would have kept him. Not very excited about any of the candidates that have been tossed around so far.

Promoting schwartz and keeping rees would be comical, I wouldn't be surprised if schwartz himself gets some external HC interviews this year though.

Agreed. Aside from Klint Kubiak, not too keen on the HC candidates.

  • It is what it is.  No real complaints except we kept the weasel.  Berry is a weasel.

When he backed out of the bye week PC as has been held, he pushed everything over to Kevin and hid like a weasel.

Hell, he even looks like a weasel with his beady eyes.  In the old days, a farmer would just trap him to protect his chicken coop, then club and skin him.

So now we get Shedufus and Berry.  What a wonderful team.

You mean when he chose not to do the press conference he is not required to do and no other GM in the NFL does....

Yes, another episode of fire the scapegoat in Cleveland is upon us. Please stay tuned for our rinse and repeat in 3-4 years or less.  Other than that - things are perfect!

Jimmy had a choice - get rid of the disease killing his team or just 1 uncomfortable symptom.   He chose the symptom again.  The experience of this hasn't lied to us yet.

Question:  What happens if this team can't win more than 5 games again next year does Jimmy Fire the Coach again?  Or, fire the GM & hire a new GM without knowing if he'll be compatible with the coach?

We're losing in the FO and it feels like the only person a million miles away from getting this is Jimmy Haslam...

Okay Jimmy - this one's for you from the Plimsouls...

  • There have been trades for head coaches, maybe not very often. But who would trade for steflunkski?

He had to go. I can see Schwartz being the Browns HC for years if he gets promoted. Rees has quite a football history behind him =

a qb for Notre Dame, etc etc. I believe he could be kept as OC.

The Browns can draft another rookie qb in the 3rd/4rd round that would have a far better rookie year with the same teammates, I think.

Why? His first year is over, and he still has the same limitations as he did in college. I believe he is more a backup qb in the NFL.

    Because:

    https://www.nfl.com/prospects/shedeur-sanders/32005341-4e47-8221-56fd-8e3864421298

    Weaknesses

    • Spacing and clearly defined route combinations make decision-making easier.
    • Drops beyond proper pocket depth and into edge rusher’s path.
    • Throws with a longer operation time.
    • Has completions on tape that will be interceptions in the pros.
    • Inconsistent bringing his lower half through his delivery.
    • Needs to become OK with taking profits and moving on.
    • Appears too confident in his off-platform game despite a lack of zip.
    • Doesn’t offer up much escapability quickness from the pocket.
    • Much too willing to take a big sack instead of throwing it away.

I think the question now is, will Stef get a HC job before we hire one?

Essentially, firing only Stef is making him out to be 'the problem'.  But in reality, if Berry didn't have a good draft, he'd be packing up his office right now too.  And what is a 'good draft' in relation to the W/L record?  I mean, you left your HC with no receivers and a wicked bad OL, and rookie mid-round QB's.  Nobody in their right mind would be thinking that a team in that situation would win a lot of games.  So, when the team limps home with 5 wins, the 2 time coach of the year gets fired.  And not the guy that set him up for failure.

I guarantee that HC candidate's agents will be telling their client, 'It's an unstable situation in Cleveland.  The GM saved his job by having a good draft class.  But his job might not be too safe.  Proceed with caution.'

  • What I keep hearing all day is how Stef is the best HC candidate out there and Cleve is the worst job 🙁

  • @mddawg said:

AB is not on borrowed time, the owner doesn't name him as head of the coaching search if that was the case. No incoming coach would take a job if they didn't think Berry was here to stay, they have their own sources to verify that. Jimmah would've canned Berry and started from scratch otherwise.

Berry has been an abject failure, like 1-31 level saschi brown level, until this draft offseason trade deadline.

Depodesta , Stefanski, can’t be blamed anymore… all we browns/clowns fans can do is watch and see what happens.

Thanks AP!  It's just BERRY BERRY sad.  One year DT/IDL isn't important and were watching the Atlanta Falcons Junior Varsity RB running a 10k with the football down our esophagus.  NOW, everybody wants to RACE their evaluations of Shedeur Sanders when there isn't a legit starting OTackle on this team protecting the edges coupled with Jerry Jeudy is our #1 WR.  We have Tractor Trailer from Ohio State parked in Berry's plans at LT since Berry thinks he could be good as new after his 3rd straight IR shortened season capped off with surgery.  Of course Berry KNOWS more about winning than the football program at Ohio State ever has; because they didn't feel overweight feller that can't bend or move very well was the answer to all their prayers at LEFT TACKLE.  What would the defending National Champions possibly know about winning that this pathetic FO hasn't already mastered right?

Does anyone know how many football games the Chicago Bears won last year when Caleb Williams was a rookie? 5.  Despite 1 of the Worst WR Corps here (ie: Jerry Jeudy is the #1) and atrocious pass pro from the edges of our OLine - The Browns won 3 of the last 7 games and lost 23-20 to the Buffalo Bills.  So?  What do I see from some of our fans with their evaluations a rookie QB very thoroughly while drinking beer the final 8-9 weeks of the season?  Have you seen Sanders' OBR or completion %?  They're no different than all of the Dallas Cowboy fans that were certain Steve Walsh was their franchise QB when rookie QB (and future HOF QB) Troy Aikman was their version of a bum and a horrible draft pick.  My how different QB evaluations became when he had 2 very good OTs protecting the edges as well as a terrific interior OLine.  They ended up winning 3 Super Bowl Championships with the QB much of their fanbase was in a hurry to bury during his rookie year.  We have NO IDEA what we have in Shedeur until unreasonable surroundings are upgraded with far more talent (ie; adding 2 WRs that can get open and catch the ball & 2 OTackles we can count on to show up in shape and work at their craft like professionals). Let's freakin start there before regurgitating more Bleacher Reports written by teenagers.  I'm more worried about the choices of the Owner & FO - because we haven't exactly seen upgrades to every scapegoat fired here.  I'm okay that Stefanski gone stale thanks to Berry made it time for his departure.  If the next HC has a horrible first year - THEN Jimmy would fire the GM? Gee, what could go wrong?

I WISH the only problem was Stefanski because correcting only 1 problem sure seems a lot easier than Andrew Berry pegging OL or WRs right in the draft for the very 1st time.

It is possible to compartmentalize evaluations and correctly grade performances both as a unit, and individually within the same play.  You know this.

The odds are against Shedeur, but not because of the roster around him per'se.   He was a day 3 pick that needs ALOT of work.

You're not old enough to remember Troy Aikman's rookie year so I'm not buying it. Not at this point sorry.   As a Unit?  With what Center Pocic or Wypler or Zinter?  With what Tackles protecting the edges?  With what WRs getting open immediately enough to compensate for OTs whiffing on the edge??  Sorry, I'm not playing pretend here.  YES, you have overhead films of him not seeing an open guy here or there which is common among rookie QBs. Evaluating him as a rookie is no different than evaluating Troy Aikman as a rookie. Many circumstances are better than this one and you know that.  It says nothing about what he's capable of when OTackles can pass pro on the edges.  It says nothing about when a WR can get open immediately.

As for this 5th round pick you can stick to your theory.  I bought 2 draft draft magazines that had him projected as a 1st round QB.  In addition BOTH Kiper and McShay had him in round 1 for quite awhile; and they're paid pretty freakin good for the time they study prospects.  He didn't drop to round 5 because he woke up 1 morning simply not talented enough.  His dad completely sabotaged where/when he got drafted.  One of the better talk shows had Deion's quote made for all to hear during the week of the Super Bowl about that types of teams he wanted his son to avoid.  The problem with that?  All of those were the ones needing a QB early on - one of them was the Browns so they drafted a 5'9" QB pretending he's 6' in round 3 before trading away the rest of their draft to take Sanders in round 5.  Talent was never the reason Sanders dropped to round 5 from where many were originally pegging him.  I don't need you to break out the film to show me this rookie QB not seeing an open target here or there.

Just for shits and Googles - here's what I queried up today? image.png.a70dcf91783905e4e17fa27dfb3c3466.png

How accurate was the coachability or difficult to manage nervousness?

We're past the point of no return. It's done so they better make the best of the situation. If the step stool QB was the answer to all our prayers - we wouldn't have kept reading that Sanders will start the rest of the season.  My worry given the Browns needed to draft 2 rookie QBs just 2 rounds apart while deciding they also needed both veteran QBs Pickett and Flacco here tells me there's serious dysfunction of the Browns FO coupled with a complete lack of confidence in itself. Yet, Happy Tenure Andrew Berry!!!

Like every time the HC gets scapegoated in this never ending sequel - I REALLY wish the only problem here was Stefanski.  Unfortunately, which one of the countless scapegoats hired himself?   Who's gonna do the hiring this time to make this time different than all of the other ones leading us right here?

Evaluating him as a rookie is no different than evaluating Troy Aikman as a rookie. Many circumstances are better than this one and you know that.  It says nothing about what he's capable of when OTackles can pass pro on the edges.  It says nothing about when a WR can get open immediately.

First and foremost, Aikman might be the most overrated HOF QB of all time. I'll just leave that crumb, but alas. Fun Fact- did you know that Aikman's highest year of TD passes was 23? That would have him tied for 14th in today's NFL with the likes of Jacoby Brissett. What most argue was his 'best year' the man threw 13 TD passes.

Most importantly, as I've argued previously, comparing a rookie year of someone 36 years ago just isn't valid. I'm not arguing Aikman wasn't a good QB, but was a QB who played in an entirely different era of the sport. I can't find it for the life of me, but it's something crazy that shotgun was used less than 10% of snaps, where it's over 80% today. We could crack open a beer and argue what that means, but it's a fool's game to compare.

Further, today we have advanced abilities to see severe flaws in player's game (please review the data I shared above). As I've mentioned, I'm not a Sanders hater and I wanted nothing more than him to show enough to be the guy. I, however, don't see that at all and data backs that up.

  • At the end of the day we are all going to get what we are asking for….we are drafting 6th so out of Mendoza and Moore range (btw Moore is not a slam dunk to even leave).  And three QB starving teams angead of us.  And I’m not sure if we drafted Moore he’s ready week 1.  The guy will be drafted in April (if he enters) at 20 years old.

So that leaves the Browns in situation to bolster the support cast and throw Shedeur and Watson (yes Watson) under center with better protection and a few more weapons.

And we are back here again on January 6, 2027 with a new GM and more information on Shedeur.

Time for us all to grab some patience.  I’d prefer to rip the bandaid off completely that would have been getting rid of Berry.

Yeah, TD's are a pretty stat....but really, it's just a pass play where the goal line got crossed at some point.  To me, more important would be completion percentage, INT's and INT percentage.  This is why I liked Sanders around this time last year.
