Yeah, but this year you get to be Gene Kelly a.k.a. An American in Paris.?

To make the first game in the country that matchup certainly is something. Good thing the French are notoriously known for their generosity to outsiders, /s

To the part in bold, I would love to agree with your question.  Unfortunately, the reality that there's 31 better business owners than the one we count on - my guess is Jimmy wanted a "Yes sir" to immediately deflecting any and all questions about Schwartz and especially not guaranteeing any soon to be meetings between Schwartz and Owner & FO. There's a reason there's still a dumpster fire burning because of this owner....

Oh yes, 100%- It's very, very obvious that Jimmy just can't stay out of the "room where it happens" to quote Hamilton. It's absolutely the reason we're in the Watson mess and this coaching search transpired the way it did. I also pretty strongly believe it's why Sanders is on this team, amongst many other bad decisions.

It's honestly wild how the Browns were a solid playoff team just 4 years ago- so much ruined by an owner who can't help himself.

I don't think Monken insulted him at all. These talking heads kill me with their takes at times.

I want to see Schwartz back here as well. Schwartz needs to come to a decision quickly. I'm assuming the ball is in his court.

there is the eagles job, maybe, depends on if their dc retires, and now i am hearing the raiders, we will find out about that next week

I believe Vic Fangio is returning to Philly. If the Raiders are interested, that would be the only other spot for him to go.

@orion brings up a very good viewpoint though. Like, as much as we love what Schwartz has done here, do we want to potentially cause drama in the locker room? Plus, would Schwartz be the type to maybe start talking to players and other staff about how he would be doing better if Monken falters out of the gate?

  • The damage has been done... He either retires , is traded.. Or he sits out the year.. Either way... I don't see him coming in any way or capacity

I think that Dutch was probably the first to actually state the concern of a divide in loyalty being the possible outcome.

I think back to when Schwartz was brought in, and how the media felt that, as a bonus, he would be the heir apparent in case a HC change was required.  No doubt he was aware of that media sentiment.  And then the time comes, and he's brought his unit to the upper echelon of the league...and he's skipped over for a guy even older than he is.

I believe that Haslam probably liked Schwartz.....but he and his gang decided that they wanted a HC from the offensive side of the ball.  And obviously Schwartz finds that offensive.

  • Reports, not MKC style we got the best we know exactly what we’re doing, were that dl coach, lb coach, cb coach attended Monken presser….

DC and safety coach did not. Time will tell

Where the damage lingers will be with Agents power steering their clients away from the never-ending dumpster fire Haslam feeds and perpetuates in Cleveland. Can we blame them?  IMO, the ONLY veteran FAs that will be interested in this gig will be ones that plan on being like Jack Conklin (his agent?  Drew Mudd-Rosenhaus lecturing we will make sure you don't risk your future in this league playing too many meaningless games in Cleveland. I make a living inventing soft tissue injuries for my clients).  The Hollow Chest - Clowney missed games with paper cuts +/or sniffles.

The only other veterans interested in this gig are the types like Cam Robinson or another 32 year old journeyman like Cornelius Lucas.  These are guys looking for places to park their careers permanently where there's no competition for good parking spots.  Something tells me there has to be younger guys looking to prove themselves that would do it for Monopoly $.  Look on the bright side - Haslam hasn't tried to pay anyone with counterfeit money just yet.

The ONLY thing that can change the toxicity stuff above is a 2nd good draft since Berry arrived with a small nucleus of veterans remaining that were here before Berry like Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward and possibly Bitonio and/or Teller for 1 more year.  Looks like we're losing David Njoku (although he missed a lot of games last year to injury) and we know what happened to Nick Chubb's career (Judkins looked great until his season ended with an injury). I never thought I'd say this but I'm gonna miss Njoku's blocking that might be needed next to a rookie OT. While Fannin is a very talented receiver - he offered little to none as a blocking TE (but Njoku was like that at first fwiw).

I can tell you this much man. As a 36 year old guy with a family, this was the first year I truly didn't care about being available to watch games, or otherwise watching games in less than ideal ways (on my phone at the park, following ESPN, etc). My old man gets the Sunday Ticket as a veteran for cheap ($75 for the season to split) so I keep that in full honesty for the fantasy football/ betting enjoyment I do during the season. If that goes up significantly, it's being dropped 100%

There's just no reason to care significantly- I'll always enjoy talking with fellow fans to your point, and I will always be a fan of the team. But it's just pure, straight apathy at this point. The only time I'll even consider going to a game is if they play in miami, and even then it's more so to spend time with my family and my in-laws who are dolphins fans.

I normally enjoy the trio and watching them argue sports topics that interest me. I usually favor Canty's view so today caught me completely off guard.

Today, I watched some really disappointing and irresponsible sports journalism from Chris Canty taken from Mary Kay's question to Monken.  I watched the presser twice. In the brief period Monken spoke, he mentioned he had to prepare for Jim Schwartz' defense twice a year and that he respects Jim Schwartz.  The length of the presser where he spoke and answered questions was only about 13 minutes, if that.  Anyway, Monken also made it a point in another part of the presser when asked about Schwartz to say it wouldn't be fair to talk about Schwartz while adding he respects him.

Canty went on to say that Monken trying to show up a Coach that has already earned the players' respect was a horrible move as a brand new HC. The ONLY horrible move I saw was Canty taking things out of context in his Cliffs Notes caliber research.  The only thing Canty proved is he was in a hurry with his research so much so that he would've seen the respect that his limited effort wasn't able to include.

If Chris Canty was going to call out Todd Monken for insulting Jim Schwartz - he should have at least watched and listened to the entire presser instead of only reading/listening to the 15 seconds of it he made his entire outspoken conclusion about.  There were 2 different occasions when Schwartz was brought up and neither showed any disrespect from Monken toward Schwartz.  In fact, wanting to KEEP the same Defense the players are cozy and familiar with is compliment to the work Schwartz did here whether he intended it to be or not.

From a fan that wanted Schwartz to get the PROMOTION to HC rather than seeing him insulted via Haslam & Berry requiring him to win an essay contest and do homework before a 2nd interview - If I felt Monken insulted Schwartz there is a 0% chance I would have remained church mouse quiet about it.  While I don't blame Schwartz for feeling insulted by the Owner & GM - I really wish he would remember he never wanted to be HC here in lieu of his comfort zone that he could continue to perfect if he agreed to stay on as the DC.  Back when Marty Schottenheimer wanted to keep Lindy Infante's Offense here when Infante departed for GB - the guy that took over the OC duty with that offense didn't have the background or understanding of how to utilize it all nearly as well.  It never ran nearly as efficiently again.  Sooo, I'd love to see Schwartz return as the DC & Assistant HC.  They freakin gave Bubba Ventrone the titles of ST Coordinator & Assistant HC just to put it in perspective...

I thing I have never heard mentioned and there has to some kind of source, is what  Schwartz's plan for the other side of the ball was ? I mean its not like he was going to call plays or put a gameplan together, did he have a certain OC in mind ?

The 1st time Vrable was a HC - the Titans Offensive side of the ball got him fired.  THIS time -  he hired the perfect OC for his team and young QB.

  • Berry did mention that anyone that associated him with Scheelhaase was an undercover racist, but aside from that point, is Cory Undlin a serious contender?

Monken has been coaching long enough to know someone that knows someone else that's gotta guy who has a guy.  When the Jets returned a kickoff and a punt for a TD that would have guaranteed me we the next STs Coordinator would be a huge upgrade (even if by accident) if this wasn't the Browns...

If Berry & Haslam don't pull rank on Monken he can probably find himself a good ST Coordinator.  FWIW, John Harbaugh was a ST Coordinator in Philly before he was Head Cheese in Ratville.  Since he was hired as a HC for the Giants in the other Conference - he may be a good resource for Todd in terms of good candidates if he doesn't already have his own network.

Just a guess - but I think he has a HC that wants to have input on all 3 phases.  For example, he has a running game Coordinator & also has a passing game Coordinator and yet - he's (McVay's) the one wiring in the play to the huddle (which I'm guessing includes his final say or veto to HIS play quite often).

I'm sure the HC will be as micro-managing with STs... Just seems like that kind of guy; and he does it in a way those working for him are happy to be where they are.  Under better leadership above - it's possible he's everything we thought he could be here.  Not only that, the bottom of the active roster there (where Special Teamer's are) is pretty talented compared to the one here.

Vrabel's refusal to be a yesman to a meddling owner who knew nothing got him fired.  And Pats adjustments all season weren't exactly great, you're not wrong about the O but that wasn't primary.

Pretty sure he wouldnt even pick up the phone if Cleveland called..
