    Yes.....those are intriguing aren't they...

I knew he played well when he played but had no idea he played THAT well.

The highlights were fun to watch.  He reminds me of Shedeur actually.  Shorter, quicker & faster.  It seems all QB's hold the ball out like a pinata too often while maneuvering about.

He's the same size as Baker, and way more athletic.

I wonder what the difference is in your eyes.

    Hmm.

None.. Baker is considered pint sized too as is Dillon Gabriel.. so was Tyrod Taylor... See a trend here?.. I want someone who can see over the goddamn line and make the reads down field without running all over the goddamn place. I don't want Tua or Kylar Murray either.... Take your race baiting elsewhere... Any other stupid questions you have to ask Jr?

For the record as I have stated many times.. I was a Warren Moon and Steve McNair fan.. Until Moon started smacking his ol'lady around.

Sam Darnold had just as many/more people counting him out; and how did that turn out for all those with the early conclusions?

I hear Monken really likes Lamar Jackson and that Baltimore is tired of his bullshit, you know just saying

Agree. I think he's on borrowed time, the injuries are accumulating.

Regarding Malik Willis, he really improved from his days in Tennessee, but the Browns can't pay top dollar here. Shedeur is on a rookie deal, let's see what he can do under Monken and hopefully a better offensive line.

  • Zac Jackson of the Athletic was the first guy l recall reporting on this. He wrote a story on Feb. 20 about Malik Willis.

It seems like a longshot for the Browns, but hopefully they got something up their sleeve for QB. I don’t like the idea of too many eggs in Sanders’ basket.

They probably would have to pay him about $30 mill a year. That seems to be the speculation. That’s definitely more than Shadeur makes, but nowhere near what the top QBs make.

Carson Beck, Ty Simpson Hype Browns as Potential 2026 NFL Draft Landing Spot Amid Ties to Monken

If the Cleveland Browns hired a head coach hoping to raise their profile with some of the incoming quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL draft, Todd Monken may have been a perfect addition for them.

Monken has connections to both Alabama's Ty Simpson and Miami's Carson Beck, prompting both quarterbacks to hype up the Browns as they were making the rounds at the NFL scouting combine on Friday.

Simpson told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that his father, Jason, who played at Southern Mississippi from 1993 to '94 and where Monken was head football coach from 2013 to '15, would be "excited" if he landed in Cleveland.

Beck explained he would be "super stoked" for the opportunity to play in the NFL under Monken, who was his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia from 2020 to '22.

Beck added that he had a formal interview with the Browns at the combine. He also said that he will take part in throwing drills with the quarterbacks on Saturday.

The Browns continue to find themselves in desperate need of help at quarterback despite all of the resources they have invested in the position in recent years.

Going back to March 2022, the list of quarterback moves for the Browns includes trading three first-round draft picks for Deshaun Watson and giving him a fully-guaranteed $230 million contract, signing Jacoby Brissett and Joe Flacco, drafting Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Ten different quarterbacks have started at least one game for the Browns over the past four seasons.

There isn't an obvious franchise quarterback who figures to be available when the Browns make their first pick at No. 6 overall, but they have another first-rounder at No. 24 stemming from their trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

B/R's NFL scouting department has Simpson ranked as the No. 28 overall prospect in this year's class, so he could be a fit for the Browns late in the first round if they like his pre-draft workouts.

Beck is the 97th overall prospect on B/R's big board, so the Browns could wait on him if they think he could become a quality NFL player.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry has said they won't put "any restraints" on potentially taking a quarterback in this draft if there is a player they like.

Monken helped build the offense for the Baltimore Ravens that led Lamar Jackson to winning his second MVP award in 2023 and finishing second in 2024. He won't have anyone in Cleveland nearly as talented as Jackson, at least not right away, but his ability to coach up an offense at least opens up a lot of possibilities for the Browns.

  • New HC's with a high draft pick typically want to draft 'their' new QB.  I view Monken as a guy that operates in today's reality but is also Old School.  He knows that he's got Watson, Sanders & Gabriel in house already.  He knows his receivers and OL will require FA & Draft assets.  So where is this new QB coming from?   He doesn't need any more projects...unless Berry is willing to part with the midget they drafted last year.

If they're going to bring in the Packer guy, then you're bringing him in as 'the answer'...and not another project.  That would change the dynamic of the QB room.

I say that we're under water in the QB room for another year.  We can't get the #1 draft pick.  So play the year out Watson and his contract, Sanders, and Gabriel (or Gabriel's replacement).  If the QB's need 'new', you can do it next year.    But that's just me!

I think that probably is what is going to happen, but if it comes down to money we all know Haslam will do whatever is needed if he really wants a player.

Like I've said before, this is going to be a fascinating off-season.

It's already been quite fascinating.  And now we're at the combine and Carson Beck has already met with the Browns.  Remember a couple of years ago when Beck was a hot topic?  And then as the college season went on his stock fell and it was felt that he should return to school for another season.  Turned out his stock didn't rise.  He'd be a project.

  • I would not mind if we took him after meeting needs elsewhere first.

    1 final thought from me:

FWIW, Beck led Miami to the National Championship Game after scoring the game winning TD against Ole Miss.  I will admit - I didn't think he was capable of this due his bipolar/hot and cold streaks; but I'll at least give him credit for the will to persevere and accomplishing it to a certain extent. I DO NOT want us using our 1st or 2nd round picks on him though and not even our 3rd given our OL situation.  IMO, he's a 4th round pick We could just trade our step stool QB (but he's a GREAT kid though) for the Rams' step stool QB Stetson Bennett (since he should already be familiar with Monken's offense and winning back to back Nattys in it).
